MERIT AWARDS Established in 1981, the Merit Award is designed to recognize AJSA members who not only excel in breeding, raising and promoting Simmental or Simbrah cattle but are also active in civic, community, family and school activities. The American Simmental/Simbrah Foundation offers three levels of Merit Award: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Bronze Merit recipients are recognized with a pin and certificate, and Silver and Gold Merit are awarded scholarship dollars. In 2022, more than $40,000 is being awarded to seventeen AJSA members - twelve Silver and five Gold Merit Award winners - to help them continue their postsecondary educational endeavors.

HERDSMAN OF THE YEAR The AJSA Herdsman of the Year award is an honor bestowed upon one AJSA member at the National Classic each summer. The award is intended for an individual who gracefully commands the respect of both juniors and adults in the SimGenetics industry and upholds the honor and dignity of a future cattleman. This person's pride in his or her cattle, both in the show ring and at home, is evident to fellow members and breeders across the Simmental and Simbrah industry.
