From the Director Ten years ago, we started on a journey with a bunch of aspiring young actors called The Bridge Project. It’s hard to believe that ten years later, I would be here directing a cast of those ‘Bridge Kids’, filled with pride at how bloody good they are. I’m not really a party person, so when thinking of ways to celebrate this milestone of The Bridge Project, I knew I didn’t want a party - what I wanted to do was ‘work’. During the Covid lockdown of 2020, we reconnected with a bunch of Bridge Alumni now scattered around the country, doing online training and one of the plays we worked on was Orphans by Dennis Kelly. I had wanted to do this play for many, many years and when I saw Brittany, James & Lachlan work on these characters, I was really excited by the prospect of working with them on this script. But I also wanted to build something more than just a show. I wanted to offer them an opportunity to learn how to start developing work for themselves, to form their own ensemble and to give them the confidence to do, well, basically, what Brendan and I did with TheatreiNQ. And from this idea, the mentorship experience began and Stacks On Theatre was born. This little team have helped build the studio you are watching the show in, literally from the ground up. By day, they helped Brendan transform an empty, cement floored warehouse space into a black box theatre studio and by night, they rehearsed with me to create this incredible show. The past five weeks have been incredible. Exhausting and exhilarating all at once. Words cannot express how proud I am of The Bridge Project.
