fter celebrating 50 years of our beloved Bicol University, we are once again welcoming another academic year. This year and the many years after, we hope to continue sustaining gains, and building milestones. We do not really know what this year may bring. But the many uncertainties can still be tempered by our vision that will guide us in the right direction towards the attainment of our Ten-Point Agenda. We will continue to work towards building better dreams and aspirations for Bicol University. I know that with your steadfast support and untiring service, whatever challenges we may face in this year and beyond, we will overcome with the same grace and grit that we have shown through the years. BU, ASIATECH, ICPEP launches 1ST IRCCEEE 2020

icol University (BU), together with Asia Technological School of Science and Arts (ASIATECH) and Institute of Computer Engineers of the Philippines (ICpEP), launches the 1st International Research Conference in Computing, Engineering, Education, and Educational-Technology (IRCCEEE) 2020 at the La Piazza Hotel and Convention Center last January 9, 2020. With the theme, The Role of Education Technology in Computing Science, Engineering, and Education, the conference was attended by academicians and professionals from different colleges, universities, and schools across the Philippines The event began with BU President Dr. Arnulfo Mascariñas addressing the participants with his opening remarks of how vital education is and its role to the society. “Education is always a catalyst for social transformation and development, incorporating best ideas, especially those that you can get from conferences such as this, adopting these as practices, and bringing these right into the heart of the classroom is the only way to ensure a meaningful and transformative education,” he said.
The international research conference, according to Desiderio R. Apag III, M. Eng., National President of ICpEP, will be an opportunity for the researchers in the academe and industry to showcase their scholarly works and improve their research capability and productivity for a more sustainable technology in computing, engineering, and education Afterwards, key note speaker Dr. Bobby D. Gerardo of Western Visayas State University shared an academic discussion on “Deep Learning Classifier based Bayesian Belief Network for Biomedicine Diagnosis Application”. On the other hand, Frei Sangil, Chief Executive Officer of LAYER Tech Software Labs Inc., focused on the importance of the history of science and technology through the years. Last keynote speaker Prof. Hsing-Lung Lien, Ph.D., Vice President of the National University of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, expressed his gratitude for being part of the progress, in partnership with BU, for a better quality education through the integration of research, teaching and technology, and to build the infrastructure for the implementation of precision education in the near future.
