On Wednesday, February 20, Thomas A. Wohlmut unveiled his film “The Light Between Two Towers� at 3Below Theaters & Lounge. This special screening celebrated over 200 generous individual and corporate donors that supported the creation of the film. San Jose Pride The Light Between Two Towers Jose was able to influence the world, including the engineering design of the world-famous Eiffel Tower. On February 16, 1882, The San Jose Mercury wrote, “Nothing more beautiful, in its airy lines and symmetrical proportions, was ever before erected on this continent. It has advertised San Jose abroad as nothing else could. Beyond our country the illustrated papers of Germany, France, Austria and Italy, have contained pictorial descriptions of this tower. Scores of cities on this continent are contemplating the erection of similar structures.” At a recent San Jose City Council meeting, Mayor Sam Liccardo commented, “Tom [Wohlmut] is working on a film now that demonstrates the link between our iconic Light Tower and the Eiffel Tower... So, we’ve got a great opportunity now. I’m certainly excited
by the possibilities and I’m most excited by the fact that it’s stirring imagination which I think is long overdue in our city. We’ve got a city that’s a wonderful place to live, it’s a wonderful place to work, and we want it to be a place that we all love.”

Strong Headwinds SJC denies FIOA Request of Chair of San Jose Airport Commission San Jose International Airport, Director of Aviation John Aitken, denies FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request from Chair of San Jose Airport Commission Dan L. Connolly. He requested to review the “actual responses” made by airlines, which is the basis of the Downtown Airspace Capacity Study Report and Recommendation of Scenario #4, to San Jose City Council, that if approved, will raise building heights in the South Flow flight path of SJC. Is it possible that the City of San Jose is withholding critical data and analysis that might disprove their own recommendation? News organizations should file their own FOIA requests on this issue to seek out the truth about what airlines actually said with reference to the effect on their flights under various temperature and weather conditions. The basis of the $940,000 make-shift
report is in direct conflict with the findings of the 2007 Airspace Capacity Report. Summer Temperatures used in 2007 used the Boeing 95% accuracy of 88 degree (high temperature days), while today’s study used Boeings 85% accuracy of 81.3 degrees average summer temperatures. Lowering temperatures in input data provides a more favorable output for those looking to raise building heights in the flight path at SJC. Since this report is based on alleged airline responses, they should be a matter of public record and not classified by the City and the Airport Director as being “Trade Secrets”. Our investigation has also found that Google’s was briefed on November 2nd, 2018. It showed a non-stop flight from San Jose to Newark NJ, flying a Boeing 737-900ER (Extended Range aircraft), being impacted with weight restrictions and 21 passengers being removed in the Winter, and 41
passengers being removed in summer months during South Flow Operations. Yet, the information given to the airport commission omitted the city and the number of passengers affected downplaying the effect this decision will have on East Coast NonStop Flights. Here is a timeline: Our research has uncovered that Google received an OEI briefing on November 2nd, 2018. Airport Administration had the opportunity to provide the SJ Airport Commission the same briefing but DID NOT do so at the SJ Airport Commission meeting on November 5th, 2018. Instead, Airport Administration waited 60+ days, until January 10, 2019 to provide the commission with specific OEI documents, just 4 days prior to the Commission meeting of 1/14/19. On 1/14/19 we had an OEI briefing and were expected to vote on the

issue, except a citizen filed a complaint over the publishing of our agenda, forcing a delay to the vote. A second special meeting was scheduled for Thursday, 1/24/19 for ACTION on the Airport’s Recommendation of Scenario #4 (complete elimination of “One Engine Inoperative” airspace over downtown San Jose. On 1/24/19 the Airport Commission Rejected the Recommendation of Scenario #4 and instead voted in favor of a compromise proposal, put forth by four Airport Commissioner’s known as Scenario #10B. However, the San Jose is moving forward with Scenario #4. The questions we should be asking is: Should San Jose International Airport be relegated back to a
“Regional Airport?” Do Bay Area residents want to see SJC lose its status as a Transoceanic International Airport? Is the public concerned that they may not be able to fly non-stop from SJC to the East Coast? The San Jose City Council is considering raising building heights and eliminating OEI (One Engine Inoperative) airspace for departing airlines during South Flow take-offs (Runway 12L/12R towards downtown) and a decision is scheduled to be made by City Council on Tuesday, February 26, 2019. The study, led by the Director of Aviation, DID NOT invite Airlines or Airline Pilots to be a part of the committee which is moving the proposal
forward. The committee met in private, outside of view of the public, and denied requests from Airport Commission members interested in attending their meetings, stating that the meetings were not open to the public. I was honored to present a commendation to Jalen Butcher for winning the San Jose Youth Entrepreneurship & Innovation Summit business competition. This was the last ceremonial item for 2018, and it was even more special for me to have members of my family present.

The Southside Community Center’s Dazzling Divas tap group is made up mostly of seniors who are active in their communities and love to dance. They perform at community centers and senior living facilities. In February, I invited them to treat us to a performance at our City Council meeting!
