RAW MATERIALS & STORAGE

Design considerations include: seasonality of demand, inventory levels for raw materials, packaging materials and finished product, flexibility to meet changing market conditions, future expansion, mechanized material and specialized handling and automation, returns and by-products, and ergonomic and worker safety issues.

FOOD PLANT CONSTRUCTION

Food plants must be constructed with cleanliness, sanitation and maintenance at the forefront of decisions related to methods and materials of construction.

PACKAGING SYSTEM DESIGN

The design and implementation of the packaging system must balance operational speed, crewing levels and material supply issues. Layout is impacted by material handling and operator line-of-sight requirements. Operator skill-set requirements, training, and the control system interface may impact overall line efficiency and reliability.

BUILDING ENVELOPE & ROOF SYSTEMS

The building envelope provides protection for the product within. It must insulate efficiently and control vapor flow while providing a durable interior and exterior surface. Roofing systems must address: weather tightness, vapor barrier, heat retardance, maintenance and repair, sanitation and aesthetics.

UTILITIES, CONTROLS & REFRIGERATION

Considerations include: air movement, building system controls, process-specific ventilation, airborne particulate, make-up air filtration and supply, plumbing, piping, utility services, drainage, water, fire protection, electrical loads, power distribution, refrigeration and process safety management.

WATER FLOW

Whether in an existing or a new food or beverage plant, water supply and wastewater disposal require new approaches to meet: availability, quality, cost, sustainability, environmental control, and community relations requirements.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainable design is an integrated process that is treated no differently than any other program element. Sustainable requirements are balanced against the budget to find the right solution for each item.

PLANT SAFETY & SECURITY

Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards analyze hazards, identify critical control points, and establish: preventive measures with critical limits for control points, procedures to monitor critical control points, corrective action, procedures to verify the system is working properly, and record keeping.

Virtual Design and Construction Upfront Commitment to VDC Reduces Time and Saves Money Later in the Project In the design and construction industry, adopting and utilizing virtual design and construction (VDC) technology allows Austin to better serve our clients. By providing layers of data not previously available, Autodesk tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, Plan 3D, Navisworks and BIM 360 Glue improve the efficiency and accuracy of projects through the entire project life cycle.

With VDC, Austin shows clients virtual 3D views of their designs long before they are constructed, providing a deeper understanding of the design and revealing what can’t be seen in standard 2D views.

This results in fewer changes after the design is complete, lowering project costs and allowing for better control of the project schedule.

An integrated VDC environment offers a detailed and powerful solution for your facility challenges with higher value, higher quality and reduced risk.

Virtual and Augmented Reality Beyond 3D modeling, Austin uses virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) to bring clients’ projects to life before they are constructed.

With VR, the entire 3D environment is digital and visual, allowing clients to “walk” inside and around their virtual facility. With AR, digital information, such as the building model, is overlaid in a real-world visual simulation.

These tools not only stir the imagination of what is possible, but provide greater collaboration between Austin’s design and construction teams and the client.
