Does Your Sense of Fashion Determine Your Reputation

Girls fashion at Elk Grove High School is important and often times, it affects your image with others. Do you have to dress like everyone else to be accepted? Here at Elk Grove High School, the answer is yes. Trendy styles are always changing, and you better be ready to keep up.

The most common type of jeans are ripped boyfriend jeans that sit a little off the hips.

Along with the jeans, you have a cute crop top that shows some of your stomach with Birkenstocks on your feet. Maybe some cute accessories to go with it? Duh, of course. You should probably wear your hair down with a full face of makeup, but DON’T forget… your highlight must be poppin’ and your eyebrows on fleek. Your backpack should be a designer name and it probably won’t fit any of your books. So in that case, rely on your locker or have sore arms by the end of the day. Many

people will look at you differently if you follow the trends of fashion rather than just getting to know you for YOU. If you want to be thought of as a trendy girl then yes, I guess you should follow these protocols.

But, if you want to be true to yourself and true to your own values, morals, and style, you shouldn’t. Don’t let the talk of others influence you to do things that you aren’t totally comfortable with. Fashion trends shouldn’t make girls feel “weird” or not “cool” if they don’t follow them.

Everyone should be accepted no matter their clothing choice. Not everybody has the same privileges and many would understand if they didn’t just judge from the outside.

Fashion trends are an ongoing chore and, if you want to be known as “one of those girls”, you better be ready to hit the latest stores.

Oh and don’t forget about the crazy amount of money spent to keep up on the latest styles.

As I observed the students at lunch, I saw that most Elk Grove High students have Jansport backpacks. It made me wonder what makes the Jansport brand so popular.

While shopping for a back pack, quality and style are most important to me. Jansport is known as a popular brand among teenage students because of the variety of styles and colors. It’s appealing to parents because they are widely available in stores. The variety and availability is convenient, but what sets Jansport apart from its competitors is the lifetime guarantee. What do you do with your backpack if it breaks? If you don’t have a Jansport, you would be out of luck. Quality material is a key factor in maintaining standards and remaining a top brand of backpacks. Unoriginality in Hollywood Today

by Daniel Thomas, Staff Hey! Are you excited for Star Wars: The Last Jedi? Or Avengers: Infinity War? The It remake? How about Toy Story 4? Do you see a pattern here? Most of the biggest films of this year are sequels, superhero movies, sequels to superhero movies, remakes, reboots, or spin-offs of any of the options above, but there’s a reason for that. Film has evolved from an immature form of media to a highly respected art form. However, even though film has been treated better, general audiences have lowered their opinions on the medium.

Movies are a treat, and they pretty much have always been, but since movie prices have gone up over the past few years, the regular person probably isn’t going to risk their money on a movie they may or may not

like. Also, with cable television, Netflix, and other movie streaming services becoming more mainstream, theaters are becoming less relevant. So to keep being relevant, they improve their seating and the experience overall and push out new movies that they know people will want to see. Why go spend more than $20 on some artsy, slow-paced independent film by a nobody, when you can go see Star Wars? And that’s where the money is.

Hollywood cares more about money than making a new and experimental well-made product. Movies are a lot more expensive now. One wrong move could make them lose millions, so it’s best for them to play it safe. Although the big movie studios tend to take the shortest path to make the

most money, there are filmmakers and actors who still believe in film as an art form, such as Quentin Tarantino, David Linklater, and Edgar Wright. Some of them, like Ryan Gosling, Adam Levine, and even Disney, will make the big movies so they can take a pay cut to make more meaningful films. It becomes the responsibility of the moviegoer to seek out smaller, independent movies.

This year alone there has been “Get Out”, “A Ghost Story”, and “The Big Sick” among other unique, well-reviewed options. There is a supply and demand situation here. If moviegoers spend their money on more original movies, then the studios will work to provide them.

Religious Differences

Have you ever wondered “what happens after life?” Or how about “what is the reason for my life?” I am not going to tell you which religion is the correct one, but I will give you factual evidence on the differences between all of them. Let’s start off and talk about the five most practiced religions in the world: Christianity (2.1 billion followers); Islam (1.3 billion followers); non-religious people (1.1 billion); Hinduism (900 million followers); and finally with Buddhism (376 million people). All these different religions/ beliefs are superficially similar, but still fundamentally different. This means all the religions/ beliefs have a source of knowledge that they all claim to be true. They have a belief of what will happen after our passing and with that knowledge comes hope.

The only problematic situation is the misconceptions. For instance, Christianity’s basis for their religion is how Jesus is the Son of God who came down in flesh to die on the cross and was resurrected on the third day to save ALL of our sins. While Islam does fully believe in Jesus’ life and death, it only views him as a prophet instead of the man of God who saved us. This isn't just relevant in the beliefs of Islam, but in fact with all or most religions. Another example is how Christians believe in the trion God, or the one God with three totally distinct persons, while Hinduism believes in and gives devotion to various gods and goddesses. Not all religions all relate to each other though. They are similar, but religions such as Buddhism has its own form of oneness to god.

They have a belief to “earn your way to heaven” and have a non-antagonistic mindset which usually can effect their way of life dramatically.

With all of this said, just know you aren't obligated to join any religion or belief. But if you do choose to go on the route of religion, do the research first and make sure you know that your choice is the correct one. “If I’m wrong about God, I’ve wasted my life. Christianity is the opposite of religion because of how salvation is received. Religion means that one works for their salvation; whereas, in a relationship with Christ, loving Him and accepting him is what PROMISES salvation and an eternity of perfection. Religion is based on a set of manmade rules, but Christians attempt to live the life that Jesus did while He was on Earth, and follow His teachings, not a strict set of earthly rules. God desires for our love. He wants us, He longs to talk to us through prayer. He yearns to spend an eternity with us, and most importantly, He wants us to make Him our greatest priority. That is a relationship, not a religion.
