Introducing Aimee Ford

Aimee hails from the Isle of Man and has made her mark on the international competition scene earning herself golds at Cake International and International Salon Culinaire, and has recently joined the judging team at Cake International. She is well known for her modern style of cakes, bringing in a fun use of colour and texture whilst her tall tiers are instantly recognisable.

How did you get into the world of cake decorating?

Like so many cakers, I started baking a few cupcakes for family and friends.

With a bit of encouragement I decided to try to sell these bakes and that was it! I never looked back.

What's been your favourite cake trend recently?

I love that everyone is embracing alternative influences - art, ceramics, interior design, they are all influencing the new designs we see emerging and I am here for it!

@aimeefordltd What are your top cake decorating tips?

Don't underestimate the necessity of great foundations - level sponges, good ganaching, great internal supports - if you get the foundations right then the actual decorating will be much easier.

Work with local producers - if you can source great quality local products such as butter, milk, eggs, flour, then that will help boost your local economy and you can all promote each other.

A great tool kit - it doesn't have to be expensive, just find the tools that work for you and look after them.

Always make sure the background of your wedding cakes is going to look great in photographs - keep an eye out for fire exit signs, light switches, anything that will take the eye away from your cake!

Bento cake boxes made of regular cupcake boxes are definitely one of my favourite trends. I love how this hack gives so much room for creativity whilst being cost effective. And it’s super easy to recreate!

HOW TO MAKE A VEGAN chocolate CAKE! Are you looking to make a birthday cake for someone who is following a plant-based diet? You’ve come to the right place! Our friend Sarah has shared with us how to make a vegan birthday cake, including the replacement ingredients you’ll need and the steps to follow!

Whether you’ve been vegan for years, or are just dipping your toe in the plant-based pond, it’s easy to make a delicious cake that you (and your guests) are sure to enjoy.

Ingredients Here are the main replacements you’ll want to consider...

Where you would usually use dairy milk, switch it out for a plant-based milk (e.g. almond milk, soy milk, oat milk).

The same goes for butter – replace with a plant-based spread.

Where you would usually use eggs, use Apple Cider Vinegar. Visit our vegan ingredients blog post to learn more about egg replacements!

She was born and raised in Germany and moved to the UK in 2016 where she discovered her passion for cake decorating. Sarah enjoys creating vibrant showstoppers and is known for her modern & intricate designs.
