The moniker “Shakey Bill” has become a familiar term for anyone who has been involved in Townsville’s Shakespeare Under the Stars. The term was coined by cast member John Goodson during The Taming of the Shrew in 2002. At last count, there have been over 200 “Shakey Bills”. Some have appeared only once but many return time and time again. Terri Brabon holds the record with 14 on-stage appearances as well as 10 Directing Credits.

Jean-Pierre’s original concept for the Annual Shakespeare was to offer his current professional ensemble the opportunity of working on a full cast Outdoor Shakespeare by combining their skills and experience with the highest calibre of community actors as well as offering roles for actors in training at what was then JCU’s Bachelor of Theatre Course.

TheatreiNQ proudly continues this tradition and each show includes Guest Professionals from out of town, the Company’s Professionals and Apprentices, TheatreiNQ’s local ensemble and young actors training with The Bridge Project. The end result is a sense of family and an ensemble that has spanned the years.

Behind the Scenes is no different. Our Event Team return year after year to lend their talents to this special show. For over a decade, Cuisine to Go have delivered up mouth-watering meals, Ede Events have sponsored the seating and tents, Bob Smith has put up the scaffolding and the Townsville City Council has allowed us to present Shakespeare in the most beautiful outdoor environments our town has to offer.

As the old saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child and at 20 Years Old, this child is very grateful to all the members of this wonderful village.
