CM&B’s secret to success is simple. It’s our people and the relationships we have built over the past 30 years. Similarly, The Cabot has been fortunate enough to have the Dawson’s unyielding commitment to and contagious enthusiasm for The Cabot that has provided many with the opportunity to not only visit the theater as patrons, but to help ensure The Cabot’s future success.
THIS IS OUR NIGHT! We celebrate all that you’ve helped us accomplish over these 9 years, and rally the support to keep evolving.

Even with a dynamic career as an accomplished banking executive and small business owner, Jim Dawson makes the time to give back to his beloved hometown of Beverly. Jim has loved The Cabot since attending matinees in his pre-teen years. He later took his high school sweetheart, Marie Gilligan Dawson, on movie dates.
At the beginning of The Cabot’s transformation into a nonprofit, Jim was approached by Henry Bertolon, one of the original 5 founders of The Cabot’s new story. He and Marie quickly became major supporters, agreeing to fund the new marquee.
After a stint on The Cabot’s Development Committee, Jim joined the Board of Directors, eventually becoming Board Chair, and stewarded The Cabot through an exciting period of growth and evolution. Jim’s tenure as Board Chair oversaw the replacement of the nearly 100-year-old balcony seating, the installation of state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems, and the development of the Cabot Club, our premier membership program.
Jim and Marie are not only financial supporters but enthusiastic patrons. They attend many shows throughout the year from Kashmir (Jim’s a lifelong Led Zeppelin fan!) to Darlene Love (Marie’s favorite). You can always spot Jim on Cabot Street, proudly wearing his Cabot hat.
The Cabot is proud to recognize our friends and colleagues, Jim and Marie Dawson, and their unwavering efforts to help The Cabot become one of the preeminent arts and cultural institutions on the North Shore.
Make a gift in honor of Marie and Jim Dawson and support The Cabot’s In Focus educational filmmaking program.
Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter Ray LaMontagne has released 8 studio albums, 5 of which have reached Top 10 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart and Billboard’s Digital Albums chart. Additionally, Ray’s 2010 album God Willin’ & the Creek Don’t Rise won the Grammy for Best Folk Album and was nominated in the coveted Song of The Year category for “Beg Steal or Borrow.” Ray’s most recent release MONOVISION includes breakout songs such as “I Was Born To Love You” and #1 AAA single “Strong Enough”.
Each release from his catalog carries its own character and feel. American Songwriter says of MONOVISION, “Both LaMontagne’s craftsmanship in the composition of these songs and his easygoing, unaccompanied playing will come as comfort food to established followers who should welcome this most organic return to his roots.”
Critics across the US have also raved about his live performance. Consequence of Sound said, “Hearing Ray LaMontagne perform live is a poignant and magical experience.”
YOU ARE THE BEST THING
Lucinda Williams is lauded as one of the greatest American songwriters of our time, bringing raw and poetic reflections to life with one-of-a-kind vocals. She picked up the guitar and pen at age twelve and has never stopped creating her powerful and singular music. Her work cannot be pinned down by the genres that claim her work, from country and folk to blues and rock.
Over the course of fourteen remarkable albums she has been nominated for 17 Grammy Awards and garnered three, along with countless accolades, including Time’s Songwriter of the Year of 2001. Her recent double albums, Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone (2014) and Ghosts of Highway 20 (2016), released on her own label, received some of the best reviews of her career.

On the surface, our In Focus program is a filmmaking class for youth ages 10 to 15 years of age. In practice, these hands-on classes offer a deep impact curriculum that creates a critical safe space for kids to express and evolve their identities, learn the collaborative nature of success, and find their place in the world.
Throughout the program, young filmmakers make 5 or more films, changing their role each time. They not only learn a myriad of vocational skills this way but also get to grow; students who are natural leaders learn the power of supporting roles, and more hesitant or shy students get the chance to lead with their own ideas.
Thanks to the funding provided by the Jim and Marie Dawson fund, Someone Else’s Child, the Van Otterloo Foundation, and others, this program is rapidly expanding its scope and the generous number of full scholarships available, allowing kids from diverse backgrounds to learn and grow together.
You can contribute to make even more scholarships available.
Live events can create large quantities of waste-from thousands of plastic cups and water bottles to pallets of cardboard to hours of inefficient energy use. The Cabot is dedicated to conserving resources and reducing the ecological footprint of the Cabot on the earth and in the community we serve.
Our goal is to eliminate unnecessary waste, minimize adverse impacts on our cherished resources, and promote sustainable practices among other venues and communities. In 2019 we eliminated plastic cups, lids, and straws and switched to compostable popcorn bags. In 2021 we took the pledge to eliminate plastic water bottles by the end of 2022. We were not able to complete this process, but it is underway. By late spring of 2023 we will have installed filtered water systems at every bar and concession counter at the Cabot and plastic water bottles will no longer be sold. Please join us in our efforts when you visit The Cabot! By working together we can make big changes.
The Cabot is proud to partner with the Mass Cultural Council and Department of Transitional Assistance to offer the Card to Culture program, the most comprehensive effort of its kind in the nation to open doors to arts and culture experiences for low-income families.
Card to Culture lets EBT card holders purchase tickets to most Cabot events for $5 each. This special Card to Culture ticket price offers the experience of performances that span the genres —from concerts, to comedy, to movies, and more.
Community Conversations are free monthly events at The Cabot designed to promote discussion and drive change on important topics to our community.
Events always feature a live Q&A paired with experiences such as screenings, lectures, and musical performances. Community Conversations was first announced in May 2021 and has addressed diverse social issues such as homelessness, disability, and workplace equity.

Making a 100+ year old building fully accessible, as defined by the Architectural Access Board, is no easy feat, but The Cabot is almost there! We’ve had four ADA projects going on simultaneously this spring to hit our goal. The final pieces are to make the stage itself fully accessible and to get an elevator to the mezzanine.
Our elevator is here! It took a lot of support and collaborative work to make room for an elevator shaft in our century-old building, but we’ve done it. Once it passes inspection this spring, you can take a ride on up to the mezzanine.
