Change of Perspec/ve Galerie des Écuries Manège Fonck From September 7 to September 18 Bip 2016 - Liège

Change of perspective As part of BIP Liège, at Galerie des Écuries the exhibition “Change of Perspective” presents five emerging artists. Jolien Dirix, Charlotte Koenen, Johannes Langkamp, Miriam Sentler and Christina Nickel. Artists who embrace photography in an experimental and playful way. The process behind the image, the perspective of the movements, the photogram, the juxtaposition – are all in the spotlight. The artists show their own relationship with photography through video, installation and performance and allow the viewers to stop for a second to ask themselves: What are you looking at? which at the end... Is this not what photography should challenge you to do?

Thanks to Thanks to all the artists, because without artists and art there is no exhibition. Thanks to Gilles, Anja and the BIP Liège team for helping with building up, and the BIP to give us this opportunity. Merci!

Jolien Dirix  Transient 2015  Transient is a temporary loss of all memory. Performance: attaching images over each other, every 2 minutes. Timing: 6 hours and 18 minutes Format images: 20 x 30.

Charlotte Koenen Photogram (liquid soap), 2016 A photogram is a photographic image made by placing objects directly onto the surface of a light-sensitive material such as photographic paper. Because the object is in close contact with the surface during its exposure to light, the scale of the object remains unchanged in the image. The emphasis is placed on the transparency of the object, which becomes visible as gradations in gray-scale. In this work the objects appear in a fluid form, determining their shape by their own material properties. The paper carrying the image floats in a bath. This causes the image to slowly dissolve from the paper into the surrounding liquid.

Johannes Langkamp Perspektivwechsel, 2015 The series Perspektivwechsel connects seamlessly with Langkamp’s research in which the camera is the protagonist. The artist is interested in the possibilities and limitations of the camera in relation to space. How does the camera record space? What is the reach of the frame? In what way does the camera distort our perception of reality? Langkamp conducts playful experiments resulting in brief video sketches. These sketches form the basis of installations in which he literally draws his video work into the space. The surprising results make us look at our environment afresh and anew.

Miriam Sentler

‘Cityscape' video loop (2016)

'Çityscape' is a merged video, made from a few of the videos received after asking individuals from all over the world for their window view. From far, the video acts like one city but standing close the faults in perspective become visible. The work plays with the idea of being able to see the whole world at once, when looking out of the window.
