by J B Priestley directed by Barrie Rutter Cleckleywyke, a town in the West Riding, 1908. The Helliwells, the Parkers and the Soppitts are highly respected pillars of their community but not for much longer. Married on the same day in the same chapel, they gather to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. The celebrations are short lived when they discover the vicar wasn’t licensed and they are actually not married. In fact, they have been living in sin for 25 years. See page 4

From 1965 to 1968 there wasn’t a bigger radio programme in Britain than the ground-breaking Round the Horne. For half an hour every Sunday afternoon, audiences of up to 15 million people would gather around the wireless to listen to Kenneth Horne and his merry crew get up to all sorts of mischief. With its infamous movie spoofs and hilarious regular characters such as Rambling Sid Rumpo, Charles and Fiona, J Peasemold Gruntfuttock, and Julian and Sandy, Round the Horne was one of the biggest and best radio comedy shows of all time, and still endures today, 50 years on.

The story centres around Horton the Elephant, who finds himself faced with a double challenge - not only must he protect his tiny friend Jojo (and all the invisible Whos) from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant in a story that makes you laugh and cry.

Levin is an idealistic man trying to find the meaning of life. Set 50 years after the events of War and Peace, Tolstoy explores themes of personal responsibility, fate and powerlessness through the two parallel lives. Both are pursuing happiness and defying convention, but one ends in tragedy and the other with a tantalising promise of hope. Bury Theatre Workshop returns to Theatre Royal with this powerful, passionate production.

Youth Theatre is the life-blood of a good theatre. At Theatre Royal our purpose is to facilitate workshops for young people run by experienced theatre professionals. Through the classes, members can have fun and express themselves in a friendly environment whilst developing key drama and life skills. If you are aged between 8 and 22 years and are interested in being part of something special, then get in touch!

YOUNG ASSOCIATE PROGRAMME

Theatre Royal also runs a Young Associate programme for people aged 18+ who are serious about pursuing a career in the arts. Whether it’s acting, directing, writing, marketing, administration, technical or creative learning you can do it here.
