WELCOME
The highlight of our year is our much-loved pantomime. After a record-breaking, award-nominated show last year, we are excited to bring you Snow White this Autumn.
Before that, we’ve got two great dramas. London Classic Theatre are touring Faith Healer (one of The Independent’s 40 best plays of all time) and Tilted Wig Productions present a reimagining of the classic horror story – Frankenstein.
We are celebrating East Anglian writers this season. We are collaborating with the wonderful High Tide Theatre to present Ghost Stories by Candlelight from the ‘witch counties’ of East Anglia. And Splinter is a poignant play about love and memory, written and performed by East Anglian artists.
From the Edinburgh Fringe, I’ve chosen Gabriel García Márquez’s darkly comic tale AVery Old Man with Enormous

“One of the great theatrical texts of our time… sublime language and nuance…”
Irish Times
By Brian Friel
Directed by Michael Cabot.
Frank Hardy has a gift. A gift of healing.
A frayed banner hangs outside a desolate village hall. The sick, the suffering and the desperate arrive from out of the wind and the rain. They come in search of restoration, a cure. They are promised ‘a performance’, an opportunity to spend an intimate moment with a mercurial showman, who offers hope and salvation to the afflicted.
Through the 1950s and 1960s, Hardy and his wife Grace travel to remote corners of Scotland and Wales, before eventually returning to Frank’s native Ireland. Accompanied by his manager Teddy, they move from village to village, bringing them an unpredictable mix of theatricality and the spiritual.
Using four enthralling monologues to interweave the stories of these three intriguing characters, Brian Friel takes us on an extraordinary journey of shifting perspectives and uncertain memories.
Brian Friel (1929-2015) was an award-winning Irish playwright and author. He is widely regarded as one of Ireland’s greatest dramatists, having written over 30 plays across six decades. His major works include Translations, DancingatLughansa, Molly Sweeney and Philadelphia,HereICome!

In a kitchen, in a theatre, two storytellers and their audience find something remarkable - a very old man with enormous wings. After consulting with the neighbour - who’s an expert on all things magic - the couple decide to shelter him in the chicken coop and feed him with food scraps. A wise woman says he’s an angel. The priest says he’s an imposter. Pilgrims flock to see him.
Inspired by Gabriel García Márquez’s darkly comic tale, the show taps into both the best and worst of mankind, wryly examining the human response to those who are weak, dependent, and different. Using a combination of music, puppetry and live video projection, this magic realist gem is brought to the stage with beautiful, strange, emotional richness.
