ON TRANQUILITY

Serenity Church opened its doors for the first time to the public on the 12th March 2023 on the Tranquility Region with Pastor Dan giving the first service.

Serenity Church vision is to be:

A place in which each person can discover intimacy with God an inclusive family that demonstrates what it means to be loved by one another a people who welcome the power of the Holy Spirit to transform lives and release hope.

Serenity Church would love to welcome you here on a Sunday or at one of our regular bible study activity - Taffy Starr would love to hear from you and will be happy to answer any questions you have.

Thinking of going to church for the first time? A church is like a family. Just as families exist in all shapes and sizes. People go to church for many different reasons. Some prefer it to be a time of quiet reflection; others want to engage with the service; others go seeking prayer or spiritual support.

Serenity Church will have its services every Sunday at 6:00am and there will be Bible Study happening every Tuesdays at 6:00am (All in Grid Timezone - PDT/PST)

People cry out to God in all sorts of situations. For some, this is new territory. They are not sure where to start or what to say. Christians believe that there is a God and He loves humanity deeply. He cares passionately about absolutely everybody and wants people to talk to him by praying. Christianity teaches that you don’t have be good or have lived a good life to talk to God. (The Bible says that one of the last people to talk to Jesus Christ before he died was a convicted robber who was being crucified next to him.)

You might be familiar with the idea of prayer… but it might be something completely new to you. There is no set formula. You can use whatever words you want. You cannot ‘get it wrong’. But, if you need inspiration, here are some words that might help you:

‘God, if you are there, help me. I am reaching out to you because I don’t know what else to do. Thank you that you hear me and care about all of my needs. Please be with me right now and let me know your presence, your comforting arm around me. Please show me what I should do next. Thank you that you love me, whether or not I love or even know you. Please guide my feet, and be with me as I try to work out what to do. Amen’

Easter time is here again, but many do not know, What this time really means, or what happened long ago.Foiled eggs and chocolate treats, are masking the good news, We get to take its holidays, but its message we may lose.

How many children know the truth, or parents teach the word, The story of Jesus as a man, who came to save the world.

Our sins he bore on the cross, to save our souls from hell, He rose from death to help man, spread words of God to tell.

Let our hearts fill with joy, as its meaning understood, To be with God for evermore, in presence of such good.

Our fleeting life upon this world, is just a moment past, But taking God’s wondrous gift, it won’t be our last.

Easter is a beautiful testament to God’s love to us that Jesus was born – fulfilling countless prophecies. The fact that Jesus lived life as one of us (but without sin) and can relate to our humanity gives me hope daily.

But none of that mattered unless: Jesus died on the cross Paid for every sin the world has ever known And was raised from the dead on the third day.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”

(John 14:6 )

As with everything else in our culture, we have to be intentional as Disciples of Christ to keep our hearts focused. Easter is one of those holidays that the culture has high-jacked completely as we drift away from our Christian roots.

It is so tempting to focus on spring, eggs, bunnies, and candy and lose sight of the reason for this season.

Easter Services

Serenity Church is going to have Palm Sunday Service, Good Friday Service and an Easter Sunday Service where everyone is invited to attend, starting 6:00am (PDT).

Harper and Sum will be leading Worship on Easter Sunday the first half hour of Sunday service.

Easter Egg Hunt

There will be some Easter Eggs around Tranquility Region for hunters to find somewhere laying around for some fun, joining the The 2023 Great AMV Grid Wide Easter Egg Hunt, starting from Saturday (April 1st) through to Easter Sunday (April 9th).

This years “Great AMV Grid Wide Easter Egg Hunt” will be starting on Saturday (April 1st) through to Easter Sunday (April 9th) Thanks to it’s Residents and Staff that took part in creating.

The grid’s Mayor, Taffy Starr and Zelle Mist organised this years Easter Event. Many Regions around the Alternate Metaverse Grid are taking part in the big Hunt for Eggs for Fun with many Great Surprises inside them.

This years Egg Hunt is open for Local Residents and HyperGrid Friends to enjoy together.

The STARTING point for the Easter Egg Hunt starts at Region: Tranquility there you will find a Board of Clues to get you going off on your Hunt around the grid.

The Hunt runs from Saturday April 1st through Easter Sunday, April 9th! Get all the eggs you can because after Easter they are gone!

Press the APPLY button below the Join AMV form.

NOTE: The dialogue on the following pages are full of important information so please read carefully.

You will be taken to a Terms of Service page, then a Privacy Policy page where you must scroll to the bottom and accept / agree to the terms by putting a check in the box at the bottom of each of those pages.

Next, at the top left, a small box will appear that says “Thank You, Continue to Create Your Avatar” you must click on this to go to the next step.

At this point you’ll be asked to check your email for a verify letter. Press the “Click to Verify” link in that email. In real life, Dave started singing on pal talk in the year 2000, he then moved on to Elvis tribute shows for over 10 years.

In virtual worlds, Dave joined Second life over 12 years ago and then joined Opensim and found a home in Alternate Metaverse 2 years ago.

He started the Dave King Experience a few months ago and convinced his wife of real life to join in. He continues to sing Elvis songs, but has increased his genres of music to country, classic rock, oldies and more.

Dave found a home and a great group of friends in the Alternate Metaverse. His enjoyment is singing for everyone and meeting new people.

He appreciates all the support and the family atmosphere that he has found on Alternate Metaverse especially sense his liver and kidney transplant along with other procedures that have caused some damage to his vocal cords.

Despite everything, and with great determination he continues to practice singing to regain his voice.

Medical School Learning Media and Applications in AMV

I currently work for a major medical university in the US as an instructional designer. One of my unique areas of specialization I offer is to gamify virtual learning in our university by exporting virtual world elements in the forms of videos and photos to use in other types of learning media.

Let’s examine an OS image of a Mardi Gras celebration from 2022. To create this image from scratch or from other purchased images in Adobe Photoshop or a similar software would cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. In OS, it cost me nothing. The avatar is free. The items to dress her were free. And this was a celebration with many people. My expense was my personal time and fun.

I did a tremendous amount of research before investing in Alternate Metaverse (https://alternatemetaverse.com/main/index.php . My requirements included stellar technical capabilities and support. The amazing community support is a divine gift.

Quite soon after joining AMV, I purchased a 4x4, then upgraded to a 6x6. I found an OAR that loved, but it was only for a 5x5. Two incredibly talented builders and region designers in OS, Ted Junior and Chris McCracken, were provided to me by the grid itself at no additional charge, finishing my region to perfection.

My most recent project for the university is an actual game, not gamified content. The game teaches applied statistics concepts to doctoral students, specifically how to predict and calculate the mean or average population distribution in a given area or region. The player is an intrepid explorer, searching for bunnies to capture and weigh to determine the mean or average weight of the total population, based on smaller catches. When they complete this successfully, they may then look for a population of bats and repeat the process using the wingspans of the bats using the same method.

The game itself uses images and cut scenes from the virtual world, specifically my region in AMV. The entire community contributed to my asset requests - bunnies, bats, and cages.

What you see in the provided link are four cut scenes we use in the game when the player enters the section of the game for finding, capturing, and measuring the bats and bunnies. It has critical impact on the game experience for the student. It took less than an hour to film the bunnies and then the bats.

Editing virtual world video is much easier than editing real world videos. There are no shadows, and animations are looped. File sizes are a fraction of a real world video or even an animated video built from scratch. The cost of the sets for this cut scene is the cost of my region - which is a fraction of the cost of a region in Second life that is 1/36 the size. The number of prims is huge, the technical support is rich, and the community support is a divine gift.

An important point of this effort is that it validates using inworld assets for real world creation and service applications that may be sold, such as developing gamification, games, or other learning assets and services. What can you develop and offer, using our virtual world for resources and marketing?

I did this nearly two decades ago in Second Life. The possibilities, resources, and support with OpenSim, and specifically with AMV, make this viable once more and in ways that I could never do elsewhere for a variety of reasons. I have already published multiple textbook chapters and will soon be co-published in a medical journal regarding virtual world asset creation and usage in learning, as well as using the immersive environment itself.

At the very least, for the cost of a decent website, you could have your immersive 3D advertisement. Dig in. Figure it out. Most of all - come to AMV, because you are not going to find better value, tech, support, access, and community anywhere else on the hypergrid.

As you have seen throughout the past 9 weeks that Koryphon Academy has been having Building Classes once a week, here are some pictures showcasing the Students project building in starting from a basic Prim to texturing and scripting a house to building themselves a Tiny House from scratch and ending on creating from what they learn’t into Lego Blocks.

It has been a fun ride at the Prim Building Classes for all of the Students at the Academy.

The Students have been learning so much in the classes, starting from dropping a prim to turning it into something amazing as well as learning how to bring their build to life.

Here at Koryphon Academy the instructor provides a building course to take you from absolute beginner onward.

Rique Giano shared many tips and tricks to getting started in your Virtual Builders Life.

Also teaches you how to handle Textures to fit your Build to Learning the Basic Scripting to bring your Building to Life .

The AMV Community Farm is ran by Alternate Metaverse Grid, created and designed by April Mckenna and Paige Thane.

Farming and Roleplay

Farming is an interactive, creative, and fun virtual farm for AMV Residents and Hypergridders to Live, Work and Play on the farm.

On the farm you will see Animals, Plants, and for the Farmers there will be Tools to help you with your daily work chores.

The Community Farm has Satyr Farm as well as Quintonia elements, many of the farm items are a result of Paige and April’s developing our own creations.

The size of the Farm Region is a 5x5, there are also 12 parcels available for residents to lease, which is coming soon at a low cost of 210 Gloebits a week, that is (30G a day), the Rent boxes will be placed at each parcel, so anyone wanting to live there can contact April Mckenna at any time, (the rent boxes are almost ready and all AMV Residents and Hypergrid people are welcome any time!)

There are daily chores that would need to be done when living on the farm, once the basic knowledge of the farm workings has been obtained, residents can join in any aspect of farming.

The Farm is a living thing, always producing, changing, and growing and evolving.

DIGIWORLDZ 8th Birthday Celebration

Digiworldz has been going since 2013, starting as a showroom and turned into a grid and opened its doors to the public since March 2015.

MENUS OF THE MONTH SCONES

A scone is a baked good, usually made of either wheat or oatmeal with baking powder as a leavening agent, and baked on sheet pans. A scone is often slightly sweetened and occasionally glazed with egg wash. The scone is a basic component of the cream tea.

Ingredients

350g self-raising flour, plus more for dusting

1 tsp baking powder

85g butter, cut into cubes

3 tbsp caster sugar

175ml milk

1 tsp vanilla extract

beaten egg, to glaze

jam and clotted cream, to serve

Step 1- Heat the oven to 220C/200C fan/gas 7. Tip the self-raising flour into a large bowl with ¼ tsp salt and the baking powder, then mix.

Step 2 - Add the butter, then rub in with your fingers until the mix looks like fine crumbs. Stir in the caster sugar.

STEPS FOR COOKING

Step 3 - Put the milk into a jug and heat in the microwave for about 30 secs until warm, but not hot. Add the vanilla extract, then set aside for a moment.

Step 4 - Put a baking tray in the oven. Make a well in the dry mix, then add the liquid and combine it quickly with a cutlery knife – it will seem pretty wet at first.

Step 5 - Scatter some flour onto the work surface and tip the dough out. Dredge the dough and your hands with a little more flour, then fold the dough over 2-3 times until it’s a little smoother. Pat into a round about 4cm deep. Take a 5cm cutter (smoothedged cutters tend to cut more cleanly, giving a better rise) and dip it into some flour. Plunge into the dough, then repeat until you have four scones. You may need to press what’s left of the dough back into a round to cut out another four.

Step 6 - Brush the tops with a beaten egg, then carefully arrange on the hot baking tray. Bake for 10 mins until risen and golden on the top. Eat just warm or cold on the day of baking, generously topped with jam and clotted cream. If freezing, freeze once cool. Defrost, then put in a low oven (about 160C/140C fan/gas 3) for a few minutes to refresh.
