Editorial Welcome to this week’s editorial, This week’s editorial is lacking in any clear direction as we are as equally flummoxed as to what direction our esteeed Vol 16 September 15th 2017 feel as though the councillors actually have no idea and are simply leaving the steering of leaders are taking us. 2017 Many 28 April December 7th, Vol 48 27th 2018 the Good Ship Lollypop up to the General Manager and those on her poop deck.

We are however slowly uncovering some gems such as learning that Council annually bumps up the water and sewer rates to feed the general fund to pay for the 2.5% CPI increases that the staff are automatically awarded and with a labour cost of $33m per year that is growing at a rate that the average punter just can’t afford.

It reminds me of a fat koel chick being left behind by its cuckoo parents for a pair of little wattle birds to raise and, as it grows bigger and fatter, the wattle birds grow skinnier trying to feed it.

The last council meeting saw Councillor Anthony Mayne ask a very bold question…. “..with all the increases in fees and charges of 1.9% here and 2.3% there has anyone actually added all these up for an average Eurobodalla household so that the message can be packaed to ratepayers that they can now expect to pay $X more per year”.

The looks he received from the bench were similar to the looks that one might receive if one had just soiled ones trousers and now have filled the chamber with a putrid smell. The answer… NO In every Council report there is a section that looks at the Social Impact and the Financial Impact of any of their decisions however that impact is all about Council and has nothing to do with the impact on residents socially or financially. To them the residents and ratepayers are just a boundless bucket of money and sadly they are limited by legislation as to how much they can bump up their fees and charges.

It was terrific to see Councillor Mayne ask the question and though the response was that such a figure might be provided in future years the comments around the gallery sounded something like “pigs bum” There is a developing strength coming in councillors who are beginning to ask more and more difficult questions of staff and with each of the questions layers of an unsavoury onion are beginning to be peeled back with the result being that Council, whether they like it or not, are being forced into the open to finally become Open and Transparent.

This year has already seen a record number of Codes of Conduct raised against Eurobodalla by embers of the public as they too develop more strength and a clearer understanding of exactly what Council can and can’t do.

The two years ahead should be interesting to see how it all unfurls.

One thing for certain is that the more the Council attempts to keep things behind closed doors the more it all comes back to bite them on the bum and presently the seat of Council’s backside is looking somewhat ragged.

ALDI confirm Narooma Plaza store An ALDI spokesperson has confirmed they will be opening a new store as part of the Narooma Plaza redevelopment.

“We are eager to bring the unique ALDI shopping experience to more residents in New South Wales, and are pleased to confirm that we’ll be opening a new store as part of the Narooma Plaza redevelopment,” the spokesperson said.

Narooma Plaza’s Dan Greenlees told The Beagle “We are excited for ALDI to be coming on board and think it will be a benefit to the local community,” The redevelopment will also see an increase of the Woolworths floor area allowing it to expand to a full-line supermarket inclusive of delicatessen and bakery. The redevelopment will also provide for additional retail spaces.

It is planned to commence the redevelopment program in late 2018 with completion of Stage 1 prior to Xmas 2019

Moruya South Head shared pathway works underway Work is underway on a 350m shared pathway link along South Head Road, Moruya.

Council is constructing the section of pathway from Halyard Drive to The Anchorage, as well as associated stormwater, kerb and guttering and tree clearing works.

Additional street lighting and a new pedestrian crossing east of The Anchorage intersection will safely link pedestrians and cyclists to the existing pathway on the northern side of the road.

Traffic control is in place and motorists can expect short delays while the daytime work is underway.

This work is being funded as part of a $750,000 grant under the NSW Government’s Active Transport Program thanks to advocacy from Bega MP Andrew Constance.

Following on from this initial stage Council will be undertaking the detailed design and environmental approvals for the section of pathway between Keightley Street and Halyard Drive and progressing the works to the extent the funds allow. Council will continue to work closely with the Moruya South Head Cycle/Pathway Committee to progress the pathway.

Meanwhile further east, Council is lifting and rehabilitating a 300m section of South Head Road east of the Preddeys Wharf Road intersection.

The work is part of Eurobodalla Council’s annual road pavement rehabilitation program and involves raising the road surface to help protect it from high tides.

Traffic control measures are in place from Monday to Saturday while the daytime work is underway. It is expected to be complete in the first half of July. beagle weekly : Vol 57 June 29th, 2018

Museum advisor gets to work Vol 16 September 15th 2017 Local museums now have an extra helping hand as part of the Museum Advisor Program.

by Museums and Galleries of NSW and Eurobodalla Council, the program has enlisted the help of specialist consultant Lynn Collins to work with local museums to help improve their operations.

An educator and former museum curator, Mr Collins has more than 10 years’ experience advising museums around NSW. He said Eurobodalla’s museums were very active but were faced with limited resources, particularly active volunteers, as in many regional areas.

“One of the museums’ greatest assets is the characters who support them - the passionate people who want to see their local history kept alive, and it’s a tough gig,” Mr Collins said.

“They already have strategic plans in place and they are trying to meet best practice and find the most Above: Moruya and District Historical Society volunteer effective way forward. But a major challenge is Suzanne Newnham, museum advisor Lynn Collins and standing out in the modern world.”

Moruya and District Historical Society Museum curator Brian Harris said the extra support was valuable.

“A person like Lynn is great to help us implement our strategic plan, help us spend money more wisely and identify our strengths and our areas of weakness,” he said.

“He’ll also be able to let us know when grant opportunities are available and support us in our applications.”

Council’s Strategy and Heritage Planner Steve Halicki is pleased to have the Museum Advisor Program reinstated.

“We have a growing focus on heritage tourism in Eurobodalla and our museums play a major role,” he said.

Good Times for Hope House Batemans Bay Hope House Manager Vol 16 September 15thShirley 2017 Diskon has been honoured with a community award at last weekend’s Lions Club of 28 April December 7th, 2017 luncheon.

Vol 48 27th 2018 Batemans Bay changeover Lions Club President Jackie Harding presented the award to Shirley in recognition of her tireless work with homeless men in our community.

In addition, Lions Batemans Bay presented Hope House with a donation of $1,000 which will be used to purchase a much needed oven for the house. Shirley thanked Lions for their on-going support.

On Sunday the staff and residents of Hope House manned the BBQ at Bunnings in Batemans Bay and raised $1200 on the day. Hope House Manager Shirley Diskon has thanked the management of Hope House for the opportunity to raise much needed funds for the Mens shelter.

A number of the residents of Hope House have completed their course at Adult Ed and are now qualified for work on road maintenance sights. A number of the men have work prospects which are expected to happen over the coming weeks.

In addition to the Lions Bateans Bay donation there is an announcement of a Club Grant for Hope House. .

The Batemans Bay Soldiers Club has again supported Hope House with a club grant of $5,000.

Club CEO Paul Biddlestone says the grant will enable Hope House to continue and expand it’s vital rehabilitation programs for the residents.

Club Grants has been a major supporter of Hope House through the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club for many years and Hope House Manager Shirley Diskon says without this valued support Hope House would struggle to maintain these important drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs which are vital in getting the homeless men back into community.

Brown calls out Liberals for their cuts to libraries "It's an absolute disgrace" Vol 16this September 15th 2017Councillor Lindsay Brown “called out” the NSW State Government for their further reductions to Earlier week Eurobodalla 28 April December 7th, 2017 Vol 48 27th 2018

library funding making the "Premier State" the lowest contributor per capita of any State or Territory in the country.

Councillor Brown called for the Mayor to take, as a matter of urgency, a motion to the Joint Region Of Councils requesting that the NSW State Government overturn its decision to cut library funding and to inject funds into it to bring it up to comparable equity with other states. He said that NSW funding is considerably lower than all the other states across Australia.

In response Member for Bega Andrew Constance advised that public libraries in regional NSW can apply for capital grants to build new, or improve existing infrastructure with a dedicated $5 million set aside – an increase of over $1 million from the old Public Library Infrastructure Grant program.

“The capital spend is in addition to the public libraries subsidy provided through the State Library of NSW, which remains unchanged.

“Eurobodalla Shire Council has an application in under the Stronger Country Communities fund to further Develop the Moruya Library and Arts Centre.

“I’d suggest the learned councillor involved here familiarise himself with the actions of his own council, with the said funding application currently being assessed." Member for Bega Andrew Constance “I would also encourage the good councillor take a look out the window of council.” Member for Bega Andrew Constance “He will clearly see construction activity underway to expand the Moruya library with a $200,000 government grant from the NSW Liberals.

“It’s a bit rich of Councillors to claim that the NSW Government isn’t supporting public libraries in our region when Eurobodalla Shire Council has received over $905,000 in public library subsidy funding from the Liberals.

Earlier today (Fri 29th June) Eurobodalla Mayor Liz Innes has expressed her

grave disappointment that accusations of library funding cuts made at Tuesday’s Council have potentially jeopardised the working relationship Council enjoys with Bega MP Andrew Constance.

“I’m actually quite angry about the manner in which this was raised. We have built a fantastic working relationship with Andrew and we’ve achieved a great deal together for the benefit of this community. NSW government funds are flowing to this shire faster than ever before and this is thanks to Minister Constance’s influence and his commitment to our region.

“We’re well within our rights to ask questions about budget matters, particularly when it looks like it might impact our shire, but the way we go about asking those questions has significance and this is a timely and serious reminder for all councillors.” beagle weekly : Vol 57 June 29th, 2018

Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Gardens walk July 1st Experience the Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Gardens joining their Winter Walk Sunday, July 1st, at 11am. This walk will take abut an hour. Meet your guide in the breezeway at the ERBG Visitors Centre at 10.55 am. It’s free and there is no need to book. Everyone is welcome.

Over eight kilometres of tracks have been developed within the Gardens, giving access to the natural and man made features of the site.A walk booklet and map is available from the Gardens Visitors Centre.

Walks range from level pathways to rugged tracks with steps and dry creek crossings.

Free Guided Walks Free walks are offered on the first Sunday of each month at 11.00am with a trained volunteer guide.

How far and how long the walk will last is reached by agreement with the group.

Gadfly 41 By Robert Macklin The cracks appearing in Bill Shorten’s leadership are bring greeted with delight by the Coalition. Defence Minister Christopher Pyne could barely contain himself as Shorten’s Vol 16 September 15th 2017

‘captain’s call’ on 2018 the to oppose business tax cuts caused consternation in the 28 April December 7th,decision 2017 Vol 48 27th Caucus.

‘Albo will be licking his chops,’ he said, at any wavering of support for the Labor leader. The ‘Albo’ in question was of course Anthony Albanese who contested the leadership against Shorten in the wake of Labor’s defeat in the 2013 election. At the time Albo won a thumping 60-40 majority of the Party’s 30,000 rank and file, but Shorten, the supreme faction boss, countered with a similar proportion of Caucus votes from a mere 86 Members and Senators.

It was a terribly unjust result for a party that says it believes in one vote one value. Yet Albo accepted his defeat with the kind of grace and decency that marks his career in politics. Nevertheless, he would not have been human if he hadn’t felt a sense of injustice and a determination to stick around to see if Shorten faltered in his unaccustomed role fronting for the movement, instead of plotting behind the scenes.

Moreover, in the five years since then he has been the very model of the loyal front bencher, with not a word of public descent; and not a whiff of private briefing against his leader.

Shorten himself stuck closely to the tactics – and to the very last syllable of the words - fashioned by his leadership team. He looked and sounded exactly like what he was – a ventriloquist’s dummy – but such was the disillusion in the electorate with Malcolm Turnbull that in the 2016 election Labor ran the Coalition to a close finish. Indeed, in its wake Shorten paraded around the country as though he’d actually won it.

This was an operation designed to dissuade Albo from mounting a challenge, the only time he could have done so under the rules foisted on the party by Kevin Rudd when they wanted him to ‘save the furniture’ in 2013.

In the event, Albo stayed mum and has continued as the loyal supporter while Turnbull has established a seemingly permanent ascendency over Shorten as preferred Prime Minister.

At the same time, in spite of its leader, Labor has retained a narrow lead over the Coalition in the polling. But it’s just the kind of lead that could be upended in an election campaign, especially one where Shorten was seen as the alternative national leader. Australians are no fools; they remember that it was Shorten who provided Julia Gillard with the numbers and the knife to plunge into Kevin Rudd’s back in 2010; and he did exactly the same to Julia in 2013.

Even if the Libs are on the nose, the very idea of this man representing Australia in the great international councils of the world is anathema. Little wonder that the moment Albanese makes a speech that differs from the Shorten line by a hair’s breadth, the political world lights up with a technicolour explosion: ‘Albo’s making a run! You beauty!’

But will it change anything in the Caucus room? Time will tell.

Reading—history

Circe - a review by Trevor Moore Vol 16 September 15th 2017

28toApril December 7th, 2017 I have say27th that 2018 this is not a book that I would normally have chosen to read but I was in Vol 48 Moruya Books and Julie pressed me to purchase it. She is nothing if not a good

saleswoman so I succumbed to her blandishments and took it home with me. If it true that there exists a genre of fiction that we might call “women’s fiction” then I think that this book would fall into it. In making such a classification I am risking scorn from many quarters and I apologise if I offend anyone who thinks that fiction should be seen as independent of gender. Having said that, and in admitting that I am a male and possess all the advantages and disadvantages of that gender, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I read it in but a few days.

The narrative revolves around the gods of Greek mythology. Circe was one such though she was a minor deity. She was the daughter of Helios who was the personification of the sun. Her mother was Perse who was one of the three thousand daughters of the gods Oceanus and Tethys. You do not need to know any of this to read the book but clearly Madeleine Miller knows her Greek mythological stuff. Miller is a classicist and a teacher; she has taught Latin and Greek to high students for many years. I read an interview with her where she said that the classical world had captured her imagination from a early age: she cites Vergil’s Aeneid and Homer’s Odyssey as influences.

Somewhat amusingly she also describes Richard Adams’ Watership Down as “The Iliad and Odyssey with rabbits.”

There is no mention of Circe in The Aeneid but she gets some coverage in The Odyssey where Homer describes her as “the cunning Aegean goddess Circe.”

A quick refresh of The Odyseey turns up several references that are picked up by Miller. In Miller’s book a loom that Daedalus gives Circe features strongly. In The Odyssey we find Circe “at her loom, making a web so fine, so soft, and of such dazzling colours as no one but a goddess could weave.” It was after I read Miller’s book that I discovered that the first English translation by a woman of The Odyssey (by Emily Wilson) was only recently published in November 2017.

That will be worth a read.

Miller’s website features an exuberant quote by Margaret George (an American historical novelist) in support of Circe: George says that the book “is as close as you will ever come to entering the world of mythology as a participant.

Stunning, touching and unique.” This is perhaps slightly over the top but Miller does tell a good story. Circe is not popular in the halls of the gods: “Circe is dull as a rock,” says Helios. She turns to mortals for companionship and falls in love with one, Glaucos who is a fisherman. They become lovers. Circe uses her pharmaka (the ability to find and use magical herbs) to turn him into a god. But Glaucos tires of Circe and transfers his affections to Scylla. This does not go down well with Circe who exercises her sorcery on Scylla. For this, and other perceived failings, she is banished to a remote island called Aiaia.

The second half of the book deals with the consequences of her affair with Odysseus who turns up on Aiaia with his ship and crew. The crew are turned into pigs. There’ s a lovely piece of dialogue where Odysseus asks Circe, why pigs?

“Why not,” she replies. She does not really know but having gone through some of the benefits of pigs concludes that “the truth is, men make terrible pigs.” Odysseus, of course, has a wife at home and a son but that does not stop him from beagle weekly : Vol 57 June 29th, 2018

Reading—history continues…. leaving Circe pregnant when he leaves the island. Perhaps Miller (or Circe) has a point about men and pigs. The rest of the tells the story of Odysseus’ wife, Penelope, her son Telemachus and Circe’s son Telegonus and Circe’s dealings Volbook 16 September 15th 2017 28 April December 7th, 2017 Vol 48 27th 2018 with each. It is a light and engaging tale told in prose that is tight and fairly romps along.

I am quite sure that there are more copies at Moruya Books and you should make your way there immediately with cash in hand. This is a great book for a winter’s afternoon and a cup or two of tea. I have bought, and added to my heap, Madeline Miller’s first book The song of Achilles. This won the 2012 Orange Prize (now The Women’s Prize for Fiction). I am expecting a another ripping read.

Post script See also The Odyssey, Emily Wilson, W W Norton, 2017, ISBN 9 780 3930 8905 9, 592pp: if you have read other translations then this might be worth a look. A woman’s perspective as she translates will be different to a man’s. Wilson’s translation tells us of Circe that “what makes this enchantress particularly dangerous is that she is as beautiful as she is powerful.” Circe is typically not portrayed as beautiful by male translators. Samuel Butler’s translation of The Odyssey says she is “cunning.” Alexander Pope’s translation (which is the one I read long ago) describes Circe as “adamantine”. It is interesting that Miller’s Circe is perhaps anything but adamantine.

Reading—history Shire-wide news extracts from the Moruya Examiner of 29 June 1918, provided by the Moruya & District Historical Society: Vol 16 September 15th 2017

DESERTER ARRESTED. 28 April December 7th, 2017– A. E. Jackson, a deserter from the A.I.F. about two years ago, and for whom a warrant was Vol 48 27th 2018 in existence, has been arrested by that smart police officer, Constable Marsh, who is in charge of Bateman’s Bay Police Station, assisted by Constable Lawrence, of this station.

GOLDMINING COMPANY. – For its smallness of population Nerrigundah is about one of the most progressive centres this paper has made the acquaintance of. Having failed to get the assistance they were entitled to from the Mines Department in developing the mineral industry of their unquestionably rich locality, they have now clubbed together as a ‘Goldmining and Crushing Syndicate,’ and are now advertising through the issue for a complete crushing plant of five or more stampers, all particulars can be obtained from the secretary, Mr. J. J. Jessop, at Nerrigundah. Everyone acquainted with Nerrigundah, even the children, know that there are covered in its hills and dales tons weight of golden treasure in reefs and alluvials not yet found.

THE WEATHER. – No rain has fallen in this district of any appreciable value for some months past, and with the late westerly winds followed by a continuity of unusually heavy frosts the whole district has become as brown as a berry, and water, especially with residents in town, is becoming alarmingly scarce. There is a large cemented underground tank near the footpath in Campbell Street, in the Shire Council’s property, which could be converted into a great blessing to many of our residents by the Council affixing a pump on it together with a few yards of hose, sufficiently long to reach out through the fence onto the road, thereby enabling householders to conveniently fill their buckets.

PERSONAL AND OTHERWISE. – MR. Jack King, the sporting Boniface of the Hotel Adelaide, has established himself a pronounced favourite with the lads of the town and district owing to his introduction of terrier rabbit coursing.Miss Cella, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. Lynch, of Moruya, and a favourite musician with terpsichorean artists, was down from Sydney on a flying visit to her parents last week, looking quite charming.Mr. Glenn Ball, of Mullenderree, fully deserved the dual win he secured at the Poultry Club’s sports on Monday (figure eight and flag race), owing to the excellent care he bestows on his very excellent little pony cob.

FREEZING WORKS. – The manager of the Moruya Freezing Works informs us that the supply of rabbits is gradually increasing. There are any number of rodents to be trapped in the paddocks surrounding the town, and trappers will not only be benefitting themselves, but also stockowners, by getting to work in earnest and at once.

NAROOMA. – (From our Correspondent). Sharks have been very numerous lately around Narooma entrance, in the vicinity of the Bar and inside channels, probably after the salmon and tailor with which the Wagonga is teeming at present.

Nineteen 100 years ago booklets containing articles for the years 1899 to 1917 are available ($5 ea) from the Society’s rooms. This Saturday will see the celebration of the start of a new era for the Dromedary Hotel Vol 16 September 15th 2017 28 April December 7th, 2017 Vol 48 27th 2018 in Central Tilba.

The new owners extend an invitation to join them this Saturday 30th June 5pm for their opening party.

There will be music from local favourite Mike Ward from 6pm, and the widely acclaimed Kitchenboys of Central Tilba will be serving complimentary pork and lamb legs cooked on the spit from 5pm.

what’s on—fishing Your up to date Tackle World Moruya Fishing report Moruya and Tuross River Vol 16 September 15th 2017

28 December 7th, 2017 decreasing the fishing has slowed down in Vol 48 27th 2018 With theApril water temperature both systems as of late. Light and long fluorocarbon leaders are a must under these clear water winter conditions.

Bream are still hanging around the front of the system near the entrance. Fresh baits like worms and yabbies are working well.

Luderick are being caught around the hole in the wall at Moruya and also in the oyster leases at Tuross.

The flathead bite has slowed down a lot in both Moruya and Tuross with only the odd one being caught in the shallows.

Estuary perch are thick in Moruya and Tuross. The hospital rocks area and the highway bridges have been holding good numbers.

Jack and I have just got off the water and enjoyed a great catch and release session landing trevally, bream and flathead.

These fish were caught around the leases on Atomic Hardz and Squidgy Bio Tuf’s. I have put the photos on Instagram if you would like to view them.

Rocks and Beaches The drummer bite hasn't slowed up and down the coast with reports of some good numbers coming in off the rocks using cunji.

Divers have reported plenty of crayfish around at the moment. If getting in the water isn't your thing, our quality locally made cray pots have also been very productive.

The salmon, tailor and bream fishing has been great off the beaches at Moruya, Bingi and Tuross using baits like Pillies and spinning with lures.

Offshore The inshore bombies around the Pedro Point area have fished well for snapper on soft plastics. Five inch Gulp jerk shads in Nuclear and BBQ chicken have worked well.

Flathead are being caught in the 20-30 metre mark just off Windsock in reasonable numbers. Pillies and squid have been the bait of choice.

The reefs are producing some nice snapper on pillies live baits and jigs. Some good size mowie and nanagai have also been caught.

The tuna are out in force from Eden all the way up to JB, with reports of one boat (Gav from Tackle World Nowra) having a 5 way hook up on Wednesday. Some fish of over 100kg cleaned, coming off the commercial boats. Lots of albacore in the mix also.

Alice Terry album launch at Quarterdeck, Narooma June 30th Alice Terry sounds like she’s had three husbands and killed them all. Her long-awaited album 'The Fear Of' is being released on June 15th, and she will perform a small run of shows to celebrate.

Alice Terry's debut single Emotion, released July this year, went to number one on the iTunes blues charts within hours.

The sold out launch that followed proved why Terry has been nicknamed ‘Sydney’s first lady of blues’. The second single, These Troubled Seas was received beautifully as well and was added to ABC Country's regular rotation.

Terry's spirited performances and clever writing have steadily gained recognition and support from audiences and peers alike. Written by British playwright Alan Bennett, author of many well-known works including ‘Lady in the Van’, ‘The History Boys’ and ‘The Madness of George III’, the ‘Talking Heads’ series of one-act plays were first produced for BBC TV in the 1980s.

Amusing and witty, with a touch of pathos, the four monologues chosen by director Jenny Kohlhagen for inclusion in Bay Theatre Players Inc July 2018 production give us an insight into the mindset of four very different women.

‘Soldiering On’ features Ursula ‘Nik’ Nixon, well known to our local audiences from her many appearances on our stage, including in the unforgettable ‘Shoehorn Sonata’. Nik’s character Muriel is recently widowed and evolves to be a master of self-deception and moral blindness.

Narrell Murdoch is Susan, the vicar’s wife in ‘Bed Among the Lentils’ – a woman with a lot to hide from her husband and his parishioners. Susan’s tragic story is not without moments of hilarity! Narrell has performed in many BTP productions, including roles in ‘Annie’ and ‘Minefields and Miniskirts’ in recent years.

We encounter someone we all know in ‘A Cream Cracker Under the Settee’, as Jenny Grinlinton, who we last saw on stage in the 2016 production of ‘Forget Me Not’, plays the elderly Doris. Doris is determined to remain in her own home rather than be ‘put away in a nursing home’. Doris, however, is disillusioned with the home help that has been arranged by the council to enable her to manage at home.

Recipient of multiple CATS nominations and awards for her theatre work, Candy Burgess will entertain you as ‘A Lady of Letters’ - a woman who has taken the concept of neighbourhood watch to the extreme. In this final monologue, our ‘Lady of Letters’, Irene Ruddock will amuse and delight you as she draws you into her world.

The NSW Artists’ Grant has been initiated by NAVA to assist professional visual and media arts, craft and design practitioners residing in NSW to produce, present and promote their work throughout NSW, interstate and overseas. Artists residing in regional NSW and Western Sydney are encouraged to apply. This program is funded

by Create NSW, an agency of the New South Wales Government and supported by the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy, an initiative of the Australian State and Territory Governments. This grant provides assistance towards the costs of: Production of new creative work Presentation of work in a venue Residencies involving the production of new work/ presentation of new work Production and distribution of an artist’s publication or portfolio Setting up a website, preparing a publicity campaign Funding Available: Individual applicants are eligible to apply for funding of up to $1,250 +GST. Group applications are eligible to apply for funding of up to $2,500 +GST. An individual exhibiting in a group show can apply for individual funding but the assessors may choose to limit the funds going to any one exhibition.

Important Dates: This grant operates in quarterly rounds.
