PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE • MAIN COMMITTEE 2025/2026

Dear Members, I am pleased to share some positive news regarding Club subscriptions. The last adjustment to subscriptions took effect on 1st August 2024. As part of the Committee’s ongoing commitment to prudent financial management, we conduct this exercise annually and have recently completed a thorough review of the Club’s operating costs, financial position, and future requirements. After careful consideration, the Committee has decided not to increase Roger Harrold President

subscription fees this year. Your current subscription rates will therefore remain unchanged.

Like many organisations, the Club continues to face the challenges of inflation and rising operating costs across a range of areas. However, we recognise the importance of delivering value to our members and have therefore focused on continuing operating improvements. We have also gone through an exercise to redefine operations and staff deployment, with the aim of finding a more efficient balance between service delivery and expense. We hope this decision demonstrates our commitment to supporting our membership while continuing to maintain the high standards, facilities, services, and experiences that make The British Club such a special community. On behalf of the Committee, I would like to thank you for your continued loyalty, support, and engagement with the Club. Your ongoing commitment enables us to invest in the future of the Club while preserving the welcoming environment that we all enjoy. We look forward to sharing another enjoyable year with you and your families.

GM’S MESSAGE • CLUB MANAGEMENT

From the General Manager As I look back on July, I want to personally thank everyone who helped make it such a special time at the Club. There was a wonderful energy around the place throughout the month, and it was a real pleasure to see so many members, families and guests enjoying everything the Club has to offer.

Tee Bale, General Manager

One of the standout moments for me was our first five week Summer Camp programme. It was a huge success for the Club, and each day brought the lovely sight of happy, smiling children taking part in the activities, making new friends and creating memories. My thanks go to all the families who supported the programme, and to the team who worked so hard behind the scenes to make it such a positive experience.

I hope you will find plenty of opportunities to come along, spend time with family and friends, and make the most of the Club atmosphere. Chef Sunny and his kitchen team have also been busy developing a range of new promotional dishes, and I hope you will try a few of them during your next visits. It is always good to see fresh ideas coming through from the kitchen, and I know the team will be pleased to hear your feedback. For our younger members, BC Kids Club returns every Saturday and Sunday, with Bell leading the way. Please do remember to register in advance, as we want as many children as possible to enjoy the weekend activities in a fun and well organised setting. Finally, to all our members who have been travelling over the summer period, welcome back. I hope you had a pleasant and restful holiday break, and I look forward to seeing many of you around the Club in September. SEP 2026 3

A Scoop of Inspiration: Bringing Artisan Gelato to the Club

Executive Chef Sunny completes intensive Carpigiani gelato training

Members can look forward to a new wave of handcrafted gelato at the Club, following our Executive Chef’s recent five-day professional training programme with Carpigiani at Sunrise. The course provided a detailed introduction to the science, skill and creativity behind authentic gelato production, combining classroom learning with hands on work using commercial gelato equipment. Over the course of the programme, Chef explored the fundamentals of gelato technique, including flavour balancing, milk based and water-based recipes, texture control, base preparation and recipe formulation. The training also covered recipe compensation, anti-freezing sugar calculations, gelato consumption styles, and the creation of moulded desserts such as gelato cakes and popsicles. “I am now a Certified Gelato Maestro, and probably able to churn out at least 30 flavours. I cannot wait to set up gelato production at the Club.” One of the highlights of the course was the opportunity to work directly with Carpigiani commercial machines, gaining practical experience in producing gelato to a professional standard. The desserts created during the training demonstrate the variety, colour and presentation possibilities that could soon become part of the Club’s dining experience. This investment in culinary development supports our continued focus on quality, freshness and member enjoyment. With new knowledge, new techniques and renewed inspiration, Chef is preparing to bring a broader range of freshly made gelato to the Club, with the potential for seasonal flavours, plated desserts, gelato cakes and family friendly treats. From classic favourites to more adventurous creations, the future looks deliciously cool. Members should watch this space as the Club prepares to introduce its own artisan gelato offering. 8 SEP 2026

Experience the Future of Personal Fitness Technogym Checkup pre-trial in the Club Gym, 11th to 18th September

Members are invited to take part in a special pre-trial of the Technogym Checkup, an AI powered assessment station designed to provide a clearer, more personalised understanding of your fitness, movement and overall wellness profile. The trial will take place in the Club Gym from Friday, 11th September to Friday, 18th September. During the trial period, members will be shown how to use the machine and will have the opportunity to complete their own AI body scan. The session is intended to be simple, informative and suitable for members at different stages of their fitness journey, whether you are returning to exercise, building a routine or looking for more precise guidance. What the Technogym Checkup can do The Technogym Checkup brings together a range of digital assessments in one station. It can support body composition analysis, posture and mobility review through 3D scanning, balance and movement checks, and selected cardio and strength insights when used with compatible Technogym equipment. It also produces a Wellness Age™, giving members an easy-to-understand indicator based on real performance measures rather than guesswork. By using AI and the Technogym Ecosystem, the Checkup can help shape more personalised training recommendations and track progress over time. The aim is to make fitness assessments more consistent, practical and useful, giving both members and our fitness team better information to guide training safely and effectively. What members can expect • Guidance from the gym team on how the Checkup works. • An opportunity to complete your own AI body scan during the trial window. • A better understanding of key fitness indicators, including composition, mobility, balance and movement quality. • An introduction to how future Technogym technology will support more personalised training at the Club. Part of our full gym refit This pre-trial is an early opportunity for members to experience the technology ahead of the complete Technogym gym refit scheduled for December. Once the refit is complete, the Technogym Checkup will become a full-time feature of the Club Gym, forming part of a more modern, connected and member focused fitness experience. SEP 2026 9

Development Updates COOLER, SMARTER, GREENER

Building a more sustainable Club, while creating greater value for our members At The British Club, sustainability is about using resources smarter while continuing to provide the comfort, facilities and experiences our members enjoy. Many of our favourite venues, including Scores and the Verandah, already make the most of shaded outdoor spaces. For our indoor facilities, we are taking a different approach — investing in more efficient technology to reduce energy consumption without compromising member comfort. A Significant Reduction in Energy Use Our chiller upgrade is delivering a measurable impact. Chiller electricity consumption has fallen from 790,135 kWh in FY23/24 to 359,632 kWh in FY25/26.

55% Reduction in energy consumption |

430,503 kWh Electricity saved |

~35,875 kWh Average monthly saving

This annual reduction is equivalent to the average monthly electricity consumption of approximately 97 four-room HDB households, providing a relatable perspective on the scale of the Club’s energy savings. Good for the Environment. Good for Members. Using less energy helps reduce the environmental impact of our operations. But sustainability is also about what we can do with the resources we save. Greater operational efficiency creates opportunities for the Club to reinvest in the facilities and improvements that matter to our members. Over the past year, the Club has continued to invest in refurbishments, facility upgrades and improvements to member spaces, helping to enhance comfort, functionality and the overall Club experience. Our goal is simple: Save where we can. Invest where it matters. Improve what our members value. Sustainability is a journey, and every improvement counts. By combining smarter technology, efficient operations and thoughtful use of our spaces, we are working towards a Club that is more sustainable, more efficient and better equipped for the future. LESS ENERGY. LOWER IMPACT. MORE VALUE FOR OUR MEMBERS. Figures based on the Club’s chiller consumption data for FY23/24 to FY25/26. HDB comparison is an illustrative equivalency intended to provide context.

In Good Company: Celebrating the Year of the Horse with EQUAL By Natasha Garcha, member of the Club since August, 2025

In the Year of the Horse, The British Club is continuing the celebrations with two special opportunities to meet these remarkable animals and learn more about EQUAL, one of the charities we are proud to support.

When Horses Become Teachers Founded in 2011, EQUAL uses Equine-Assisted Learning to support children and youth, persons with special needs, families and seniors. Through activities such as grooming, leading and completing tasks with horses, participants develop confidence, empathy, emotional regulation and communication skills. Sensitive to body language, mood and boundaries, horses respond honestly and without judgement, making them powerful yet gentle teachers.

Two Chances to Meet the Herd 13th September: Miniature Horses at Our Charity Car Wash Meet EQUAL’s friendly miniature horses while supporting our Charity Car Wash. Members can interact with the horses, learn about their work and discover how they help EQUAL’s beneficiaries. 10th October: A Visit to the EQUAL Stables Members can also visit EQUAL’s stables to meet its larger horses and experience the connection at the heart of EquineAssisted Learning. Places will be open to all Members, with special invitations extended to supporters of the Charity Car Wash. These experiences offer Members and their families a chance to look beyond the donation, meet the animals behind EQUAL’s programmes and better understand the meaningful work their support makes possible. Booking details for both events will be shared shortly. 18 SEP 2026

FROM RETIREMENT TO TAX BILL THE NEW FATE OF UNUSED PENSION FUNDS On the 30th of October 2024, the previous UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves stood up to deliver her first budget and the first labour budget since 2010 and the first female Chancellor*.

after their 75th birthday. The rate which applies in this case is the marginal UK income tax rate which would mean an additional rate tax payer who is the nominated beneficiary of a pension scheme will pay a potential 45% tax rate if they receive pension benefits in a single lump sum.

The budget confirmed tax rises worth over GBP40 billion which was the largest increase in tax in a UK budget for 31 years*.

If we apply this to the original GBP500K, it would leave GBP165K for the nominated pension beneficiary after inheritance tax and income tax have been paid based on the assumptions we have used here. This will change of course based on the beneficiaries tax position.

There were many tax aspects to unpack but one which stood out for my profession was the substantive changes to UK pension taxation. In April 2027 most unused UK pension benefits will form part of an individual’s inheritance taxable estate. If we focus on defined contribution pension schemes this means values will be added to all of the other assets an individual holds which are subject to IHT with the net effect of a potential 40p per GBP1 of tax on the pension value prior to the personal representatives (executors) passing the value to beneficiaries. A GBP500K pension for instance, which would have been passed in full to beneficiaries will from the 6th of April 2027 (for members passing away on or after this date) have a potential tax charge of GBP200K, leaving GBP300K for beneficiaries. In addition to this there was no change to the existing income tax exposure which applies on beneficiaries when they draw benefits if the original pension member passed away Singapore + (65)6225 0825

info-sg@theprogenygroup.com

Residence Nil Rate Band One further impact I will mention is the influence on the GBP2M threshold above which the inheritance tax free sum which is called the Residence Nil Rate Band will begin to taper**. There are two nil rate bands in the UK with the first being the Nil Rate Band of GBP325K which has remained unchanged in value since April 2009 (over 17 years ago at the time of writing). The Residence Nil Rate Band of GBP175K was progressively launched in 2017 and fully available at the GBP175K rate from 2020**. If an inheritance tax exposed estate exceeds GBP2M the estate will lose GBP1 for every GBP2 above this threshold.

Progeny (SG) Pte. Ltd. (company no: 201506546H) is registered in Singapore. It is authorised to act as a financial adviser by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) under licence no FA100057.

This means an estate with IHT exposed assets of GBP2.35M will have a potential tax exposure of GBP140K compared to the potential GBP0 at GBP2M if the estate had the full nil rate bands available.

The Government has announced guidance will be released in spring of 2027 and we will follow up with more detail once this is available.

What can you do now?

Find out more here:

There is some good news however as the changes will not take effect until the 6th of April 2027 which provides some time for planning so what can you do now? In summary you may consider some of the following: It is important to make sure your Wills and nominated beneficiaries for your pensions are fully up to date and you have sought advice on this matter. You may wish to revisit your income drawdown approach and may consider refocusing income drawdown on your pension rather than non-pension assets.

ASHLEY JONES

Financial Planner, Progeny (Singapore)

If your intention is to increase your pension funds with further contributions you might decide to revisit this plan and review alternatives.

For long-term non-UK residents, transferring a UK pension to a QROPS shifts the asset’s legal location outside the UK, potentially shielding the funds from a 40% UK IHT charge. There are many considerations to such a transfer and specialist advice will likely be required.***

THE RIGHT SCHOOL CHANGES EVERYTHING Choosing a school is one of those decisions that can feel overwhelming. It’s not just about exam results, impressive facilities or a brand name. The right school, or rather right kind of school, is where a child will thrive and grow – academically, emotionally, socially – in every possible way. Consulting league tables, reading websites, and visiting schools are certainly a starting point, but they rarely tell you everything. What works for one child might not be the right place for another. Parents know their child better than anyone and to figure out if a specific school is a good fit takes time and digging below the surface. Please look past the big names and ask deeper questions like: “What teaching style actually makes my child feel confident? Would they do better in a large, busy school or a smaller, more nurturing community? Do they need academic stretch, pastoral support, specialist provision, creative freedom, or lots of sports?” The right academic environment should push a child without crushing them. If they’re always struggling, they’ll lose confidence. If they’re not challenged enough, they might just tune out. Finding that sweet spot is key. Good schools don’t just churn out good exam results. They help pupils understand how they learn, how to think for themselves, and how to bounce back when things get tough. Culture matters just as much. Every school has its own vibe, values, and daily rhythm. Some are traditional and formal, with an emphasis on heritage, and discipline. Others are more alternative or creative in their approach. Some thrive on competition — academic, athletic, or musical. Others focus more on collaboration and personal growth. 26 SEP 2026

A child’s interests should matter a lot too. School is where talents get discovered and passions develop. If a child loves music, drama, sports, art, science, design, tech, or outdoor stuff, they should be somewhere those interests are genuinely supported, not just listed in a brochure. The best fit often happens when a school’s strengths line up with what a child is naturally enthusiastic about. One practical way for parents to do their research is to attend a curated school show like BESSA. It’s designed for families exploring schools and summer camps in the UK, offering them the unique opportunity to meet Admission Directors 1-to-1, hear from education experts, and ask questions specific to their child’s needs. Instead of just relying on websites or word of mouth, parents can compare schools in person and get a clearer sense of each school’s ethos, strengths, and suitability. The right school can be transformative. It can unlock confidence in a child who’s been overlooked, provide direction to one who is a bit unmotivated, stretch one who is ready for a challenge, or give stability for one who needs support. When parents take the time to research carefully, ask the right questions, and seek informed advice, they give their child the best shot at finding that place. And when families find that fit, everything changes.

An Ambitious Education for Athletes

Through participation, training and competition, students learn to challenge themselves, work together and respond to setbacks with determination.

A

t NLCS (Singapore), sport is an essential part of developing confident, disciplined and resilient young people.

A Wide Range of Opportunities

It builds more than physical ability, fostering teamwork, perseverance and respect while teaching students to support one another, take responsibility and keep moving forward. From the first time they try something new to the moment they represent the school, we give every student the opportunity to discover what they enjoy, grow their skills and pursue excellence in their own way.

Students can choose from a broad programme of team and individual sports across the year, including: Football | Basketball | Netball Swimming | Tennis | Athletics | Cricket Badminton | Cross Country | Golf Gymnastics | and more.

Train. Play. Compete. Regular training, inter-school fixtures and championships through ACSIS and FOBISIA provide students with the chance to put their preparation into practice in a supportive and competitive environment.

Sport is not simply about winning. It is where students learn to challenge themselves, support one another and discover what they are capable of. Billy Molloy, Director of Sports

PICKLEBALL

Red & White Dink-Off By PJ Enriquez, Member of the Club since April, 2023

The Section celebrated National Day in style with our inaugural Red and White Dink-Off. More than 20 players turned up in their finest red and white outfits, taking over Courts 3 and 4 for an evening of dinks, drives, laughs and plenty of sweat — all while enjoying the National Day fireworks on the big screen above. And, of course, no pickleball night is complete without a third set at Scores, where we wrapped up the evening with drinks, good food and even better memories. A huge thank you to Aneetha Vine, our Socials Director, for putting together such a fantastic evening. 46 SEP 2026

SQUASH

SPORTS & FITNESS

Social Squash at The British Club By Andrew Marshall, Member of the Club since January, 2003

Every Monday and Wednesday evening from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and every Saturday afternoon from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, our BC squash fraternity gathers to enjoy friendly games together. These sessions make it easy to play against a wide variety of players—from old (our oldest player is 74!) to young, experienced to beginner, and fast to slow. It really does not matter, as the whole idea is to enjoy a good workout and have some fun! Our four excellent courts are always full during these sessions. This is one of the main reasons for the success of our Squash Section, as many other clubs have fewer courts, resulting in longer waiting times. While waiting for our turn, as eight warriors do battle on the courts, we encourage one another—and often laugh at our attempts to become “the next Jonah Barrington”! After an hour for me, and often nearly two hours for our fitter members, we head to our magnificent Scores Bar. There, we are treated to wonderful service and plenty of cool, refreshing beer to replace all those lost calories! As we put the world to rights, we are often fortunate enough to spot some of the wildlife that calls The British Club’s forested surroundings home. What a wonderful world! All British Club Squash Section members are welcome to join us. We now have a very easy-to-use app that makes joining these sessions a breeze—even for oldies like this writer! Come on down!
