WELCOME!
THEATRE 29 Attn: Subscription Sales 73637 Sullivan Rd Twentynine Palms Ca 92277
Welcome to a brand new season at Theatre 29! As we enter our fifteenth theatrical year, we look back at how far we have come. Recent shows at Theatre 29 have all played to record-breaking capacity and this phenomenal success has made Theatre 29 tickets the hottest in the area. Theatre 29 joined the Desert Theatre League towards the end of their judging season. But with only two shows judged in their 2012-2013 season, we picked up 15 nominations (9 for Ragtime and 6 for Gypsy). Our 2014 season is sure to continue this trend of success with seven full-stage productions. With this kind of clamor for tickets for our shows, becoming part of our family of season ticket holders makes good sense.
As our offerings evolve, so does our capacity to service our patrons better! In addition to our highly successful online ticketing avenue through www.theatre29.org, also note the QR bar code printed next to the description of each season production in the brochure. Use your Android smartphone or IPhone (with a bar code reader app) to scan the code and purchase tickets from your device! These codes will also be printed on all posters, so patrons can purchase on the go! Also, for the mobile user, download the WALLETINI app from I-Tunes or Google Play app market and purchase tickets, check out other offerings in the area as well as allowing transfer of tickets, when buying for a group! But, we never forget the human touch, for those who prefer to deal one on one with our skilled Box Office personnel! Enjoy the season and, again, thanks for your patronage!

SHAKESPEARE IN HOLLYWOOD A Comedy Farce by KEN LUDWIG Directed by JOHN WRIGHT November 21 — December 20, 2014 Sunday Matinees November 30—December 14
It's 1934, and Shakespeare's most famous fairies, Oberon and Puck, have magically materialized on the Warner Bros. Hollywood set of Max Reinhardt's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Instantly smitten by the glitz and glamour of show biz, the two are ushered onto the silver screen to play (who else?) themselves. With a little help from a feisty flower, blonde bombshells, movie moguls, and arrogant "asses" are tossed into loopy love triangles, with raucous results. The mischievous magic of moviedom sparkles in this hilarious comic romp. A hilarious farce from the author of “Lend Me A Tenor”.
THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST A Comedy by OSCAR WILDE Directed by BUTCH PELFREY January 10—February 8, 2014 Sunday Matinees January 19 & February 2
Country gentleman Jack Worthing invents a younger brother, Ernest, whom he pretends to be when he visits the city. This gives him free reign to pursue the beautiful Gwendolen. Meanwhile his city-based friend, Algernon Moncrieff, invents a poorly relative, Bunbury, whom he pretends to visit in the country in order that he can leave his dull city existence behind for a bit of fun and frivolity. One day Algernon pretends to be Ernest and visits Jack's pretty charge, Cecily, in the country, which leads to all kinds of confusion about identity. Obviously, Jack is not happy, but when his own deceptive behaviour is called into question, the scene is ripe for much farce and hilarity. Oscar Wilde’s biting wit and masterful satire make The Importance of Being Earnest, a must see!
THE FARNDALE AVENUE HOUSING ESTATE TOWN’S WOMEN’S GUILD DRAMATIC SOCIETY MURDER MYSTERY A Comedy by DAVID MCGILLIVRAY & WALTER ZERLIN JR. Directed by MARTY NEIDER February 28 — March 29, 2014 Sunday Matinees March 9 & 23
JULY 14—27 Theatre 29 proudly presents our first annual Summer Youth Theatre programs for children age 18 and under. This two week intensive program will train young performers in the art of acting, stagecraft, choreography and all the elements that go into theatrical production. The course will culminate in a live stage performance, involving all participants!
PRODUCTION DATES: JULY 25th & 26th
Every drama group has experienced the horrors of what can go wrong on opening night, and the ladies of the F.A.H.E.T.G. Dramatic Society are no different, with the possible exception that almost everything that could happen does! The scenery collapses, cues are missed, lines forgotten, and the sound effects take on a strange note at times, as the ladies present their ambitious evening's entertainment with the cunning whodunit, "Murder At Checkmate Manor." And just in case the audience should get bored there's a Film and Fashion Show and Murder Mystery Quiz, complete with a Prize! The crunch comes in the denouement when the "murderer", about to be revealed, has to rush home to bandage up an injured daughter. But Mrs. Reece, doyenne of the group, rises above the slings and arrows of outrageous dramatics to save the situation and provide the final inventive twist.

A New Nunsense Musical by DAN GOGGIN
Sunday Matinees August 24—September 7 NUNSET BOULEVARD follows the latest exploits of The Little Sisters of Hoboken, who have been invited to perform at the Hollywood Bowl. They are thrilled at the prospect until they arrive and realize that they are booked into the Hollywood Bowl -A-Rama — a bowling alley with a cabaret lounge — and not the famed 'Bowl' they were imagining. Things do not go as planned, as The Sisters must contend with announcements from the bowling alley public address system as well as the activity on the lanes. However, The Sisters catch wind of the fact that there are auditions across the street for roles in his new movie musical about the life of Dolores Hart, the famous movie star who became a nun. The Sisters, thinking they are naturals for parts, race off to audition during their show's intermission. Will Hoboken lose The Sisters to the glitz and glamour of Tinseltown?" Great family fun, NUNSENSE always delivers!
Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps, a fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre! This 2-time Tony® and Drama Desk Award-winning treat is packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters (played by a ridiculously talented cast of 4), an on-stage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers and some good old-fashioned romance! In The 39 Steps, a man with a boring life meets a woman with a thick accent who says she's a spy. When he takes her home, she is murdered. Soon, a mysterious organization called "The 39 Steps" is hot on the man's trail in a nationwide manhunt that climaxes in a death-defying finale! A riotous blend of virtuoso performances and wildly inventive stagecraft, The 39 Steps amounts to an unforgettable evening of pure pleasure!
A DOLL’S HOUSE
MEL BROOKS’ YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN
A Classic Drama by HENRIK IBSEN
Book by MEL BROOKS and THOMAS MEEHAN
Directed by KURT SCHAUPPNER
Music and Lyrics by MEL BROOKS
June 20 — July 19, 2014
Directed by GARY DAIGNEAULT & ED WILL
Sunday Matinees June 27 & July 19
October 3 — November 1, 2014 Sunday Matinees October 12—26
The earliest of Ibsen's social-problem plays, A Doll's House catapulted him to international recognition. This epochal drama of marriage and the individual portrays a controlling husband Torvald Helmer and his wife Nora, a submissive young woman who, when their idealized home life collapses, comes to the realization that she must finally close the door on her husband, children, and life in "a doll's house" in order to find and live as her true self. Combining technique and content in the play's realism, he employed natural dialogue and situations; insisting on the logical necessity of the outcome in a time of women's growing discontent with the social reverberations of Nora's slamming the door as she leaves Torvald continues to the present day. Gripping drama from a true master.
IT’S ALIVE! The hilarious musical comedy is a wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Frankenstein legend based on Mel Brooks’ film masterpiece. The story follows young Dr. Frankenstein (that’s Fronkensteen) as he attempts to bring a corpse to life, but not without scary and hilarious complications. Don’t miss the kooky cast of characters delivering all your favorite moments from the classic film - hunchback sidekick Igor (that’s Eye-gor),the curvaceous lab assistant Inga, the stern housekeeper Frau Blucher (NEIGH!), madcap fianceé Elizabeth and of course, the tap dancing monster. With eye-popping special effects on all new show-stopping numbers including, “The Transylvania Mania,” “He Vas My Boyfriend” and “Puttin’ On The Ritz,” you’ll have a monstrously good time! *Show contains adult themes and language. Some material may be inappropriate for children 13 and under.
