Perspectives 96: Carrie Mae Weems: The Kitchen Table Series
This publication accompanies an installation of Weems's seminal photographic representations of the verbal and visual details associated with this most mundane of domestic rooms. The installation includes photographs by and of the artist herself and focuses on the use of folk wisdom, blues, lyrics and slang to tell the story of one woman's struggle with love and the balance of male/female power in contemporary life. Includes an essay by Dana Friis-Hansen and documentation on the artist’s career.
(Exhibition on view March 2 – April 28, 1996)
