DIGITAL LITERACY ACROSS INDIA

HP WoW project supports the Indian Government’s Digital India initiative to transform the country into a digitally empowered society, knowledge an- economy. On 1st July 2015, the Government of India have launched the Digital India Initiative. The Digital India initiative mainly consists of three com- ponents that form the fundamental characteristics of the programme: universal digital literacy, delivering all government services to the citizens digitally, and development of secure and stable digital infrastructure. Theinitiativealsoaimstoconnectruralareaswithhigh-speedinternetnetworks.

The project is currently being run at Hasanpur village of Haryana. The programme focuses on digital literacy of the youth, the women and the children of the community. We have also tied up with NIIT Foundation, to provide Tally GST training to the youth in the community. This aids their employment as well. Hence, the project not only aims at digital literacy of the community but also to ensure employment of the youth through skil ling. The learners in the bus are also trained in soft skills and over all development. Apart fromthis,theprojectalsocaterstovariouscommunityawarenessprogrammes.

The project is implemented by The Bharat Scouts and Guides, National Headquarters, New Delhi. At Hasanpur village of Haryana in association with Moga Devi Mindra Group and HP and completed three BatchesasperTablehereunder.

GENDEREQUALITY(SDG–5)

More than 130 million girls around the world lack access to education, and women account for two-thirds of the 750 million adults without basic literacy skills. The HP WoW project had reached to learners of both thegenders.ThroughAdvancedigitaleducationwomenandgirlswereabletoattendcomputerclasses.
