THE BHAVAN’S SUMMER SCHOOL 2022 PT. SUBRATA GUPTA - Tabla One of the leading percussionists of India, a disciple of the legendary Tabla Maestro Pt. Shankar Ghosh, Subrata is an accomplished and versatile Tabla player. He is an accompanist as well as a soloist. Subrata is a regular artiste of All India Radio and Doordarshan Kendra (Kolkata). He is also well-recognized and sought as an accompanist by most of the leading musicians. Assisted by Pt. Rajkumar Misra. SRI. BALU RAGURAMAN - Karnatic Violin A Fellow of Trinity College, London, Balu Raguraman is a talented Karnatic violinist who has performed extensively worldwide with musicians from Western classical, jazz and African music traditions. He is an innovative musician who has worked with great maestros like Dr. Balamurali Krishna, Dr. N Ramani, and Prof. T V Gopalakrishna. He is also involved in The Bhavan’s special music series “Bhinna Abhinna”, a collaborative project.
SMT. SURANJANA BOSE - Hindustani Vocal Vidushi Suranjana Bose is an Indian Classical Vocalist representing the esteemed Patiala Gharana of Khayal and the prestigious Benaras (Purav Ang) Gharana of semi classical genre like Thumri, Dadra, Chaiti, Kajri, Hori. She initially trained under Pandit Hariprasad Das and later under Late Pandit Prasun Bandyopadhay and Late Vidushi Meera Bandyopadhay in Patiala Gharana. She is a Top-Grade artist of All India Radio. SMT. REENA SRIVASTAVA - Sitar Reena Shrivastava grew up in a house where Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Pt. Ravi Shankar were regular guests. Her father, the Sarod exponent Rabi Chakraborty trained her in Sitar. Reena has formed a duo with her brother Rajeeb as well as with her son Pratik Shrivastava who was hailed as a prodigy. Even as a soloist Reena has carved a niche for herself and is a wellknown teacher. Assisted by Sri Sanjay Guha.
SMT. SREKALA BHARATH - Bharatnatyam Kalaimamani, Natya Acharya Dr.Srekala Bharath is one of Chennai’s foremost Bharatanatyam dancer who is known for her distinctive choreographies and unique presentations worldwide. She has released a book ’Yatra’ on her dance journey spanning over 50 years. As a scholar, she was conferred senior fellowship by the Government of India and submitted a thesis on Evolution of Bharatanatyam and adapting them to Dance Drama. Assisted by Sri Prakash Yadagudde.

SRI. ABHAY SHANKAR MISHRA - Kathak Abhay Shankar Mishra is one of the leading exponents of Kathak. A mesmerizing performer, dynamic teacher, and creative choreographer he lives and works in India. Born into a family steeped in musical tradition and trained under world-renowned Gurus including Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj. Abhay has the unique experience of learning all three of the major Gharanas of Kathak (Lucknow, Jaipur, and Banaras). He was The Bhavan London’s resident teacher for many years. Dhiya Arora and Amun Bhachu are his disciples.
SRI. SAMPTHA KUMARACHARY DARURI - Karnatic Vocal A Karnatic Vocalist, musicologist, and a teacher with over 35 years of experience, he has trained under his father Late Sri. Daruri Ratnamacharyulu and under the Hyderabad brothers. With over 400 performances across the world, he has written three books on music which are used widely by artists and students from India, USA, and New Zealand.
SMT. INDU BAROT - Hindi Smt. Indu Barot has a master’s in Hindi, Sanskrit and in Computer Science. She writes poetry, articles, and stories, and is also a translator of Hindi, Sanskrit and English works.
H.S SUDHEENDRA - Mridangam H S Sudheendra has been serving the field of music for nearly 40 years. He has been under the tutelage of Vidwan Sri. M.Vasudeva Rao and Vidwan Sri. Srimushnam.V.Raja Rao, two outstanding exponents of Mridangam. He has accompanied all the leading. Karnatic musicians. Graded ‘A-Top’ artist, he performs for AIR and Doordarshan. He has toured extensively all over India and abroad. Assisted by M Balachandar.
SMT. SAJALI ROY - Bengali Music Sajali has trained under gurus including late Dr. Jamini Nath Ganguly, late Dr. Biman Mukhopadhay, Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty and Jharna Banerjee. She has directed and performed shows across India, Bangladesh, and in the UK. A qualified Sangeet Prabhakar (teacher), she teaches Bengali song-forms such as Rabindrasangeet, Nazrul Geeti, Dwijendra Geeti, Atul Prasadi, Rajnikanth and Raag Pradhan.
SMT. SWAPNOKALPA DASGUPTA - Odissi Smt. Swapnokalpa Dasgupta (Roychowdhury)(Head of Programming, Dance division, NCPA Mumbai), is an outstanding Odissi dancer, disciple of legendary Guru late Kelucharan Mohapatra and Guru Poushali Mukerjee. She has performed in india, UK and France as a soloist and conducted workshops which have earned her wide appreciation. She has trained in Dance Movement Therapy and initiated the Odissi Diploma classes at The Bhavan. Assisted by Katrina Rute
