From the Director…

About ten years ago, my Mum saw a production of TWO WEEKS WITH THE QUEEN and made me promise her that one day I would stage it in Townsville. When the opportunity arose to once again direct The Bridge Project production as part of the Wizardz of Aus series, I knew immediately what show I wanted to do.

The enthusiasm, energy and fearlessness of this young cast has overwhelmed me and filled me with a tremendous sense of excitement for the future of theatre in Townsville. The cast, our team of young ‘consultants’ and our incredible creative and technical team (who still see the world with childlike wonder) reminded me that I am essentially a child trapped in a body galloping towards middle age – a fact that I’ve no doubt my Mum has known for some time. So thank you all for supporting these talented youngsters and thank you Mum for being right….again.

JAMES THOMASSON – TheatreiNQ Apprentice Actor

James has been a member of THEATREiNQ since 2010, appearing in the past four SHAKESPEARE UNDER THE STARS’ productions. James trains with the company as part of The Bridge Project, this year becoming one of the first THEATREiNQ Apprentices. In 2013, James appeared as Ben in X-STACY, Phillip in THE SHAPE OF THINGS and Malcolm in MACBETH. James was the 2013 recipient of the Martin Gibson Medal for most promising new talent and was an Assistant Drama coach at the Catholic Education Arts Festival, MULKADEE. James will take on the role of Romeo in this year’s SHAKESPEARE UNDER THE STARS, ROMEO AND JULIET in September.

ANNA WALLACE – TheatreiNQ Apprentice Actor

Anna is an ensemble member of THEATREiNQ training with the company as part of The Bridge Project and this year becomes one of the first THEATREiNQ Apprentices. Previous appearances with the company include Jenny in THE SHAPE OF THINGS, Weird Sister in MACBETH, Cecily Cardew in THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, Cordelia in KING LEAR, Anne Page in THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR and Princess Elizabeth in RICHARD III. Anna was the Assistant Drama Coach at this year’s Catholic Education MULKADEE Arts Festival and has been a Club Leader at THEATREiNQ’s annual CULTURE CLUB for the past two years. In 2011, Anna received the inaugural Martin Gibson Medal for promising young talent and in September will take on the role of Juliet in ROMEO AND JULIET as part of SHAKESPEARE UNDER THE STARS.

EMMA LAMBERTON – The Bridge Project (2nd Year)

Emma joined THEATREiNQ in 2012 working behind the scenes on WHEN THE RAIN STOPS FALLING and hasn’t looked back. She made her stage debut with the company in SHAKESPEARE UNDER THE STARS’ KING LEAR and joined The Bridge Project in 2013. Last year, Emma appeared in THEATREiNQ’s productions of X-STACY, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST and MACBETH. She will next be seen as Susannah Walcott in THEATREiNQ’s THE CRUCIBLE in June.

MICHAEL DORIS – The Bridge Project (2nd Year)

Michael is proud to be part of another THEATREiNQ production, previously appearing in 2010’s RICHARD III, 2013’s X-STACY and MACBETH. Michael was awarded the 2009 Regional Medal for Musical Theatre by the Trinity College of London. Last year, Michael completed an Associate Performance Diploma with the Trinity College and his fourth year of Medicine at JCU. Michael officially joins The Bridge Project this year and will continue his training with the company.

LACHLAN STEVENSON – The Bridge Project (1st Year)

Lachlan has studied drama with LA LUNA YOUTH ARTS since 2010. His performance in LITTLE BROTHER LITTLE SISTER saw him awarded Best Junior Actor at the FESTIVAL OF ONE ACT PLAYS last year. Lachlan first performed with THEATREiNQ in 2013 as Donalbain in MACBETH and this year Lachlan will continue his acting studies as part of THEATREiNQ’s The Bridge Project.

BRIE JURSS – Guest Actor

Brie is currently studying acting at the University of Southern Queensland in Toowomba. Growing up in Townsville, Brie appeared in PROPS YOUTH THEATRE’s THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE and participated in 2012’s FESTIVAL OF ONE ACT PLAYS, where she was awarded Best Female Actress Junior and the Karen Vane Memorial Bursary. Brie first appeared with THEATREiNQ in 2013’s XSTACY and we are delighted to have her join the company while on vacation from University studies.

THE BRIDGE PROJECT The Bridge Project is the brainchild of TheatreiNQ's Terri Brabon and Brendan O'Connor, who both ventured from Townsville to carve themselves careers in the professional theatre industry. With a genuine desire to assist regional emerging talent to launch careers in the mainstream industry, The Bridge Project was officially launched in 2012.

Through a series of masterclasses with guest industry professionals from Sydney & Melbourne, ongoing professional development, and involvement in professionally-driven local productions with TheatreiNQ, The Bridge Project aims to give our promising emerging talent the best start possible, on-going guidance and mentorship throughout their careers. Members of the Project are now studying further afield with Brittany Santariga & Cameron Hooper at WAAPA, Perth, Joseph Raggatt at NIDA, Sydney, Sarah Murr & Spencer Cliff at Griffith Uni, Brisbane, Badai Muftah-Flynn at the Actors Centre, Sydney, Jayden Popik at Film & TV Studio International, Brisbane and Joseph Hallows at Actors College of Theatre & TV, Sydney.

In 2014, The Bridge Project launched a third year Apprenticeship and a Technical Theatre Strand introducing 10 new members to the team.
