Out With the Old and In With the New By Lilly Soler and Sophia Miller
“Fish On!” We would say when someone caught a fish. The week of the ninth, senior camp went fly fishing down by the golf course with Jock Miller. Mr. Miller taught us how to fly fish. We started by reintroducing the trout to the stream. We moved rainbow trout and brook trout to a new habitat. While they were adjusting to their new home, Mr. Miller taught us about fly fishing. Fly fishing is a way of fishing with a rod and a wet or dry artificial fly on the end of your rod. We practiced by casting into the stream. Once we got familiar with the sport we started fishing on our own in groups of two. Some people caught fish and would say “Fish on!” After this everyone would rush over with nets and help get fish out of the water. After fighting the fish we would keep it or put it back in its home. We all had so much fun and couldn’t wait for tomorrow. The next day we did some more fishing and learned even more techniques. So many people caught fish and had tons of fun playing in the stream.
This summer senior camp has shown a great improvement from the previous years. Now you can pick many different options, and try new things that you may like. Senior camp now allows you to participate in tennis, golf, sports, and activities. After we usually do a counselor activity such as kick ball, hares and hounds, and games the counselors come up with. I think camp allows you to be independent and make your own choices.
