Physical Education: Core course – PE.2

Students have one double period per week. The course does not lead to a GCSE examination.

Why study this subject?
• It allows you to experience several different sporting activities in more practical situations. • The idea is that you leave school with the knowledge of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. • Involvement in sport usually requires characteristics that employers are interested in, such as motivation, responsibility and the ability to work as part of a team. This course aims to encourage such qualities.
What will you study? Year 10
Students follow an option programme of study based on the following performance pathways: • competition • aesthetic • health-related fitness • leadership • recreational and alternative sports. The focus of the study is on advanced tactics and strategies, the role of the official and the importance of exercise and activity to personal, social and mental health and wellbeing.
Year 11
Students will choose a routeway of activities that they will cover throughout the year. This will either be Games Activities, Recreational Activities or Aesthetic Activities. There might well be an opportunity for some of these activities to use facilities in the local community. Examples of activities are Football, Badminton, Basketball, Fitness Suite and Dance.
Something to consider ….
You will be required to perform practically within this subject and bring the correct PE kit to each lesson.
