National Professional Qualification for Headteachers (NPQH)
LDE TSH runs NPQs for hundreds of participants each year.
This week, we held an NPQH session for Headteachers at Cleves Primary School.
The course is facilitated by Craig Lilleyman and Anthony Henry, the Headteacher of an outstanding secondary school - Redden Court School in Havering
Early Career Teacher Conferences at Excel
This week, we are also holding conferences for Year 2 ECTs at Excel London. We will host 100 ECTs each day for 4 days. The LDE team decamps to Excel for the week. It is wonderful working with all of the new teachers from around London on their personal and professional development. The LDE Team are all trained Visiting Fellows of Ambition Institute and lead the training.
Originally, the London District East Teaching School Hub was designated to work with the 252 schools in Barking & Dagenham, Havering and Newham - and we work with 95% of schools from our original areas
But, we also now welcome schools to our programmes from over 300 schools, including schools in:
Tower Hamlets
Hackney
Waltham
Forest
Redbridge
Thurrock
Essex - mainly Harlow
Greenwich
Islington
Regional Mentor Training for Early Career Teacher Mentors
Following the successful week of Early Career Teacher (ECT) conferences at Excel last week, we followed with conferences for all new ECT Mentors. The LDE team welcomed 238 brand new ECT Mentors to Excel over 2 days. They are taught how to use a method of mentoring called Instructional Coaching to ensure their ECTs make rapid progress through the ECT Programme (ECTP).
London District East Teaching School Hub (TSH) is one of the 87 TSHs designated by the Department for Education across all geographical locations in England. We are one of the largest TSH and support all 252 schools in the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Havering and Newham - but also now many more schools across East and South London and Essex.

NPQH - The Frances Bardsley Academy for Girls Sixth Form Centre
There are currently two cohorts of NPQH running via LDE Teaching School Hub and this week we held one of the sessions at The Frances Bardsley Academy for Girls in Havering.
It was an inspirational visit and complemented our session on Curriculum and Assessment. Participants thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the farm and the school's own railway line, constructed as an engineering project in conjunction with TFL. The Executive Head Teacher, David gave a talk on the Sixth form and the session was coled by Craig Lilleymand and Anthony Henry, Head Teacher at Redden Court School, also on Havering.

This week, LDE also welcomed a new Keynote Speaker to our Year 1 ECT Conferences at Excel London. Harry Hudson, Head of History at West London Free School, and author of the A to Z of being an ECT, as well as a writer for The Times, welcomed our ECTs to the start of their ECT programme. We held four conferences across 4 days with 100 ECTs each day We welcomed all of the new Boleyn Trust ECTs to the sessions

In addition we had our second visit from the new Ambition Institute National Director of ECT Programmes - Jo Facer, who joined us to assess how the new interation of the ECTP was 'landing' with ECTs. Jo used to be the Deputy Head at Micheala School in Wembley and previously worked for the National Institute of Teaching as Head of their NPQ programmes We currently have the following ECTs starting in Year 1 on our ECT Programme
NPQH at All Saints Catholic School, Dagenham
We have 6 Cohorts of NPQH going through at the moment and this group is led by Craig and the Head of All Saints Catholic Secondary School in Dagenham - Clare Cantle.
This group is about half way through the programme and we met for Conference 2 where we look in detail at the participants personal decision-making skills, Theories of Action, use of evidence-based research in school improvement and the use of pre-Mortems to aid large scale decision making
In his session we also look at whole school approaches to SEND - a hot topic!
In this cohort is our very own Rosetta Robinson, as well as DHTs from Brampton Manor, Cooper Cobourn and many other schools besides
NPQ SENDCo and NPQH Assessment Clinics
Martin Redfern leads on NPQs for LDE and we have around 18 groups running in total at the moment, all at various stages. All of the courses are 12 or 18 months in length
The September 2024 Cohorts are going to Assessment in April All NPQ assessments are open book essay style exams
These sessions, where we prep for the assessment tasks, are the last time we see the participants - which can be quite sad after 18 months
In this cohort of NPQH - 4 participants have gained headships since the programme began.

Each year we have 6 cohorts of ECTs and Mentors on the ECT Programme.
Our April Cohorts tend to be quite small - around 20 ECTs (as opposed to 500 in September).
The April mentor cohort tends to be around 10 - 20 new Mentors and additional ‘replacement’ Mentors for ECTs already on programme
We offer start points in September, January and April, in order to fully support schools with their training needs This is Kiran Gill following up in Year 2 with edicated mentors who make up an April cohort

We’ve had various Best Pratice Network NPQ Events this week - including session 2 for NPQH, NPQSL and NPQSEND
This session was lead by David Huntingford - Head at William Ford Primary in Dagenham, with participants from across London
The Best Practice NPQs are very different from the Ambirtion NPQs, although they achieve the same thing.
We hope to run more in 26-27 to give our local schools more choice in the programmes they can access.
