Tri to Beat Cancer Big Success The 7th annual Tri to Beat Cancer raised over $85,000 and registered 660 people making it one of the three largest & most competitive triathlons in the state of Georgia. This event has been our largest fundraiser over the past seven years, bringing in both local athletes and as well as others from all around northeast Georgia and South Carolina. Held at beautiful Sandy Creek Park in Athens, this sprint distance triathlon has become one of the mustdo events of the racing season and has enabled us to raise more than $500,000 that can be used specifically to assist local cancer patients.

Robert found out about The Cancer Foundation when he was undergoing radiation treatment for a prostate cancer diagnosis. Robert’s social worker, Koren Raymond, referred him to TCF who was able to help pay for transportation back and forth to treatment, and also help with a utility bill. Robert told us that when he heard about what TCF could do for him he was elated because he and his wife are living on a fixed income. Having to travel to Athens for treatment was taxing on Robert and his family so he was so excited to receive the help that the gas card provided. Robert spoke of TCF so kindly by saying that we are good people who are willing to help others no matter their circumstances. We are so glad The Cancer Foundation helped Robert get back on his feet and feel normal again, despite his cancer diagnosis. Robert wants people thinking of donating to TCF to know, “People are definitely being helped by [TCF].”

“When you’re down to nothing, and the hospital bills are coming in, it was such a relief to hear ‘We can help’ from the Foundation!” Robert’s wife, Mary, says, “When you’re down to nothing, and the hospital bills are coming in, it was such a relief to hear ‘We can help’ from the Foundation!” Robert and Mary are local residents of Madison County who, in their spare time, found spending time together with their two Boston Terriers. Robert is so thankful for his life and is looking forward to turning 80 in November and enjoying Polish food with his family!

The Pink Fashion Gala once again chose The Cancer Foundation as their charity!

Pink Gala and Fit for a Cure 5K The Cancer Foundation was the beneficiary of over $10,000 raised at the September 29th Pink Fashion Gala presented by Tanger Outlets and Northridge Medical Center and the Fit for a Cure 5K on October 15th.

T

he fashion gala and silent auction was held during Tanger Outlets’ month-long “The Power of Pink” celebration. “We were honored to partner with Tanger Outlets to host the 2nd annual Pink Gala Fashion Show. Our associates enjoy participating in a fun event while raising money for The Cancer Foundation. The Cancer Foundation is an organization we support because many of the clients are from our service area and we appreciate them helping local people.” The Pink Gala was made more special as four local ladies who are cancer survivors took to the runway to show off their style. The special models received a standing ovation from the crowd and Tricia Massey

presented each with a bouquet of pink roses at the event’s conclusion. “This event provided us with an opportunity to raise awareness for breast health, which starts with mammograms. Northridge Medical Center offers easy access for digital mammography screening and continues to promote education on the importance of mammograms,” said Tricia Massey, Director of Outreach at Northridge Medical Center. Tanger Outlets continued its focus on pink with the 8th annual Fit for a Cure 5K run/walk on Saturday, Oct. 15th. Proceeds from each entry fee benefited the Cancer Foundation. All finishers received a race medal, and the first 600 participants received a race pack, which included a souvenir t-shirt and other goodies.
