WORKS BY STUDENTS FROM BA (HONS) DRAWING AT FALMOUTH UNIVERSITY

It is only by drawing often, drawing everything, drawing
incessantly, that one fine day you discover, to your surprise, that
you have rendered something in it’s true character.” CAMILLE PISSARRO
The 19th century painter Pissarro was a great believer in the practice of
drawing and made over 4000 drawn images in his lifetime. This body of work has been made by students from BA (Hons) Drawing at Falmouth,who are
artists at the very beginning of their careers, and it is a privilege to be able to
start them off with the rich and varied landscape of Tresco. Students are
inspired by the contrasts of scenery and light, by the margins between land and sea, by the sculptural plants in the Abbey Gardens and by the myths and
romanticism of the narratives of old Cornwall. Each student arrives with fresh eyes looking for the ‘true character’ of their surroundings. To many it is a
daunting task but it is here that they start their journey and learn to ‘draw
everything and draw incessantly’, laying down excellent foundations for their future practice.
