GAME PREVIEW:
Benedictine advanced to the second round of the GHSA Class 4A playoffs with a thrilling, back-and-forth victory over Troup County. This is the ninth consecutive season that BC has won a first-round playoff game. Justin Thomas once again had a big night, scoring both rushing and receiving. He ended the night with four touchdowns and a two-point conversion. Sophomore Za’Quan Bryan hauled in a career-high 10 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown. Holden Geriner ended the night with 302 yards passing while connecting with seven different receivers. The defense gave up four touchdowns in the first half before bouncing back in a big way and surrendering only one score in the second half. Nick Dillon was key in the victory going a perfect 4-for4 on extra points and connecting on field goals from 24 and 29 yards. This week will mark only the second time the Cadets have played Cairo, with BC falling, 42-0, on the road in the 2007 playoffs.
Cairo, one of the winningest programs in the history of Georgia football, is one of the hottest teams in the state. The Syrupmakers have won five consecutive games and are coming off a 37-0 win over West Laurens. Tay Solomon leads a rushing attack that gained over 360 yards last week. Solomon is a two-time, first-team all-region selection. Cairo has a number of weapons on offense, including quarterback Kevin Speed. The defense is fast and physical at all three levels and bases out of a 4-3. Junior linebacker Gary Davis is a force in the middle and racked up 114 stops a year ago. Noah Jones impacts the game tremendously as both a kicker and punter. The senior is committed to Georgia and one service has him ranked as the top punter in the country. The winner will play Riverdale or Northwest Whitfield.
