1. Education as we emerge from the global pandemic. Message from the Executive Headmaster The British School of Bahrain has always aspired to ensure that no child had their education interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This was a strong motivating ethos for us over the last academic year. We are proud that we were the first school in Bahrain to offer full online learning and we continued to lead the way in our protocols and safety measures throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, which benefited all schools within the Kingdom of Bahrain. BSB has cemented its position as a beacon of excellence during these challenging times. Now, as we begin to emerge from the necessary regulations imposed to control the spread of the virus, we hope to resume a more normalised outstanding education provision. The physical and mental health of all members of the BSB community has always been our priority, and I am sure that staff, students and parents will be reassured by the measures BSB continues to implement to maintain a healthy and safe campus environment. Education is continuing and all BSB students are thriving. A BSB education is more than just the lessons that occur. It is the vibrancy of the school, the social interactions, the laughter and the relaxed learning environment in which all pupils can thrive. We are hopeful that the academic year 2021/22 will see a greater flexibility to allow the full holistic education to be resumed.
Message from the Head of Infants We look forward to children returning to school after the mid term break. Although the vast majority of children in the Infant School now learn on campus, we continue to offer Blended Learning in Key Stage 1 so that if for any reason a child needs to learn online for a short period of time, they are able to attend live teaching sessions online without a change of teacher. You can find a full explanation of Blended learning in the Infant School later in this document. Although the children have impressed us with their adaptability when learning online, we are in no doubt that the best learning outcomes are achieved when children are adhering to a routine. It is not advisable to switch from online to on campus and back again within a matter of days without good reason. Children in Nursery and Reception will continue learning either fully on campus or fully remotely five days a week.

Message from the Head of Juniors Passing the half-way point of the current academic year, we must continue to be vigilant and take sensible precautions as we move forward with the education of our students.. Children’s security and well-being remain the highest priorities at BSB. Accordingly, we shall continue with the same Blended Learning model that has been so successful up to now. Fully remote learning continues to be available to students who have to isolate, or whose parents wish them to remain at home. For students whose parents wish them to come into school, we shall maintain an appropriate level of social distancing in the classrooms, as per Ministry guidelines. A key strength of the blended model is that it allows students to switch between in-school and remote learning with no interruption to the continuity of their learning. BSB Junior students have shown themselves to be adaptable and resilient throughout the global situation that has influenced our operations for some time now. We all look forward very much to welcoming the children back into school after the half-term break. You can find a full explanation of Blended Learning in the Junior School later in this document.
Message from the Head of Seniors A very warm welcome to all returning and new families. I am incredibly proud of how admirably our students and staff continued to adapt over the last academic year in order to keep our community safe, but also learning effectively. Our recently published examination results are testament to this, showing that our students have thrived against the backdrop of this pandemic, and our graduating students are on their way to some of the top universities around the world to begin the next stage of their education. Health and safety remains our number one priority as we continue to develop our highly acclaimed blended learning provision to meet the latest guidelines for a safe learning environment. We will continue to offer a fully remote option for those families who wish, whilst accommodating our in school learners for the most days possible. In later sections, you will find further details on all aspects of our blended learning approach.

3. BSB’s BLENDED LEARNING EDUCATION Blended Learning The Ministry of Education has stipulated that all schools must adhere to the Ministry of Health’s social distancing regulations. These are dependent on what ‘colour’ of the national traffic light system is being implemented. The BSB classrooms’ size means that we can safely accommodate full classes within these rooms and ensure social distancing of over 1m is maintained. Due to this there will be no change in classroom layouts between Orange, Yellow and Green categories, because all allow full classes to attend.
Learning in the BSB Infant School
The routine of the school day is designed to best support children's learning in all areas of development. This includes a curriculum that provides for reading, writing, maths, topic, Arabic and specialist subjects. The School will continue to ensure that the learning environment is safe for the school community. Classroom space is optimised to ensure that children can interact while remaining socially distanced. Overview of the Learning Model in the BSB Infant School Nursery and Reception (Remote or on Campus) Children in Nursery and Reception will learn either fully in class or fully remotely. Children who are learning remotely are provided with Zoom links for live teaching. They will log on for short periods during the course of the day. Some lessons are individual, some paired and some in small groups. Learning is supplemented with resources and videos on the remote learning blog. Children in Nursery and Reception who have opted for on campus learning will be based in their class ‘bubble’ five days a week, adhering to current social distancing regulations set by the Ministries of Health and Education. Year 1 and Year 2 (The Blended Model) There is an increased number of children in Year 1 and Year 2 opting to learn on campus this academic year. Full classes can be accommodated, in the spacious Key Stage 1 classrooms. When children are learning remotely they are given a timetable with Zoom links so that they can access live-streamed lessons at specific times of the day. There will be two adults in each classroom so that children learning remotely and on campus are both fully supported. Follow up activities and resources are posted on the Infants’ Remote Learning Blog. Campus-based learning in the Infant School Based on current guidelines from the MoE, during their time at the BSB campus, students are based in a single classroom throughout the day, working in a class 'bio-bubble' which is separate from other class ‘bio-bubbles', but all within the broader Infant School Bio-Bubble. Lessons in school will focus on: ● English ● Mathematics A SAFE BSB CAMPUS HANDBOOK - update February 2022

Topic PSHE Arabic Specialist lessons
Assessment of progress During their classroom time, teachers assess children's progress, continuously and formatively, in order to identify and prioritise each child's next steps. This is communicated to the children during the school day and during live teaching sessions for remote learners. More formal assessments in reading, writing, maths and Arabic are completed at the end of each half term. Reporting progress to parents Parents of children in the Infant School receive two written reports per academic year, in December and June. Additionally, formal parent-teacher conferences take place in October and March. Parents are welcome to contact their child's teacher by e-mail at any time, should they require further information. Similarly, teachers will contact parents by e-mail should any issue arise regarding a child's progress. Pastoral support and assemblies In addition to class teachers and assistants providing pastoral care, as and when necessary during the school day, the leadership team and Infant School Counsellor are always available to both children and parents. If any parent wishes to arrange an additional Zoom meeting with their child’s class teacher to discuss their progress, please contact them via e-mail. Each Year Group has a weekly assembly on Zoom for those learning remotely and on campus. These focus on wellbeing or on particular values, but also foster a sense of belonging to a wider community. Technology Children working remotely access live lessons via Zoom, and additional resources are available on the BSB Infant School blog. Parents' Choice - Nursery and Reception Every half term a parent poll is sent to parents so that they can select either on-campus or remote learning. In these year groups, if a child switches from one mode of learning to another it is most likely that they will also change teachers. Whilst it is always possible to switch from on campus to remote learning, for example, if a period of quarantine is necessary, it is not always possible to switch from remote to on-campus learning at short notice. Parents should bear this in mind when completing the parent poll. Parents' Choice - Year 1 and Year 2 Once you have chosen a preferred mode of learning, we strongly recommend routine and consistency for your child, either remotely or in-school. A lot of change may negatively impact your child’s learning outcomes. If your child is learning on campus but needs to be at home, please email the class teacher with the quarantine request, so that you are provided with the necessary Zoom link. Although the Infant School Blended Learning model is very similar to the Junior School model, younger children will be sent a timetable with particular times to access live-streamed lessons of length appropriate for their age. Learning will also continue to be supported by the Remote Learning Blog.

Blended Learning in the BSB Junior School
Students’ needs must be met in various ways to ensure the best possible learning. Safety, security and a sense of belonging raise children’s self-esteem, giving them a basis for moving forward in their education. In an ideal world, these educational needs are best met in the classroom environment. In Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6), learning in the core subjects is driven forward by students’ interaction with their teachers. Research undertaken with Key Stage 2 students in the UK in 2014 found that classroom-based learning leads to: ● Greater engagement in learning; ● An improvement in attitude toward learning; ● An increase in learning outside of the physical classroom through online ‘classrooms’. Parents’ Choice Parents are asked to choose whether to send their child to school or keep them at home for online remote learning. School-based learning in the BSB Junior School Students in Years 3 to 6 will begin the second half of term based mainly in a single classroom throughout the day, working in a 'bio-bubble' based on MoE guidelines. We shall monitor the situation carefully over the coming days and, when we feel it is the right time to do so, we will reintroduce merging of students into sets for Arabic, Islamic Studies, RE, Citizenship and PSHE. When the time is right, we shall also reintroduce movement of Year 5 and 6 classes from room to room for their specialist subject lessons. Attending School Students in Years 3 to 6 who have selected Blended Learning will be offered five days per week in school. This is because our classrooms are spacious enough to accommodate everyone who wishes to attend school, while maintaining distancing as per Ministry guidelines. If any student who is learning remotely wishes to change to in-school learning, parents should contact pa2juniors@thebsbh.com. Students learning remotely will interact with their teachers online through Zoom live lessons and through Google Classroom assignments. Students should complete assignments promptly, as directed by their teachers. Those learning at home will have access to live streaming of lessons and assignments via Google Classroom. The day’s lessons will be posted each morning before school starts. Students will receive timely feedback on their assignments; this is also visible to their parents via Google Classroom. Students should bring their own pencil cases, as usual, to school each day. Classrooms and all parts of the school are thoroughly cleaned and sanitised every evening and every weekend. Assessment of progress During their time in school, students receive input from their teachers, along with feedback on how they are doing with their tasks and targets. Teachers assess the tasks to inform planning for subsequent lessons. A SAFE BSB CAMPUS HANDBOOK - update February 2022

Reporting progress to students Students receive feedback from their teachers on how they are doing. Teachers assess tasks completed in school to inform planning for future lessons. Assignments completed online are evaluated by teachers, with feedback given to students through Google Classroom, and via Zoom during lessons. Reporting progress to parents Parents of students in Years 3 to 6 receive two written reports per academic year, in December and June. Additionally, parent-teacher conferences take place in March/April. Parents are welcome to contact their child’s teacher by email at any time, should they require further information. Similarly, teachers will contact parents by email should any issue arise regarding a student’s progress. Pastoral support, including assemblies A critical element of BSB education is the pastoral support provided to students by their teacher during their time in school. Additionally, form teachers and counsellors are available for online meetings with students and parents, should the need arise. Assemblies will take place remotely, as online streams, while social distancing measures remain in place. Technology The Google Classroom learning platform is the backbone of our virtual learning provision in Years 3 to 6. For live streams, we use Zoom Premium. Students in Years 5 and 6 must bring their own devices to school each day - laptop or tablet - fully charged, please, ready for the day’s lessons. Students in Years 3 and 4 are encouraged to bring devices to school if their parents so wish. Devices will be connected securely to the school’s wi-fi and will be used for specific, directed activities supervised by teaching staff. Of course, when learning remotely at home, every student needs access to a device. Device requirements: ● ● ● ● ● ●
●
Sufficient battery power to last the entire day - 10 hours is recommended (please check the battery life before purchasing a new device) A fixed or detachable keyboard - an on-screen keyboard is not sufficient The ability to connect to the school WiFi Be portable and light enough for the student to carry A stylus is preferable to aid in writing and drawing diagrams. Operating Systems ○ Windows: 11, 10, 8, 7 ○ Mac: OS X 10.10 to 12.2 or later Device Memory ○ Minimum 4 GB
Assigning and submitting work via Google Classroom Students learning at home are expected to complete and submit their Google Classroom assignments promptly. Tasks are set by teachers each morning and explained via live streams (and during in-school lessons, as applicable). To help parents keep up to date with their child's assignments, we will be facilitating the addition of all parents as “guardians” using the available function on Google classroom. Please see this parent guide to how it works and what you can see. It will not give you grades or percentages; simply a weekly summary of what is assigned, what your child has completed and A SAFE BSB CAMPUS HANDBOOK - update February 2022

what they still need to complete.
Blended Learning in the BSB Senior School The Senior School’s blended learning approach sees students fully interacting and engaging in every lesson, whether physically in the classroom or connecting virtually from home. Carefully selected activities, resources and technology will allow students to interact with each other through zoom and google classroom to discuss, analyse, interpret and present information. Many elements of traditional teaching will continue to be evident through the use of technology. Parents' choice Parents are asked to choose whether to send their child to school or keep them at home for online remote learning. Those learning at home will have access to live streams of lessons and assignments via Google Classroom. The day's lessons will be posted each morning before school starts. Students will receive timely feedback on their assignments; this is also visible to their parents via Google Classroom. Regardless of students’ preference for face to face or online learning, they will be guided appropriately to ensure that they continue to make excellent progress. Attending school Students in Years 7-11, who have selected blended learning, may attend school for as many days of the week as dictated by capacity. In each class where the number of students opting for in-class learning exceeds the safe capacity of the room, a rotation system will be put in place, where each student may attend school for 3/4 days of the week but must connect remotely on the 4th/5th day. This will ensure that everyone can access their learning safely and equally. Students in sixth form may attend school every day of the week if they wish to. If any students on remote learning want to sign up for blended learning, they should contact pa2seniors@thebsbh.com to request this. The student will be added to a waiting list until the request can be safely accommodated. Students in Years 7-10 will be taught as a form class for core subjects, to minimise the contact between students. Students will be taught in specialist classrooms, moving safely between lessons by following the one way system and maintaining the required distance from other students. For MFL, Arabic, Citizenship, Islamic Studies, RE and optional subjects, students will be grouped and assigned to the appropriate lesson. For all Year groups, all classes will have a specific seating plan assigned by the teacher so that each student has their own desk that they use in each classroom. Sanitisation of desks and chairs will take place at the start and end of every lesson. All students will need to have their own equipment to use in school. Specialist subjects have procedures in place to ensure that students can access learning materials safely whilst enabling them to take part in the entire curriculum. Live lessons Every lesson will be live-streamed via Zoom, requiring students to connect via their school email account. All students will be expected to connect to this stream in each lesson, in order to interact with their peers within and outside the classroom. Significant sections of lessons will be recorded and uploaded to google classroom for students to access after the lessons. For each A SAFE BSB CAMPUS HANDBOOK - update February 2022

lesson, students must register via the shared link. Once approved by their teacher, a personal link will be emailed to the student directly, which should be saved for repeated use. Google calendar is the suggested method for students to save these links. Resources All resources used for lessons will be posted on google classroom along with lesson instructions and meeting links. Where possible, ebooks have been purchased as part of our move towards BYOD, which will ensure students have access to these even when not in School. Technology Students are expected to own their own laptop in the Senior School. Students should be using an appropriate device to access lessons and resources both remotely and in School. All devices must be fully charged before bringing them to school, and a charger brought to School so that it can be plugged in if required during the day. A mobile phone is not an appropriate device, as they are too small to work effectively from. Device requirements: ● Sufficient battery power to last the entire day - 10 hours is recommended (please check the battery life before purchasing a new device) ● A fixed or detachable keyboard - an on-screen keyboard is not sufficient ● The ability to connect to the school WiFi ● A 13” - 17” screen ● Be portable and light enough for the student to carry ● A stylus is preferable to aid in writing and drawing diagrams. ● Operating Systems ○ Windows: 10, 8, 7 ○ Mac: OS X 10.10 to 10.15 ● Device Memory ○ Minimum 4 GB Assigning and submitting work via Google Classroom This will continue to be the place for students to access everything they need for each subject and lesson. All resources used for lessons will be posted on google classroom along with lesson notes and meeting links. Where possible, ebooks have been purchased as part of our move towards BYOD, which will ensure students have access to these even when not in School. To keep up to date with their child's workload and completion of assignments, we will be facilitating the addition of all parents as “guardians” using the available function on google classroom. Please see this parent guide to how it works and what you can see. It will not give you grades or percentages, simply a weekly summary of what is assigned, completed and left to complete. Assessment of progress We will continue to run our cycle testing through methods that enable remote connection. Feedback will be provided through verbal and written means. Students will also be given opportunities to assess their own and others' work to develop their understanding further. Our systems will continue to provide our students with online assessments through a secure platform. Students should contact our IT team for any technical assistance they require, well before an assessment. Reporting progress to students during Blended Learning The key to the blended approach is feedback, to ensure all students’ knowledge of their own strengths and areas for development. Teachers will continue to provide timely, constructive A SAFE BSB CAMPUS HANDBOOK - update February 2022

feedback for all students, whether in school or virtual. Students will also be key contributors to their own progress, as our assessment criteria for all subjects in all years is transparent and enables students to track their own progress. The GCSE, A-Level and BTEC success criteria are freely available and will be provided to all students via google classroom, and they will be given guidance on interpreting it in relation to their own and others work; peer assessment is a crucial part of developing one's own understanding further. In Key Stage 3, our subject assessment rubrics were designed similarly, and are easy to access, single-page documents for teachers, students and parents to refer to at any time. Teachers will use a range of marking strategies, including live "group marking" sessions with whole classes or small groups, one to one feedback on specific pieces of work, and detailed feedback following all assessment work. This will include targets for improvement based on particular topics studied. Reporting progress to parents during Blended Learning Our normal reporting processes will continue throughout this academic year, where parents can expect a formal progress checkpoint once per term. In addition, teachers will maintain e-mail or telephone contact with parents should there be an additional need. Heads of Year will also play a vital role in monitoring students’ progress across all subjects, as well as pastorally, and will communicate with parents where they feel there is a need. Pastoral support, including assemblies All year group assemblies will take place virtually, using Zoom. These assemblies require students to sign in using their school email account to access the meeting. Each Year group (Year 7-11) will have an assembly once per week. Years 12 and 13 have arranged assemblies approximately every two weeks, during PSHE time. Form tutors will maintain communication with their class regularly, through daily form time. Heads of Year and their assistants will be on hand to support where necessary, alongside the senior leadership team. 6th Form If students in 6th Form do not have a lesson period 1 or period 2, they may arrive at school later, ready for their first lesson. They should arrive by 08:50 for period 2, and by 10am for period 3. At the end of the day, 6th Form students may also leave early if they have finished their lessons for the day. If their last lesson is period 4, they must leave by 13:15 at the latest. If their last lesson is period 5, they must leave by 14:15. In order to safely exit the campus, students should sign out and collect a leave pass from the Senior School PA and present it to reception.

4. BSB CAMPUS CLEANING Daily cleaning The cleaning of the BSB campus has always been of a very high standard; however, we have significantly increased the daily cleaning schedule during the COVID-19 pandemic. During the day, the Cleaning Assistants will clean and sanitise the following school areas in use: a. Bathrooms: at least four times a day (twice in the morning and twice in the afternoon). b. Classrooms: morning and afternoon. c. Doorknobs, handrails, elevator buttons constantly throughout the day d. Isolation room following every use. e. Bins will be emptied at a high frequency. f. Regular cleaning of high-frequency areas – floors, walls, touched surfaces. At the end of the school day, an external cleaning team will ensure the cleaning and sanitisation of all areas used (including the isolation room), in accordance with the recommendations of the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health. Each area has its own cleaning materials and bucket to prevent cross-contamination. Sanitisation within each classroom Each classroom will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitised every morning before lessons resume and at the end of each day. During the day, the classrooms will also be cleaned as much as possible when not occupied. Each teacher will be responsible for the cleanliness of the classroom that they are teaching in for that lesson. At the start of each lesson, the students will be provided with sanitising wipes to clean their desk and chair. The teacher will also clean commonly touched surfaces at the end of each lesson, e.g. doorknobs, light switches, the teacher's desk etc. BSB has always had a wall-mounted hand sanitising dispenser within each classroom. This will be maintained, and all teachers will insist that students use hand sanitiser at the start and end of every lesson. BSB has also installed over 30 wall mounted hand sanitisers within corridors. Wherever you are on the BSB campus, you are within 10m of a hand sanitising unit. Student Personal Protective Equipment All students will be expected to wear a face-covering when they arrive at the BSB Campus. Students must wear this face covering while they are processing through the Health Check gate. Students should not remove their face covering until they arrive at their classroom and are given permission from their teacher. The Ministry of Education has stipulated that all staff must wear a suitable face covering at all times when on the BSB campus and in the presence of others. All Year 5, Year 6 and Senior school students MUST wear a suitable face covering at all times.

For students in Nursery to Year 4, it is recommended to wear a face-covering; however, the Ministry of Education has not made it mandatory. All students must wear a face covering when arriving at school, when moving around the school and when leaving the school campus.
We recognise that face masks are not comfortable for younger students to wear and that many students in the Infant school would prefer a face screen.
During the regular school day, all students will wash their hands regularly while maintaining social distancing. Portable handwashing sinks are installed around the BSB campus, including playground areas, to ensure that all BSB students can wash hands easily while maintaining social distancing. Hand washing is the most effective way to prevent the spread of germs; however, should this be unavailable, a hand sanitiser is advised as an alternative. All BSB classrooms have always been equipped with hand sanitising dispensers that the students use during lessons and activities. Parents should be reassured that we not only have sufficient hand washing facilities within the School; we also have a significant number of hand-sanitising dispensers for students to use. PE Lessons For days when students have Physical Education, they will need to: ● ● ● ●
Come to school wearing a BSB PE kit because the Ministry of Education does not currently permit changing rooms to be open. Bring a spare mask to use during PE lessons. Bring disposable gloves/cotton gloves that can be washed. Bring additional water

5. BSB 'BIO-BUBBLES' Each BSB student has been assigned to one of four broad bio-bubbles to control the movement of students within the campus and promote social distancing. These bio-bubbles also determine each student’s entry and exit points while also identifying which temperature taking station the student will need to report to every morning before being permitted entry to the campus.
● Orange Bio-Bubble – Siblings which cut across several bubbles
These students can arrive together at the Main Entrance of Gate 4 Entrance or they can use the separate entrances for each of their schools.
● Blue Bio-Bubbles – Infant School - Infant School Entrance ● Green Bio-Bubbles – Junior School – Canteen Entrance ● Red Bio-Bubbles – Senior School – Main Entrance or Gate 4 Entrance
Each broad bio-bubble may be subdivided into smaller class size bio-bubbles to control and monitor students’ and teachers’ safe movement within the BSB campus. Each bio-bubble will have designated areas of the campus, and bio-bubbles will be designed to enable minimal contact between different bubbles.

The Al Liwan Drop Off System A drop-off zone system is in operation; Drop off Zone A will be sectioned off with portable barriers and red and white chains. Each drop off zone will be lined with portable barriers and patrolled by Security to ensure that no parent leaves their vehicle. Signs are put up on the wall to indicate the position along the wall of the car. It is imperative that parents do not leave their vehicle in the drop off zone otherwise this will block other parents and hold up the entire system. Parking is available nearby if parents wish to exit their vehicle. There will also be several ‘exit’ points from the drop off zones to allow parents to leave once they have deposited their child. Parents who wish to escort their child to the School must park outside of the drop off zones either on the school campus or in the designated parking areas of Al Liwan.

Parent Parking with the Pick-Up System Parents who do not wish to leave their car can enter the barriered off Pick-Up Zone A or park in the Pick up Zone B. The Pick-Up zone will be lined with portable barriers and patrolled by Security to ensure that no parent leaves their vehicle. There will also be several ‘exit’ points from the Pick-Up zones to allow parents to leave once they have collected their child. Some parents may want to park and then use the shops/cafes of the Al Liwan neighbourhood. Parents may also want to park and exit their vehicle to collect younger children from inside the BSB campus. We do not wish for this to block up the one-way system. We ask parents to only park in the designated parking areas.

Children in the Infant School are escorted (with social distancing) to and from their classroom by their parents/carers at the start and end of the day. Outdoor play times will take place in class ’bubbles’.
Junior School Students in Years 3 to 6 will begin the second half of term based mainly in a single classroom throughout the day, working in a 'bio-bubble' based on MoE guidelines. From Sunday 27th February. students in Years 3 to 6 will be allowed to play outdoors, in the basketball court and shaded area, at their two daily break times. Students may use the canteen at their year group’s scheduled break time, if their parents wish them to.
Senior School Senior school students will follow their regular timetable for lessons, including rooms. Safe movement around the School will be facilitated through: ● ● ● ● ● ●
One way movement of students through the school corridors Supervised lesson transitions in all corridors Years 7 - 10 are being taught as tutor groups for the majority of lessons. Students will take part in socially distanced sports and activities that adhere to the national traffic light rules. Masks are to be worn at all times unless taking part in vigorous exercise. Sports that cannot adhere to social distancing guidelines will be avoided such as football and basketball initially. Students will arrive at school wearing their PE kit on the day they have a PE lesson and changing rooms will not be used.
Swimming ●
Swimming lessons will be taught and the school will follow the national traffic light rules for swimming pools e.g. in Orange Level swimming is not allowed
Extra-curricular sport and fixtures (Under Green Level only) ●
● ●
● ●
Students can take part in after school, on-site extra-curricular sport providing parental consent has been received. There may be restrictions based on the national traffic light system e.g. a field trip to an indoor pool would not be possible under ‘orange’. Extra-curricular activities and sport will be introduced gradually during the course of the Autumn Term. Students can take part in after school sporting fixtures against other schools that are in the Bahrain Private School Sports League provided that parental consent has been received. Any fixture played against another school in the Bahrain Private School Sports League will adhere to the national traffic light regulations. Sports fixtures played against other schools must follow the national traffic light system e.g. invasion games such as football will not be permitted due to lack of social distancing measures.

18. BREAKTIMES & PLAYTIME Social interaction is a crucial part of education but, during this time, it is essential to maintain a balance of socialising and safety. Playtime and social interaction is especially important for students in the Infant School and we will ensure that these students are able to play safely with their friends inside their bio-bubble. The school has established a safe environment in which students can interact with one another. Multiple break times will be introduced to ensure fewer students are within playgrounds and halls at any one time.
Prayer rooms ●
All prayer rooms will continue to remain closed, as per Ministry of Education regulations.
Playgrounds ● ● ●
Students will need to maintain social distancing as much as possible during playtime, even though the fresh air significantly reduces the chance of virus transmission. All break times will be actively monitored by teachers to ensure safety and social distancing is maintained. Play equipment, such as balls (e.g. footballs and basketballs), will not be available and cannot be brought from home.
Infant School playtime ● ●
●
Children will only play in their class or year group ‘bio-bubbles’. The provision of toys is carefully monitored. Plastic and non-porous toys will be available because these will be disinfected after use. At break times, children will eat and drink inside their bio-bubble in their classroom. All food and drink, including a water bottle, must be brought from home. Water coolers will be available to replenish water bottles. The school is trying to reduce its environmental footprint so plastic/paper cups will not be provided; students should bring a water bottle from home.
Junior School break times ●
●
The school will operate break times on the playground as long as we believe it is safe to do so. Every classroom has posters depicting safe standing and stretching exercises which can be done in the classroom, between lessons, while maintaining social distancing.
Senior School break times ● ● ●
●
The school will operate break times outside if we believe it is safe to do so. All food and drink, including a water bottle, must be brought from home, unless students are able to use the canteen. Water coolers will be available to replenish water bottles. The school is trying to reduce its environmental footprint so plastic/paper cups will not be provided; students should bring a water bottle from home. 6th form students may use the cafe.
Toilet and sanitisers breaks ● ● ● ●
Students should use bathrooms at break times where possible. All staff and students will wash their hands thoroughly having used the toilet facilities. Hand sanitisers should be used upon entry and exit of the bathrooms. All toilets will be regularly cleaned throughout the day.

●
●
●
●
The BSB Cafe is available for staff, parents and 6th form students for takeaway only. The BSB Canteen is available for certain year groups as per a published schedule. All students must bring a packed lunch with them and any snacks needed throughout the day if they are not able to use the canteen. A water bottle must be brought from home. Water coolers will be available to replenish water bottles. The school is trying to reduce its environmental footprint so plastic/paper cups will not be provided; students should bring a water bottle from home. For most students snacks and lunch will occur in each bio-bubble's classroom, where all the hard surfaces will be cleaned and sanitised beforehand. All students will be sent individually to wash their hands thoroughly before eating any food.
The BSB Canteen ● ●
●
● ●
●
The BSB Canteen will be open for specific year groups every day as per a published timetable. Students may purchase fresh food at a reasonable price and also save the daily burden on parents to make packed lunches. Purchasing food at school will also lighten already heavy bags which are brought to school every day. When the BSB Canteen is open, we operate a pre-order and collection service for Junior and Senior School students. The aim is for students and staff using the BSB Canteen to order food in advance and collect it during their allocated slot. This will ensure that all students are only in the BSB Canteen for less than 15 minutes and will allow a rapid transition. Students / parents may order food up to 7 days in advance. The School and its excellent caterers, have established a cashless payment system which removes the need for any transfer of cash. This has been established to increase the safety of transactions at this time and will be used in the future to prevent the need for students to carry cash in school. It will also significantly speed up the purchasing of food. Rota system - to preserve the BSB bio-bubbles, we will be initially operating a year group rota system. Each year group will be given two times during the week to access the BSB Canteen for pre-ordered food. We will monitor this closely and will hopefully add in additional slots as the system proves to be safe and secure.

STAGE 3: Return to school Students & staff can only return to school once they have proven that they are no longer positive for COVID-19. This may mean that families need to source a private PCR test at the end of their isolation. Information ● ● ● ● ●
A school-wide communication of new cases is not advisable because it would allow individual children to be identified. Any identification of an individual would be a breach of confidentiality; this is not acceptable, especially with a minor. The School will attempt to keep all parents as informed of the broader situation as possible and provide an overview of cases and protocols. All information provided to the School will be kept strictly confidential. The School will only inform those at risk (‘Close Contacts’) or those who have had their risk increased.
Integration ● ● ● ●
● ● ● ●
Individuality and support for individuals is a vital part of the BSB ethos. The return of children to the School will be an essential part of our community's handling of a COVID-19 case. All children who test negative, are symptom-free, and have felt well for 48 hours, will then be able to return to school. There is no embarrassment or shame about contracting COVID-19. The BSB Community must recognise that it is an indiscriminate virus, and we should all seek to support those who are less fortunate than ourselves. Empathy and learning from others is a core value of BSB. The School will ensure that all children are reintegrated and that there are no negative implications of being in contact with COVID-19. The School will attempt to normalise the 'recovery and reintegration process so that children can resume their lives seamlessly. Any adverse treatment of an individual will be considered a serious offence and will be handled under the BSB Anti-bullying policy.
In-school support ● Key Pastoral staff will be available to support any child who is impacted by the COVID-19 situation. ● Form/Class teachers are readily available to support individuals. ● Should any student want additional support, the School employs three excellent Counsellors: - Mrs Maryam Rashid – rashidm@thebsbh.com - Ms Shanaz Mukhtar - mukhtars@thebsbh.com - Mrs Kathy Guyon - guyonk@thebsbh.com ● PSHE Lessons and weekly assemblies will focus on developing resilience, coping with the COVID-19 situation and aspects of reintegration.

23. BSB PROCEDURES FOR DIFFERENT TRAFFIC LIGHT STATUSES BSB Whole School The British School of Bahrain will make various adjustments to its provision based on the Traffic Light Category decreed by the Ministry of Health. If there is an increased risk in certain aspects of the school, this Traffic Light might be adjusted as follows: 1. The Whole School moves to a different Traffic Light than the country to reduce any identified risk. 2. A section of the school, e.g. Seniors, moves to a different Traffic Light category than the rest of the school due to an identified risk in that part of the school. 3. A specific year group moves to a different Traffic Light category due to an identified risk in that part of the school. Status Summary

27. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS We have provided a series of answers to frequently asked questions for parents’ ease and reassurance. Q: Is Remote Learning still continuing or are all children now expected to come to School? A: BSB’s remote learning provision is still continuing unaffected for all children who have opted for this education method. Many children remain abroad and require remote learning to continue. Q: I am a bit confused by the changes to the start times and how it affects ‘drop-off’? A: Drop off times have not changed throughout the entire school. All children in Juniors, Seniors and their siblings in Infants can be dropped off from 0700 every morning. If you have children only in the Infant School, please drop off between 0745 and 0800, to avoid congestion. Nursery (Infants) Drop off from: 0700 Lessons start: 0800 Reception (Infants) Drop off from: 0700 Lessons start: 0800 KS1 - Year 1 & Year 2 (Infants) Drop off from: 0700 Lessons start: 0800 KS2 - Years 3 - 6 (Juniors) Drop off from: 0700 Lessons start: 0800 KS3, KS4, KS5 - Years 7-13 (Seniors) Drop off from: 0700 Lessons start: 0800

Q: My children travel by BSB Bus Transportation. Is it possible for the Infant School child to wait for the later buses and travel with their siblings at the end of the day? A: BSB has put on three bus transportation timings for parents: Nursery buses depart: 1230 Reception buses depart: 1400 Key Stage 1, Junior & Senior School buses depart: 1455 Q: I have three children, one in Infants, one in Juniors and one in Seniors. They do not travel by the BSB Bus Transportation service. Can I collect all three children at the same time? A: It is not possible to have holding rooms for children in Infants this term due to the necessity of preserving class bubbles. Children in Year 1 and Year 2 should be collected first from their classrooms at 1430, then students in Juniors and Seniors can be collected from the Juniors/Seniors pick up area at their finish times. Children in Nursery and Reception should be collected separately from their siblings in Juniors and Seniors. Q: An elderly member of my family has come to live with us. Can I move my child from on-campus learning to remote learning immediately? A SAFE BSB CAMPUS HANDBOOK - update February 2022

A: Yes, in line with Ministry of Education requirements, it is possible to move children to remote learning upon request. Q: My child, who studies on campus, will be off sick for three days. Will he/she be assigned a virtual teacher for these days? A: BSB operates a ‘zero symptom’ campus. If any child is ill in any way, they must stay at home. If a child needs to be given Calpol or medicine in the morning, then they are too ill to come to school. If there is any question about whether a child should come to school, the answer should be ‘no’. This protects everyone from all illnesses, not just COVID-19. Infants: If an Infant child is sick, their speedy recovery is of paramount importance, and rest should be taken. However, if a child is recuperating, resources are available on the Infant School Remote Learning blog. It is not necessary for them to be assigned to a remote learning class teacher. If a child has to quarantine for a 10-day period as required by the Ministry of Health, they will learn remotely with their class teacher in Key Stage 1, or a dedicated remote teacher in EYFS, via Zoom. Juniors & Seniors: Children who are unwell can simply work remotely until they are well enough to come into school. All lessons are streamed live, and children can continue to interact with their peers and their teachers. Q: Will it still be possible to ‘drop and go’ and ‘stop and collect’ at the Infant School drive-through? A:The Infants’ drive-through is no longer in operation now that sufficient parking is available at the Al Liwan neighbourhood. Q: Can we access the School through Gate 5? A: Gate 5 will remain open until the new Al Liwan neighbourhood is completed. At this point the mall has kindly given BSB the use of 300 parking spaces outside Gate 4 for parent use. As soon as the new mall is open, Gate 5 will be closed, and parents asked to use the parking in the mall and Gate 4. Q: Does my child still need to bring in a packed lunch and water? A: Children should bring a packed lunch and water. Water dispensers are available on campus to replenish water bottles. The BSB Canteen will begin to be opened for student use. At present, it will be only one-year group bubble using it at any given time. Students will only be able to use the Canteen to collect pre-ordered food, and payment will be through cashless methods.
