Welcome to an exciting brand new 2016 season at Theatre 29! As we enter our seventeenth theatrical season, we look back in amazement at how far we have come. Recent shows at Theatre 29 have played to record-breaking capacity and this phenomenal success has made Theatre 29 tickets the hottest in the area. With this kind of clamor for tickets for our shows, becoming part of our family of season ticket holders makes good sense. The quality and professionalism of Theatre 29 productions were recognized by the Desert Theatre League (representing over 30 Regional Producing Organizations). Theatre 29 received an astounding 31 nominations! (14 for YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, 7 for AN IDEAL HUSBAND, 4 for THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD, 3 for URINETOWN, THE MUSICAL, 2 for WAIT UNTIL DARK and 1 for THE 39 STEPS. Our 2016 season is sure to continue this trend of success with five popular and well-known full-stage productions, including a special holiday offering and a revamped Halloween haunt, as well as our outstanding Summer Youth Theater Program.

PERFORMING ARTS EDUCATION

CONTENT GUIDE CONTENT ASSESSMENTS AND AGE RECOMMENDATIONS We offer this information to help patrons decide which shows are appropriate for themselves and those they may bring to the theatre. The assessments are subjective, so we encourage our patrons to do their own research. Note that some performances can run over 2 1/2 hours, which may not be ideal for a younger child with a limited attention span. THE SUNSHINE BOYS is recommended for ages 12+

The Sunshine Boys contains mild language and comedic adult innuendo (but in a vaudevillian style that is tame by today’s standards). It is reflective of the characters portrayed (aging Vaudeville actors) and the times they came from.

Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID is recommended for all ages

Theatre 29’s Summer Youth Theatre program is dedicated to providing high quality performing arts preparation for children and teens We foster, train, and empower aspiring artists who wish to “spread their creative wings” in a safe environment.

The famous Disney animated movie musical about Arial, the mermaid, has become a staple of any family’s library. This is a great family musical, entertaining to the youngest and oldest of us. Timeless music, great visual production value, a truly evil villain and love conquers all! This will be the debut of this fresh from Broadway musical in the Inland Empire!

DON’T HUG ME I’M PREGNANT is recommended for ages 10+

Don’t Hug Me, I’m Pregnant is one of the latest offerings in the Don’t Hug me franchise from the frigid depths of Bunyan Bay, Wisconsin. Theatre 29 audiences were treated to A Don’t hug Me Christmas Carol in 2012, so most of the same characters will be recognized in this show. There really isn’t any language to speak of, though it uses local colloquialisms in lieu of “swearing” such as “I’m hosed”.

It’s silly and a lot of fun.

THE SECRET GARDEN is recommended for ages 8+

The Secret Garden, based on the classic 1911 novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, is a moralistic tale of two abandoned children (one through her parent’s death, the other through neglect of a grieving father), who find themselves through resurrecting an neglected English garden and heal, not only themselves, but those around them. There is no objectionable language., nor adult situations. The early parts of the tale are a bit dark, which might be unsettling for small children.

RESURGENCE Halloween Haunt is recommended for Ages 12+ The Theatre 29 Halloween Haunt event is back and, as those who have gone through it in the past know, it is made up of disturbing images (It is rather the point!) Pre-teen and younger are suggested to partake with adult supervision.

Small children this is NOT suggested for!

A CHRISTMAS STORY is recommended for Ages 8+ The classic holiday staple takes to the stage, leg lamp and all! There is some mild language and a bully to terrorize the kids on stage and, of course, the infamous frozen tongue on the flagpole. A classic for generations, a good family show!

JANUARY 15—FEBRUARY 13, 2016 Kings of comedy, Willie Clark and Al Lewis, aka The Sunshine Boys, haven’t spoken to each other in years. Once a fantastic duo, the two have since been locked in a feud for years. When CBS call for the vaudevillian greats to be re-united for a nostalgic History of Comedy TV special, past grudges resurface as they take center stage once more. Ageing ailments aside, can this legendary double-act overcome their differences for one last show? Old rivalry and vintage hilarity abound in this classic comedy of showbiz and friendship.

Ralphie pleads his case before his mother, his teacher and even Santa Claus himself, at Higbee's Department Store. The consistent response: "You'll shoot your eye out!" All the elements from the beloved motion picture are here, including the family's temperamental exploding furnace; Scut Farkas, the school bully; the boys' experiment with a wet tongue on a cold lamppost; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin; Ralphie's father winning a lamp shaped like a woman's leg in a net stocking; Ralphie's fantasy scenarios and more. A Christmas Story is destined to become a theatrical holiday perennial.
