O

ctober for Bicol University has been a month of academic and institutional harvests with our Geodetic Engineers placing Bicol University in the national consciousness as the fourth top performing school, having garnered the third, fourth, and seventh spots in the Geodetic Engineering Licensure’s Exam.

On top of that, last October 29 and 30, we were able to get the coveted bronze medal from the Civil Service Commission (CSC) for 100 percent compliance of the Program to Institutionalize Meritocracy and Excellence in Human Resource Management (PRIME-HRM) Maturity Level II. As we continue to uphold our quest for quality academic programs, we have subjected our six academic programs on Bachelor of Science (BS) in Automotive Technology and the BS in Electronics Technology, the Bachelor of Arts (AB) in Philosophy, the Master of Arts in Physical Education (MAPE), Master in Economics, and the Doctor (PhD) in Development Management, to AACCUP accreditation survey visit.

When it rains, it definitely pours.

For all these and more, I extend my warmest congratulations to everyone for always managing to walk the extra mile for Bicol University! We are a work in progress and more are expected of us, Pres Outbox | P7

BU earns three spots in top ten rankings for GE Board Exams; lands 4th top performing school Bicol University once again proved to be one of the nation’s top-notch universities by earning the fourth rank in the top performing schools in the recently released October 2019 Geodetic Engineering Licensure Examination results, including three examinees in the top ten rankings, as revealed by the results released last October 28.

In the result of the exam that was released by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) last October 28, BU boasted a total of forty-two passers out of forty-nine examinees, garnering the university an overall passing rate of 85.71 percent.

This year’s Geodetic Engineering Licensure Examination had a national passing rate of 54.84 percent, with only 481 out of 877 examinees successfully passing the exam.

Given the remarkable performance of BU’s exam takers, BU clenched the fourth top performing rank among schools offering the Bachelor of Science in Geodetic Engineering (BSGE) program. Among this year’s top performing schools are the University of the Philippines (UP) –Diliman, Pampanga State Agricultural University, Caraga State University in Butuan City, Visayas State University, University of South-

eastern Philippines in Davao City, and the University of Saint Louis in Tuguegarao.

Among the graduates of Bicol University College of Engineering’s (BUCEng) Geodetic Engineering Department who took the said exam, four led the pack by putting forth an outstanding performance and nabbing the spots in the top ten rankings. With an average of 88.20 percent, Clifford Marco Arimado earned the third spot in the top ten rankings, followed by Kim Gelacio Abila Golbeque who grabbed the fourth spot in the top ten with a score of 88 percent. Also in the leader board, Arjay Abocado Nuñez bagged the seventh place in the top ten with an exam score of 86.60 percent.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) conducted the Geodetic Engineer Licensure Exam in the cities of Manila and Cebu on October 23 and 24, 2019. The members of the Board of Geodetic Engineering who gave the licensure examination are Engr. Epifanio D. Lopez as Chairman, along with Engr.

Concordio D. Zuñiga and Engr. Randolf S. Vicente as members.

The two-day examination covered the subjects of laws, rules and regulations, mathematics, theory and practice of surveying (October 23), and geodesy and cartography (October 24).

CSC to confer PRIME-HRM Bronze Medal to BU

A

fter a two-day on-site assessment conducted by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) last October 29 and 30, Bicol University earns its bronze medal for 100 percent compliance of the Program to Institutionalize Meritocracy and Excellence in Human Resource Management (PRIME-HRM) Maturity Level II.

The PRIME-HRM is a mechanism that empowers government agencies by developing their human resource management competencies, systems, and practices toward human resource (HR) excellence. PRIME-HRM entails greater engagement not just of the human resource management officer (HRMO) but also of the officials and the rank-and-file employees of the government institution.

Under the PRIME-HRM, the CSC will assess the maturity level of an agency’s competencies, systems, and practices in four HR systems: (1) recruitment, selection, and placement; (2) learning and development; (3) performance management; and (4) rewards and recognition.

The goal is to elevate the level

of excellence of the public sector’s HRM, through the assessment, to be at par with global HRM standards.

Before CSC’s on-site assessment in BU, around seventy BU officials and personnel were assisted by the BU Human Resource Management and Development Office (HRMDO), the university’s lead office for the activity.

CSC Albay Field Office Director Sharon Faridah A. Flores also provided final technical assistance to the participants during an orientation last October 23.

On the first day of the on-site assessment, BU was visited by CSC Camarines Norte Field Office Director Rosalinni V. Mendoza and CSC Camarines Sur Field Office Human Resource Specialist Ms. Noreen Grace P. Hayag who served as the PRIME-HRM assessors.

After a brief opening meeting at the BU College of Science (BUCS) Function Hall, the assessors proceeded with first phase of the assessment, coined “Tell Me”, where BU’s officials and personnel were interviewed by the assessors from the CSC.

HR’s Honored and Recognized – BU President Dr. Arnulfo M. Mascariñas expressed his gratitude towards the Civil Service Commission after their favourable assessment on the University’s PRIME-HRM Maturity Level.

was the executive interview with BU President Dr. Arnulfo M. Mascariñas and Vice President for Administration and Finance (VPAF) Atty. Joseph L. Bartolata, followed by the second level interview (second batch) involving 48 of BU’s teaching and non-teaching personnel.

Afterwards, the assessors conducted the Level 01 interview with the third batch of interviewees, composed of 14 non-teaching personnel. For the final interview, the CSC officials talked with BU-HRMDO Supervising Administrative Officer Dr. Jennifer T. Barrameda.

The second day of the assessment was focused more on the “Show Me” phase of the assessment, where competencies of the HRMD office was assessed through document validation.

During the document validation process, 45 ‘201 Folders’, along with other pertinent HR documents, were inspected by the assessors to see if BU has complied with the PRIME-HRM indicators.

The assessment concluded with an exit conference, where the PRIMEHRM on-site assessment results were presented by CSC Camarines Sur Field Office Human Resource Specialist Ms. Noreen Grace P. Hayag. As per the said results, BU has achieved 100 percent compliance in terms of PRIME-HRM Maturity based on Level II indicators.

The result showed that BU has exhibited the PRIME-HRM adoption through its three lenses, which are practices (used to determine the actual implementation of the HRM system), competencies (determines the capabilities of the HRM office), and systems (evaluation of indicators pertaining to policies, processes, procedures, tools, and systems that govern an agency’s HRM).With these goals achieved, Bicol University will be conferred the Bronze Award this coming December as one of the agencies in the Philippines which were found to be PRIME-HRM Level II compliant.

After the presentation of the results, BU President Dr. Arnulfo M. Mascariñas thanked the visitors from the CSC for their favourable assessment and expressed his confidence in BU’s continuing development in the field of HRMD.

BUCAF students win ATI’s Organic Agriculture Quiz Bee

in higher and basic education, the Bicol University College of Education (BUCE) gathered faculty members across the university to participate in their ICT Integration in the 21st Century Classrooms Seminar-Workshop, held this October 17 and 18 at the BUCE’s CTE Hall in the BU Main Campus.

As part of its mandate as a Center of Excellence in Teacher Education, BUCE organized the said activity to capacitate educators from teacher education institutions (TEIs) and teachers in the basic education department with sufficient foundation in ICT integration and appropriate technological and pedagogical skills for the 21st century.

The first day of this two-day activity was structured as a seminar where lecturers where invited to discuss key topics and provide clarifications for the participants during the open forums.

On the second day, the activity focused on the workshop where participating teachers were immersed into hand-on learning sessions.

The first day of the event opened with a brief opening program, facilitated by the members of the BUCE’s Management and Professional Education (MPE) Department. During the opening program, the participants were welcomed by BUCE Dean Dr. Lorna Miña, who delivered the opening remarks in behalf of BU President Dr. Arnulfo M. Mascariñas.

Dr. Miña was also the first lecturer of the seminar, where she discussed the ICT in the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST). The BUCE Dean also presented and explained the current policies, standards and guidelines for Teacher Education Programs, with

emphasis on the Technology for Teaching and Learning (TTL) 01 and 02.

After Dr. Miña’s learning session, it was BU’s Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) Director Dr. Rebecca Rosario O. Bercasio’s turn to lead the discussion.

In her talk, she discussed about the 21st Century Learners and the trends in 21st Century Teaching.

The third discussant of the day was Prof. Julius R. Satparam, faculty member of BUCE’s MPE Department, who expounded on exploring and utilizing Open Educational Resources (OER) for TTL 01 and 02.

As the last resource person of the day, Dr. Aries S. Perez, faculty member of BUCE’s Literature and Language Department, talked about modern ways of convenient and efficient teaching with the use of mobile applications for different specializations.

After the discussion of each speaker, an open forum was held, moderated by Dr. Epifania B. Nuñez and Dr. Ma. Eden A. Ante, to give the audience an opportunity raise their questions and improve their understanding of the topics.

On the second day of the activity, the workshop on ‘ICT integration in the different field of specialization’ began with the presentation and critiquing of syllabi for TTL 01 and 02, conducted by MPE Department faculty member Prof.

Ma. Cienna A. Jaucian.

In the afternoon, the teachers participated in the workshop, which was facilitated and evaluated by the faculty members of the BUCE’s MPE Department.

Afterwards, the activity concluded with a message of BU Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) Dr. Helen M. Llenaresas and the closing remarks of BUCE MPE Department Chairperson Prof. Maria Cecilia P. Aguilar.

tudents of Bicol University College of Agriculture and Forestry (BUCAF) once again brought honor to their school as their five representatives, under the guidance of Coach Prof. Antonio P. Padayao Jr., emerged victorious in the Agricultural Training Institute’s (ATI) Organic Agriculture (OA) Quiz Bee, held last October 04 at the Robinsons Place Mall in Naga City.The ATI in Region 5 held the said Organic Agriculture Quiz Bee, entitled “Search for Kabataang OA”, as one of its strategies to promote indigenous but economically viable technologies that will entice the youth to pursue a career in farming. According to ATI, the quiz bee will promote agriculture as a decent and incomegenerating profession to the young Bicolanos.

In the said competition, the participating schools in the Bicol region are Polangui Community College, Catanduanes State University, Partido State University, Camarines Norte State College, Libon Community College, Bicol University College of Agriculture and Forestry, Sorsogon State University, and Dr. Emilio Espinosa Sr. Memorial State College of Agriculture and Technology in Masbate.

The student-participants from BUCAF are Abegail A. Aban who became the second runner-up of the contest, Alan B. Aycardo who became the contest champion, Angelica C. Afable, Christine E. Laila who nabbed the fourth runnerup spot, and Hendryx D. Capino. They are coached by Prof. Antonio P. Padayao Jr. of BUCAF’s Agricultural Technology Department.

With their victory in the quiz bee last October 04, the BUCAF students received medals and trophies. As the champion, Alan Aycardo will also have the honor of representing the Bicol region in the national competition in November 05 as part of the celebration of Organic Agriculture Month.

Contest champion Alan Aycardo was also given a Php 5,000 cash prize and Php 50,000 worth of school project for BUCAF. As second runner-up, Abegail Aban also received a Php 2,000 cash prize and Php 20,000 worth of school project for BUCAF.

AACCUP visits BU for accreditation survey of six academic programs

Sixteen (16) accreditors from the Accredited Agency of Chartered Colleges and University of the Philippines (AACCUP) visited Bicol University from October 21 to 23 to conduct their second and third accreditation survey visit for six academic programs at BU’s Main, Daraga, and East Campuses.

On October 21, upon the arrival of the visitors from AACCUP, the group made a courtesy visit to the BU President Dr. Arnulfo Mascariñas at the University President’s Office.

They were later welcomed by the BU family during an opening program held at the BU-FICC Building Amphitheatre in the East Campus. The accreditors, headed by their Overall Coordinator Dr. Marcela T. Caluscosin, met up with top officials, headed by the University President and Vice Presidents.

In his message during the opening program, BU President Dr. Mascariñas mentioned how the accreditation process is part of the university’s way of life, given its continuous drive towards worldclass excellence in education.

The AACCUP is an accreditation agency in the Philippines with 111 institutional members and, in 20 years until 2012, has accredited almost 3000 academic programs of higher education institutions (HEIs) in the country.

In line with the university’s goal of becoming a world-class HEI, having its programs accredited by AACCUP is the next big step in achieving the said goal.

The opening program also served as a platform for the AACCUP accreditors to be formally introduced to their counterparts in BU, particularly those who were part of the university’s accreditation steering committee and colleges’ accreditation task force. The introduction of

the BU officials and committee members was led by the university’s Vice President for Academic Affairs and University Steering Committee Chairperson Dr. Helen Llenaresas, while the introduction of the AACCUP accreditation team was done by Dr. Caluscosin.

The accreditors were subdivided into teams assigned to each academic program under review. The programs are the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Automotive Technology and the BS in Electronics Technology in BU College of Industrial Technology (BUCIT), the Bachelor of Arts (AB) in Philosophy in the BU College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP), the Master of Arts in Physical Education (MAPE) in the BU Institute of Physical Education, Sports and Recreation (IPESR), the Master in Economics in the BU College of Business, Economics and Management (CBEM), and the Doctor (PhD) in Development Management in the BU Graduate School (BUGS).

For the programs of BS in Automotive Technology, BS in Electronics Technology, and AB in Philosophy, it is the AACCUP’s third survey visit. While, for the APE, Master in Economics, and PhD in Development Management (Areas III and IV), it is the agency’s second accreditation survey visit.

The survey for the BS in Automotive and Electronics Technology programs, the survey was held at BUCIT Dean’s Office in the BU East Campus. For the Master in Economics and PhD in Development Management’s accreditation, the survey was held at the Accreditation Room of the Aquilino P. Bonto Building in the BU Main Campus.

The AB in Philosophy’s accreditation survey was held at BU-CSSP in the BU Daraga Campus. While the survey for the MAPE program was held at

the BU-IPESR’s Deans Office.

During this four-day accreditation visit, the accreditors assessed the quality and efficiency standard being upheld in the said academic programs across the university’s three campuses in Albay province, particularly in terms of faculty, research, and curriculum.

On October 23, the three-day accreditation survey concluded with a closing program held at the BUFICC Amphitheatre in the BU East Campus.

The said program began with the opening remarks given by BUGS Dean Dr. Antonio P. Payonga.

Afterwards, the accreditors shared the summary of their impressions and comments, based on what they have observed in the university within the past three days.

In turn, BUCIT Dean Dr. Jonathan Arroco, BU-CSSP Dean Atty. Alex Nepomuceno, BU-CBEM Dean Dr. Eddie See, BUGS Dean Dr. Antonio P. Payonga, and BU-IPESR Director Prof. Carina Sales stated their commitment and support for further improvement of the programs in their respective institutions.

To show BU’s gratefulness on the accreditation teams’ hard work, Certificates of Commendation were awarded to the accreditors. The awarding was done by the university’s VPAA Dr. Helen Llenaresas, VPAF Atty.

The survey visit and the program officially concluded with a message of thanks given by VPAF Atty. Jospeh Bartolata, followed by the singing of the BU Hymn. UP and BU Law partner for conduct of FGDs for improved legal profession and education

n their pursuit to further improve the quality of the legal profession and education in the Philippines, the academics from the University of the Philippines (UP) Law Center partnered with Bicol University College of Law (BUCL) for the conduct of a Focus Group Discussions (FGD) involving representatives of concerned Bicolano sectors.

The FGDs were held at the BUCL library located at the Aquilino P. Bonto Building in the Main Campus, headed by UP College of Law professor and Legal Education Board (LEB) consultant Atty. Tanya Lat, last October 16 and 17.

The talks, divided in a series of sessions, involved gathering the informative and opinionated inputs from representatives of various sectors who employ the services of lawyers and legal professionals, including those from the academic, religious, business, private, and public institutions.

The FGD held in BU is one of the many similar gatherings organized by the UP Law Center throughout the Philippines. These substantial data are collected for their study on how to improve the legal practice by formulating solutions like changes in the curriculum of law schools.

Upon her arrival in the university, Atty. Lat first paid a courtesy visit to BU President Dr. Arnulfo M. Mascariñas, accompanied by BUCL Dean Atty. Hardy Aquende. In her visit, Atty. Lat was accompanied by the UP Law Center’s Legal Education Specialist Atty. Renee Fopalan.

The activity, including the official partnership of UP Law and BU Law, was made possible by BUCL Dean Atty. Hardy Aquende and BU’s Chief Administrative Officer Atty. Norly P. Reyes. Along with the visiting fellow law students from other law schools in the Bicol region, the BUCL students were also present during the activity, both as participants and facilitators.

Climate Change in the Field of Fisheries – Faculty members of Bicol University Tabaco Campus’ (BUTC) Fisheries Department, headed by Dean Maria Gisella N. Mortega, attended the annual convention of the Asosasyon ng mga Propesyonal sa Pangangisdaan ng Pilipinas, Inc. (APPP), hosted by the Western Philippines University (WPU) at Puerto Princesa City in Palawan last October 9, 2019.

limate change in fisheries was the focus of the annual convention of the Asosasyon ng mga Propesyonal sa Pangangisdaan ng Pilipinas, Inc. (APPP), hosted by the Western Philippines University (WPU) at Puerto Princesa City in Palawan last October 9, 2019.

This seminar-training of APPP was attended by the licensed professional Fishery Technologist all over the country.

The composition of the participants came from varied sectors of the fishery industry such as the academe, local government units, national government agencies, the business sector, nongovernment organizations, and the private sector to name a few.

The Bicol University Tabaco Campus’ (BUTC) Fisheries Faculty, headed by Dean Maria Gisella N. Mortega, Grace B. Brizuela, Maria Azuncion V. Oronan, Maria Corazon R. Collantes, Karen Boots Briñas and Ivy S. Arizapa, attended the said training. This convention seeks to present new trends and information in the fisheries industry and improve the networks within the profession.

The highlights of the convention centered on the nature of climate change, mitigation and adaptation in the Southeast Asian region, which was presented by Dr. Laura David from the Marine Science Department of the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman. The discussion focused on the natural variability of earth system which causes the intensity of climate change. Her presentation also shed light

on the human activities which attributes to more changes on land and in the biosphere.

Another expert on climate change, Asia and Middle East and Christian Aid adviser Ms. Jessica Dactor –Bercilla, presented the results of the “Climate Resilience: Challenges and Opportunities for Christian Aid Sustainable Development in Coastal”, where she proudly reflected on the attempts at ecosystem restoration as an approach to recover marine bio-resources.

The expert mentioned how real climate change effects are in coastal communities and applauded the various activities done by different agencies in moving towards resolving the issue on climate change. She further expounded the call for all fisheries technologists to participate in achieving net zero greenhouse gas emission by 2050 (at the latest).

In the afternoon sessions of the convention, technical expert Dr. Mudjekeewis Santos from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources’ (BFAR) National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI) delivered the results of the ‘Nationwide Climate Change Vulnerability and Sustainability Assessment for Aquaculture and Capture.’ He emphasized the deliverables and importance of research and science in tackling the challenges of climate change. Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (BCAARRD) has initiated a consortium-led research program on pili nut, one of Bicol’s flagship commodities. Such initiative resulted in the approval of the Pili Niche R&D Center for the Region (PILI NICER) Program under the Science for Change Program of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

The Program will run for three years with a total cost amounting to Php 46, 449, 254. Pili NICER program has project components being spearheaded by the Consortium Member Institutions (CMIs) with proposals submitted to BCAARRD last 2016 and 2017. Bicol University College of Agriculture and Forestry (BUCAF) in Guinobatan, Albay is implementing five out of the seven projects in the program, hence, Bicol University is the lead agency with Dr. Marissa N. Estrella as the Program Leader.

On the other hand, Partido State University (ParSU) is leading the Knowledge Management (KM) Project on Pili with Dr. Ronnel Atole as Project Leader, and Central Bicol State University (CBSUA) on Geomapping and Characterization of Pili Production Areas in the Bicol Region with Dr. Vladimir Foronda as Leader.

The proposals were evaluated

by DOST-PCAARRD internal and external evaluators to compose the Pili R&D Program. Revisions and consolidation of proposals were done and the program underwent a series of presentation and defense at the following:(1) DOST-PCAARRD’s Directorate Council on last March 05 in Los Baños, Laguna; (2) DOST Executive Committee last March 13 at the DOST-PNRI in Manila; and (3)

nstilling the value of entrepreneurial mindset towards nation-building, the Asian+ Council of Leaders, Administrators, Deans and Educators in Business (ACLADEB), through its partnership with Bicol University (BU), held their 5th Student Educators’ Summit last October 04 at the BU East Campus in Legazpi City.

Focused on the theme: “Entrepreneurial Mindset for Universities and Colleges’ Programs towards Nation Building”, the discussions and activities of the 5th Student Educators’ Summit revolved around the connection of academic instruction to key topics in the business industry like accounting and management.

The gathering was also made possible through ACLADEB’s partnership with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (PCCI) Education Committee and Government Academe Industry Linkage (GAIL) Sub-Committee, as well as with the Certs Educational Services.

The event was attended by 1,200 participants, composed of educators, students, experts, leaders and representatives of various stakeholders in the business sector.

At the start of the gathering, the guests and participants were welcomed by the head of the host school, BU President Dr. Arnulfo M. Mascariñas. In his welcome remarks, the BU President stressed the significance of an entrepreneurial mind and spirit in achieving relevant social development.

“The entrepreneurial spirit is one with a vibrant mind open to all sorts of imagination and is able to contribute to poverty reduction,” Dr. Mascariñas stated. It can also be recalled that, last January 2019, Dr. Mascariñas was also conferred the “Most Outstanding CEO – Global Education Award” by ACLADEB during their ASEAN+ Convention at Puerto Princesa City in Palawan.

After the BU President’s remarks, the activity was officially opened by ACLADEB Founding Chairman and President Dr. Dionisio G. Magpantay. The flow of the program was also facilitated by masters of ceremony, Dr. Donna

Marie M. Magpantay and Prof. Christina UyBallesteros.

The first resource speaker for the summit was Stock Market School President Ms. Claire S. Quiray, who talked about the “Stock Market Education: Key to Entrepreneurship”. Later, a lecture on “How to Start Your Own Business” was given by Dr. Emilia M. Mananghaya, the PCCI GAIL Sub-Committee Chairperson.

Afterwards, Prof. Franklin T. Agamata, President of Certs Educational Services, discussed the “Relevance of Accountancy Program to Entrepreneurial Activities Towards Nation-Building”. Digital Software Technology Consultancy’s owner and chief architect Dr. Thomas C. Saddul also delved into the “Updates in Industry 4.0 vs. Education”.

During the afternoon, Sustainable Enterprise for Excellence and Development Studies Foundation’s President Dr. Danilo F. Marcelo Jr. shared his valuable knowledge in the business industry. His talk was followed by a learning discussion headed by discussants from PCCI-GAIL. The last guest speaker of the day was Dr. Ricardo P. Pama, the Secretary General of the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP), who shared “Relevant Updates of the AUAP Activities in relation to Disruptive Challenges Affecting Educational Ecosystem”.

As an exhibit of solidarity among institutions involved in entrepreneurial education, the afternoon also involved Memorandum of Agreements (MOA) signings which established partnerships among the participating organizations.

Finally, as the highlight of the 5th Student Educators’ Summit, recognition and awards were conferred to the Ten Excellent Students of ACLADEB (TESA) and the Ten Excellent Educators of ACLADEB (TEEA).

roving they are indeed among the best in the country, the 113 graduates of Bicol University College of Science’s (BUCS) Chemistry Department successfully passed the October 2019 Chemist and Chemical Technician Licensure Examination, including three examinees who made it to the top ten passers, as per the announced result last October 14.

For Bicol University’s overall performance in the said examination, BU garnered the passing rate of 32.61 percent (15 passers out of 46 examinees) for the Chemist Licensure Examination (CLE), and 98.99 percent (98 passers out of 99 examinees) for the Chemical Technician Licensure Examination (CTLE).

Giving a stand-out performance among their group was seventh top passer for the CLE and eighth in the CLTE, Ms. Querubin Padura Gapas, with a score of 88.20 percent in the CLE and 89.50 percent in the CTLE. Also giving a strong finish in the exam is Mr. Christopher Caponga Mar, who tied with Ms. Gapas at the top eighth place in the CTLE with a score of 89.50 percent.

They were joined in the CTLE Top Ten by Ms. Quennie Marie Lovino Bañares, who nabbed the ninth top spot with the score of 89.00 percent.

As revealed by the results of the said tests, conducted by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) last 8 to 10 of October 2019, 457 out of 1,085 (42.12 percent) passed the Chemist Licensure Examination, while 2,298 out of 2,834 (81.09 percent) passed the Chemical Technician Licensure Examination.

Comparatively, the 2019 CLE and CTLE proved to be more challenging than that of 2018, with last year’s national passing rate being 45.05 percent (496 passers out of 1,101 examinees) and 87.32 percent (1,673 passers out of 1,916 examinees) respectively.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) conducted the Chemist Licensure Exam on October 8 and 9 in the cities of Manila, Cagayan De Oro and Cebu. Meanwhile, the Chemical Technician Licensure Exam was administered on October 10.

The members of the Board of Chemistry, who gave the licensure examinations, are Ms. Adoracion P. Resurreccion as chairperson, members Ms. Soledad S. Castañeda and Ms. Ma. Theresa C. Cayton.

The two-day examination for chemists covered the major subjects of inorganic chemistry (25 percent), organic chemistry (15 percent), analytical chemistry (25 percent), physical chemistry (20 percent) and biochemistry (15 percent). On The other hand, the one-day examination for Chemical Technician covered the subjects of analytical chemistry (50 percent) and organic chemistry (50 percent).
