Brighton Opens
& Families for 50 Years 50 years ago, no one believed that children born with disabilities could accomplish anything; except for their parents and a few members of our community. Those parents and community members believed enough to start Brighton Center. The day they opened those doors, the San Antonio community was changed forever for the better. I don’t think they could have imagined that 50 years later that idea they had to educate their children would become a beacon of light for over 3,500 children with disabilities and their parents every year. I don’t think they could have imagined the comprehensive therapy and early intervention, two accredited preschool centers, a group of advocates ensuring that every child can be successful in school and an 8-acre campus growing to add therapy for older children, summer and after-school services. But they should have because they were right to believe in the gifts of every child. And for the past 50 years, Brighton has been a part of helping shine a light on the gifts of every child in the San Antonio community. Maybe they did know….after all they named the organization Brighton 50 years ago and its light is still shining bright today! Brighton would not have been able to accomplish so much without your support. Thank you for believing in our kids too and for investing in a bright future for more than 40,000 children over the years!

1969 Charity Ball donates home in Monte Vista area to Brighton School to provide education for children with disabilities.
1979 “Up with Downs” restructures Brighton School to be a therapy focused center, specifically for children with Down syndrome.

Brighton opens a preschool program for children with and without disabilities.
1983
Brighton begins contracting with the State of Texas for Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) to provide speech, occupational, physical therapy and other developmental services to children with disabilities & delays throughout Bexar County.
Brighton launches parent programs to ensure parents have the knowledge needed to raise and advocate for their child with a disability.
2014
Brighton renovates original location in Monte Vista to become a 2nd preschool location and to office to their education advocacy team.
2019
Brighton begins capital campaign to renovate NE campus facilities and add onsite therapy services, expand preschool and provide after school and summer tutoring for kids with disabilities and delays.

Brighton has grown considerably since its inception from only a handful of kids receiving services to now services in San Antonio, Brighton has raised $7,750,000 to improve their facilities and expand their service onsite therapy, early childhood education, summer and after school specialized skill tutoring and educatio model in San Antonio of the right help at the right time for children with disabilities and delays will be the programming to begin as soon as construction is completed.
