Dame Cressida Dick DBE QPM was appointed Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) for London in 2017. Joining the Force in 1983, she became operations superintendent and area commander in Oxford for three years and in 2001, she returned to the MPS as a commander, before becoming assistant commissioner in 2009. Dame Cressida will be presenting the Public Bravery Award 2020.

Simon has been Chairman of the BSIA since 2018. He is also Managing Director of CSL Group with over 30 years of experience within the industry. Simon will today be opening and closing the awards, concluding with a special announcement.
Ian joined the SIA in February 2019. He previously held the post of Deputy Director General at the IOPC.
A former Regimental Sergeant Major, serving in Africa and the Middle East with experience as a Close Protection Officer, Rick now heads up the Security Institute, encouraging professional development and continuous learning.

Harriet joined the Global Security Operations Centre (GSOC), Mitie’s intelligence function in June 2019, and with less than a year in post, Harriet’s output has been nothing short of outstanding.
As a newcomer to Mitie, Daniel has been exceptional. He is always professional and conscientious and has really stepped up in recent months when the team has been short.

Emilija and Barry are being commended to their actions in helping a colleague who had collapsed with a heart attack, taking turns to apply continuous chest compression. Although a traumatic experience for the pair assisting a colleague, they managed to save his life through their brave actions.
James is being recognised today for his actions after a road accident involving a bus which had hit a child. He administered first aid whilst reassuring the child and also dealt with an additional trauma when the bus driver had a suspected heart attack. James also administered first aid to the driver until the paramedics arrived to help both victims.

Rohan, who has just turned 18, was dispatched to a first aid call with a male that had no pulse and was not breathing. He applied CPR and placed a defibrillator on his chest, and although only passing his defibrillator course days earlier, gave shocks until the emergency services took over some time later.Â
Colin prevented a suicide of a neighbouring office employee, calling the emergency services, providing first aid and moving vehicle occupants to safety following three road traffic accidents directly outside.
Rohan remained calm and dealt with the situation in hand in a professional manner.
There were many bystanders too panicked to act, but Colin ensured there was cover on the security reception and then attended to assist.

Outstanding Act Thomas Irving G4S

Thomas is being commended for dealing with two potential suicide attempts when he managed to successfully talk down a man who was threatening to jump off a railway bridge.
Damian & David acted selflessly to protect customers and colleagues and saved the life of a vulnerable woman during a traumatic incident.
Having stopped him once, when the Police came to assist he broke free and Thomas had to again restrain him and to calm him down in order for him to go to hospital.
Had they not done what they did that night there most certainly would have been a fatality. Both were praised by the emergency services for their quick thinking.

Paul and his team had to deal with a man with a machete at one of the main entrance/exits of the centre. When the controller turned the camera to the location reported, he could clearly see the man sat on the bench with a very large machete in his hand. The whole team's quick and professional reaction to the situation ensured everyone's safety. The team assisted the Police to apprehend him.
Tanya and Emma, who are dog handlers, took on a known thief who ran at them brandishing a hammer, pushing Emma out of the way and attempting to hit Tanya with the hammer before throwing it at her colleague, narrowly missing her. They managed to restrain him until the police arrived even giving him water when he complained of thirst and discomfort.

Adam has been nominated today for dealing with a violent shoplifter he apprehended who then threatened and stabbed Adam repeatedly with a shard of glass as he stood in the shoplifter's way in order to protect shoppers and other colleagues.
Benjamin noticed a man collapsed in a car park of the supermarket he was working at and gave him many rounds of chest compression before using a defibrillator, administering five more compression rounds whilst waiting for paramedics to arrive.
Adam safely restrained the male on the floor whilst injured and awaited the arrival of the Police.
His actions potentially saved a person’s life.

Riasat and Meluleki came to the assistance of a traumatised job seeker who had tried to hang themselves from a stairwell, with Riasat grabbing hold of him midfall and Meluleki helping to pull him over the railings and removing the cord from his neck.
The team investigated a high value theft case that involved an individual client employee stealing over ÂŁ22,000 worth of cigarettes.
Meluleki and Riasat then stayed with him to keep him calm until the emergency services arrived.
The officers dedicated over two months of their time in order to carry out an investigation on the individual, who was clearly involved in organised crime and money laundering, leading to an arrest.Â

George, Andy, William and the team are being commended today for their work in apprehending a known shoplifter who had been covering tags with tin foil who had spent the morning stealing goods over a series of trips to and from her car worth over ÂŁ1.5K.
The team are being recognised today for dealing with a hyper aggressive patient with dementia for 72 hours. They had to stay with her and constantly restrain her to protect the nurses and doctors providing care, as well as the patient's mother.
As individuals they are motivated simply by being part of the team, having known each other for years and genuinely enjoy working together, creating a bond more like family than work colleagues.
The team have also taken it on their own back to make themselves aware of free information and training on dementia care and mental health being delivered at the hospital.

The team are being commended for stopping a patient from hanging themselves from a tree during which a team member was also attacked. They made the difference between a man living or dying. Their training, abilities can do attitude and overall desire to help the most vulnerable at their lowest came to fruition during this incident.
The team have professionally dealt with and resolved the following: four suicide attempts including a female who was trying to kill herself and her unborn baby, using the CCTV system security to find and detain a two 13-year-old males attacking another with a knife, a shooting in the car park and multiple drug deals.

The B&Q Crime Centre dynamically displays real-time, top-level incident data analysis to enable actions to be deployed. With over 2,000 incidents being entered each month, the speed of delivery to the crime centre is rapid, with each unique incident classified and scored automatically.
G4S developed a CCTV system that ensures every part of the mall has CCTV coverage, or where a strategically placed speed dome would be able to provide the security team with real time coverage and instant playback from anywhere within the scheme, car park and surrounding areas.

Armour App is a completely bespoke tool with core technology using a .NET backend data system API and React Native as the core technology behind the iOS and Android Apps. It has been used by LRM Security staff for the past year and feedback has been great.
G4S created brand new online training, dedicated to the requirements of RBS, covering all aspects of security and focusing on ‘Speedgate training’ to enable every officer to be able to undergo this training to better equip them to provide service excellence on every aspect of their daily duties.
G4S Secure Solutions DWP Digital Ecosystem G4S removed all site based paperwork from the DWP estate by developing an interactive digital ecosystem to provide over 3,000 officers, in over 700 locations across the country, the ability to document their activity and produce reports as and when they occurred.

Mike has been nominated for his pioneering work as Research Director of Smartwater Technology, for developing a totally new concept in security, Smartwater Traceable Liquid.
Jason has dedicated his career to the security industry with over 25 years in the industry, beginning with his own company, offering retail detective services to major high street retailers.
This liquid is now used widely throughout the world, to protect a broad array of valuable assets within the public and private sectors, helping the UK and international law enforcement agencies solve hundreds of serious crimes.
In 2001 he joined Chubb before transferring to Securitas during the 2011 acquisition, taking up roles as Managing Director of aviation and leading the retail business unit, before joining Mitie as Managing Director in 2012.
Paul Jacomb STM Group Paul has an unrivalled track record of success within the security services industry. Passionate about continuous service improvement, Paul’s career in the security industry commenced in 1993 (prior to this he spent 11 years with the British Army). He subsequently successfully managed three of the Top Ten (Infologue) security companies, including leading an MBO of Pegasus Security Group. Paul worked for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office prior to joining STM Group.

The Public Bravery Award acknowledges the outstanding courage, initiative and composure exhibited by a member of the public in the face of exceptional, challenging or dangerous situations. It recognises the brave actions that have thwarted a potential theft. A brave and courageous member of the public will be awarded today by the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Dame Cressida Dick DBE QPM, who will personally thank them for their brave actions. Today's winner has gone above and beyond to prevent a serious crime in action. The immediate actions of our winner who, without any thought to their own safety, tackled and apprehended a dangerous criminal who had just committed a cash in transit robbery, were extremely brave. Today's Public Bravery Award is our opportunity for the security industry and the Police to say thank you.

Chairman's Award The British Security Awards will close with a special Chairman's Award, personally chosen and presented by Chairman of the BSIA, Simon Banks. At the British Security Awards, it is always the tradition to close with the Chairman’s Award to recognise an outstanding individual who has made a fantastic and life-long commitment to the industry. But this year is different as clearly evidenced by bringing our awards to you online today. Choosing a winner most years is always a difficult task for anyone, but for 2020, I had only one nomination in mind and therefore only one winner that I felt deserved the recognition of this particular award. It gives me great pleasure to be able to announce this special award today, live at the British Security Awards Online 2020.

British Security Awards: thank you to our judges Roy Cooper Professional Security Magazine Roy is the Managing Director and co-owner of Professional Security Magazine which has been established since 1990. It serves the UK security market for both end users and installers alike. Roy has been in the security industry since 1972 starting as an apprentice alarm engineer through to doing sales for installation companies, manufacturers and distribution. Mike Hurst Global Security Influencer Mike is a respected global security advisor, responsible for HJA Consult, which recruits across the security profession, specialising in executive to senior management levels. Mike also co-founded AllSecurityEvents.com and was Vice Chairman of the UK Chapter of ASIS International. Pauline Norstrom Anekanta Consulting
Pauline has worked in the security industry for over 15 years, holding statutory board positions since the mid 2000’s including Marketing Director, Group Director and Chief Operating Officer following various senior management roles. Pauline is also an Honorary Member of the BSIA and former Chair of the Association.
British Security Awards: thank you to our judges Dave Wilkinson British Security Industry Association Dave is responsible for coordinating all technical and quality matters at the BSIA, including acting as representative on various UK, European and International standards committees and acting as UK representative on various Cenelec and Euralarm committees. In addition, Dave is the industry lead for the UK’s Security & Resilience Industry Suppliers Community (RISC). Steve Lampett British Security Industry Association Steve is responsible for coordinating the BSIA groups that develop BSIA Codes of Practice and Guidelines and provides input to national and international standards committees on the subjects of intruder alarms, access control, asset and property (including vacant property) protection and asset marking. John is Director of Manpower & Export for the BSIA, with over 25 years experience in the industry, working in business development for Pointer Ltd and Connelly Security Systems. John is responsible for the security guarding sections of the BSIA and for all export relations. Simon Gardner SaferGems SImon is Manager of a major initiative against crime in the Jewellery, Antiques and Fine Art trades, hosted by the BSIA and funded by the retail jewellery industry through TH March Insurance Brokers and the National Association of Jewellers.
