The best time of the year has finally arrived... FALL!!! This time of the year is filled with grand festivities, vibrant colors, lots of sweaters, pumpkins, delicious food, amazing weather, and best of all, a week long break from school.

Fall is the best season that we get to experience. The leaves change to beautiful colors of orange, red, brown, and yellow, the heat from summer becomes cold mornings and perfect evenings, and the cozy sweaters come out. Fall means outings to nearby pumpkin patches, where you can take fall photos, enjoy caramel apples, find big or small pumpkins, and enjoy quality time with your friends and family.

The festivities that come with fall generally mean that there are delicious meals, most notably, on Thanksgiving, the best dinner all year long. All the food that you can imagine can be found in the middle of the table and what is better than that?! Could anything get better than the savory Thanksgiving food, you ask, and the answer is yes, Thanksgiving dessert! With apple pie, pumpkin pie, cakes, and ice cream, there is absolutely no better

way to end a feast than with desserts as flavorful as these.

Personally my favorite part of fall is the week long break where we get to recover from the 4 long months of school that we had to endure. It is a week that is used to relax, but also go out, enjoy family time and adventure. The best adventures can be taken in fall when the world around us is the most beautiful. We walk out of our doors and the beautiful falling leaves can be seen, the chilly breeze brushes past us, and the morning sunrises are more vibrant than ever.

For all these very reason, fall is the absolute best season that we all get to experience. It is not as hot as the summer and not as cold as the winter, and the colors, food, and temperature are better than the spring. Fall is PERFECT!!!!

It’s fall, y’all, and I hope that you all are able to experience the perfection of the season.

No one can deny the fact that the online platform, Youtube, has a significant impact in our modern world.

Determination to Achieve

Determination.

Defined as the act of coming to a decision or of fixing or settling a purpose.

Many of us take the next step because we know we have to, but there is no better way of moving forward, than to move with a purpose and a set goal. We have to set a location and move forward towards it step by step. We need to move with passion and keep in mind that there will always be barriers. We have to keep fighting through to the end and get back up when we fall.

We can’t let previous failures hold us down and make us believe that every time will be like the last.

Pain doesn’t own you and failure doesn’t define you…unless you give it the right to.

To get to where you want to be, you first need to go into every goal knowing there will be distractions. Don’t let them catch you off guard.

Distractions can be something as small as that device sitting next to us, holding something as large as the world’s opinions about our own lives.

Or better yet, it can show you the prime moments of someone else’s life through posted pictures on media and make you feel like you’re going the complete opposite way of your goal. When in reality, that was one moment that managed to make it into the eyes of the world. So first things first, get off your social media. Don’t look for ways

to better yourself by comparing yourself to someone who does the same exact thing because you already have what you’re looking for and it’s inside of you. You just need to expose it.

There will be times where our mind is telling us, “What are you doing. You know you’re trying to do what isn’t possible.” And we cave in! We cave in to our inner thoughts, (that only perceive the worse!) and we believe that this thing we are trying to achieve is so far away and out of our reach. Otherwise we’re going gravity against gravity and we are moving nowhere except into a state of feeling worthless and like a constant failure. With a mindset like this, it is out of reach.

If we are hoping to achieve something, we must first believe that we can.

There are always going to be distractions that are awaiting behind and around us, only trying to make us miss every shot that we can possibly take. And there will always be sources depleting our every ounce of courage we have just to keep us back. There will be stones we’ll trip over and walls we’ll have to climb up, but that’s only because something worth functioning for IS NOT going to be easy to achieve. But when all is said and done, we will be able to look back on that mountain we’re standing on and say, “Wow…I really did do it.” And we will thank ourselves for not giving up every time we were told we couldn’t do it.

“I Want to Be a Purse”

Your child looks up at you and says, “When I grow up, I want to be a purse,” which is an odd, imaginary, preposterous answer to that common question that you laugh off.

However, there is a company in the United Kingdom that makes many items from human skin, often these are custom made for their clientele. This company, called Human Leather makes purses, belts, wallets, and shoes all from human skin.

This company has a “small but highly discerning clientele” and only makes a

specific number of products per year. Their website assures us that it is legal and organically sourced from people who have donated skin to the company. Human Leather even rewards the family of the donor handsomely.

Why human skin? This company exclaims that human skin is free of defects which makes this type of leather so desirable.

Human leather is supposedly the softest and smoothest of the animalia kingdom and, historically, has been used as book covers

and has been used to make choice clothing items. However, such items have fallen out of practice and have become a taboo subject.

Humans, cows, dogs, minks, foxes, raccoons, and other animals all have products made from their hides, so being a purse is a possibility for a human. Although disturbing to think about someone else using your skin as an accessory or common footwear, it is nevertheless a possibility.

No one can deny the fact that the online platform, Youtube, has a significant impact in our modern world. Creators also known as Youtube stars range from DIY projects to gaming. Each creator caters to an audience with a variety of videos. There are many Youtube stars that have risen from the website to become famous millionaires.

Here’s a list of a few online stars that have surged over the years: Felix Kjellberg, also known as Pewdiepie, has been on the site since April 29, 2010. His humor in his gaming videos with a growing 57 million subscribers has outbursts and unfiltered profanities; he has a major influence upon the video game industry as the highest subscribed creator. He reviews and comments on games he plays in front of his audience. His net worth is approximately $125 million. Kjellberg began playing indie games with personal commentary, but in recent times, his style in making videos has greatly changed. He has been dropped from his network, Maker Studios, for anti-semitic content. Recently, he used a racial slur which has gained major backlash all over Twitter and has stirred mixed opinions over his integrity and character.

News has been a major controversy in current media. On Youtube, two creators have had a major influence. Philip DeFranco runs the channel, The Philip DeFranco Show, which gives a platform to start an American conversation. His 5 day show allows him to interact with individuals from all over the country about sensitive issues and controversies. Beginning his channel in September 15, 2006, DeFranco has since gained more than 5 million subscribers.

People have enjoyed his show, giving them a space to give their own opinion. As of 2017, his net worth is of around 8 million dollars.

Fine Bros Entertainment is another channel that has grown exponentially since its creation.With a 16 million fan base, the company makes reaction videos with people of all ages. Topics include food, current controversies, technology, etc. Since June 4, 2007, the brand has also done skits and recap

videos alongside the reaction videos. They have a net worth of 10 million dollars. A slight controversy with this channel was their attempt to trademark all “reaction” videos with a notion to trademark the word “react”.

A huge dispute broke in within the Youtube community against this action. This dispute has caused outrage because this scandal made their company look money hungry.

Ryan Higa is seen as Asian empowerment with his channel nigahiga. Since starting in July 20, 2006, Higa has gained a massive following of more than 20 million subscribers. This content is filled with comedy containing puns, pop culture references, and creative challenges. He has done shows with his production company in foreign countries such as Singapore and the Philippines. His net worth is approximately 10 million dollars.

After the termination of the platform of Vine, two major “Viners” have moved their following to Youtube. The Ohio brothers, Jake Paul and Logan Paul, have made their mark on the site with their massive presence.

Logan Paul’s channel, TheOfficialLoganPaul, primarily composes of skits with a vlog channel on the side. Alongside with his Youtube career, the oldest Paul wants to act, making some guest appearances and gaining a few roles in films. Logan Paul and the “Logang” have gained nearly 12 million followers since he joined in 2015. In addition, Jake Paul has began his own channel with “Team 10”. With 10 million subscribers, Paul primarily does insane challenges and vlogs.

His recent actions have caused a major dispute over his fame. Huge fires, crowds, claims of abuse, and the ban of vlogging in Los Angeles have surrounded Paul and his Team 10. Paul used to be in Disney’s show Bizzarvark. Jake Paul has a net worth of 4 million dollars while his brother has a net worth of 3.5 million dollars.

The reign of online stars have began their rise to fame from their massive fanbase and will soon be the next major influences for generations ahead. Just as there are celebrities in Hollywood, Youtube stars will soon be the center of attention.

The News Effect on Society and Social Media By

The news is just one of the many social networks that emotionalize or emphasize any potential negative outcome of a story.

There are both negative and positive attitudes towards it, but my question is what would we do without information of what's going on in our city, state, country, or even the world itself? It can affect you negatively causing anxiety, sadness, disgust, or even anger. It can affect you positively through weather reports, traffic reports, or crimes that were recently reported in your local area. News headlines usually determine how many people will actually read or watch the event, so that's mainly where misdirection or perception takes place and changes the way people think of the report.

Society, as well as social media, is affected daily by the news. First off, society is affected because of mass media and the influence to feel an emotional change, such as attitude and behavior. Second, social media is affected by the amount of people who view the content.

Nowadays, more people are getting news from social media and believing most of what's seen or heard.

How can you tell if the events being talked about are actually happening? In an article I read called, “How Social Media is Reshaping News,” the author states social media doesn't always facilitate conversation around important issues of the day. A study they did shows that people were willing to discuss their opinion on social media rather than in person. An example of a news event that caused problems or gossip recently was

how NFL football players kneel and or lock arms instead of pledging allegiance to the US flag. This caused an outburst on social media because our president, Donald Trump, posted his displeasure on Twitter and caused thousands of people to react in many different ways. This event has an effect on society because many people were confused.

Was this because of racism, terrorism, any crime in the country, or just for attention?

This is just one example of how news can affect society as well as social media.

In conclusion, the force exerted by a media message changes one's individual beliefs or one's emotions toward the topic.It is common for social networks to emphasize their outcomes of stories and change people's perceptions. It is truly up to you if you believe any of the stories that are being broadcasted 24/7 worldwide, but I do not and will never believe a story unless I see it with my own two eye

Negative Effects of Social Media on Adolescents

Having your child glued on to his/her phone, inside texting friends or scrolling through Instagram all day isn’t an ideal way to spend the weekend. Many teenagers today have lost their connection with nature, they are constantly strapped onto their phone and wasting the beautiful sunshine outside. Instead of trying to get the right Snapchat geofilter, why not just enjoy the beauty of nature? Teens are constantly posting their status updates or pictures of their recent vacation, but does this have a bad effect on their communication skills with other people? Hiding behind a screen makes it easy to say something simply through a text, however actually talking to them in person is harder than it seems. Having the majority of teenagers using text messages and direct messages through their phones is concerning for the future generation, that these teenagers lose out on conversing in real life, developing skills to communicate

with other people they are not comfortable with. For example, when applying for a job, how is this teen going to interact with a customer, if he doesn’t know the basics of social interactions when he is always communicating through his phone?

Through many teens miss out on the beauty of nature and essential communication skills, but they also waste in opportunity in an intimate relationship. As technology advances, the less teenagers tend to get. Some teenagers are more comfortable at home texting or facetiming their friends rather than socializing with each other in real life. Genuinely spending time with someone can simply just be grabbing coffee, watching a TV show, or even talking in the park together can provide an enjoyable experience with each other, which is way more satisfying than anything technology can provide us. Building cherished memories with someone and a close relationship is

more important than updating your status on Twitter or Facebook. However some of us are constantly busy with our frantic lives and don’t have much time to spend with someone. Although, technology overrides these problems with the conveniency of meeting up with a person and having a conversation through Facetime or Skype, it cannot replace the memories you created with another person. Even if we are too busy or lazy to spend time with another person it requires extra effort from both people to develop a strong connection with one another. Overall, the negative effects on adolescents with social medial outweighs the positive effects. If social media becomes even bigger in our daily lives, how will this affect our children and even our country?

Horror entertainment has become very popular over the years and portrayed through many mediums ranging from books, films, shows and video games. While it is meant to entertain and produce adrenaline for audiences, those effects have been known to cause negative psychological damage for the unprepared, which in turn has also led to inspiring copycat killers who have attacked and even murdered to be like the fictional characters they want to portray.

An example of this took place in November of 2001 in Gerpinnes Belgium.

Truck driver Thierry Jaradin had brutally murdered 15-year old Alisson Cambier by stabbing her to death after failed attempts to make amorous advances on her. The incident reportedly happened after she stopped by his house to exchange some videotapes and simply talk, seeing that they were good neighborhood friends. When Jaradin’s flirtatious attempts were rejected, he resorted to killing her in the same style Thrasher had portrayed in the Scream movies. The brutal reports revealed that Cambier had been stabbed 30 times in the

left side of her mid torso with marks on her face suggesting that Jaradin had covered her mouth to muffle screams. After Jaradin was finished, he called his father and another colleague to turn him in out of guilt. When law enforcement found and apprehended Jaradin, he confirmed the reports and confessed to have been inspired and motivated by Thrasher from the Scream movies. After investigation, Thierry was found to have no past criminal records or psychological problems.

This is just one of many cases from around the world. It is documented that Martin Bryant, who is Australia’s worst serial killer getting away with 35 confirmed homicides, had been obsessed with the Child’s Play movies and the character Chucky. His psychiatrist had also submitted a report stating that the film had major influences on contributing to Bryant’s killing sprees. When the film A Clockwork Orange was released, an alarming increase in copycat crimes including murder and rape had followed.

I personally am a victim to this. I was in my room on social media and unknowingly, I spent 2 hours online. Time is the most precious tangible thing on earth and once you use it, you never can get it back. I am not here to condone social media use, but instead to enlighten everyone about how much is enough. How much time is appropriate for social media use? If you go to settings on your phone and open the banner named “battery”, it will show you how much time you spend daily on every app on your phone. The majority of people with smartphones will have social media as their most used app they have.

With this in mind, I want to encourage readers to take a stand and not let your phone control you; instead, control your phone.

With these series of bizarre incidents, psychiatrists have begun questioning the correlation between horror inspired crime and the source of media it comes from. Psychological research has shown that when people view violence in horror or any media, they are desensitized and affected less when exposed to it in real life situations. New studies on neurocinematics have also revealed that certain emotions can block a person’s ability to differentiate fiction from reality causing a traumatic stress that can negatively affect the brain even when the film has already ended. This can cause a viewer to believe they are in a fictional situation even if their surroundings clearly suggest otherwise.

Other various side effects have been shown to happen when exposed to horror such as increased enjoyment to thrill, but desensitization has been noted to contribute the most to influencing crimes even if they appear to be mentally stable.

The Overdone Horror Movie Tropes

Horror films are a difficult thing to make. It is hard to gauge what will be scary for someone. Do you focus on the atmosphere, the suspense, the designs of creatures, the music? How do you make it work? How can you make your horror film definitely scary?

Some filmmakers know how and their methods have become the most overused tropes in gory films.

Gore is extremely popular to use in horror movies. It shows people things about themselves that they have never seen before, like what it looks like to have a knife in your head or have your eyes pressed in so far that your head explodes. As humans, we feel empathy towards the person who is being tortured. We cringe at the sight of an eye laser cutting Olivia’s eye and hand, bleeding everywhere, in Final Destination or, in Alien, when Kane shows signs of serious pain before the baby rips out of his stomach.

Another major scare tactic filmmakers use is jump scares. Using excessive jump scares is a cheap way of scaring the viewer. They take no effort to do, as all you have to do is have

something appear suddenly on the screen with sudden, loud audio, and it proves to the watcher that you cannot come up with another way to scare them. Jump scares just tap into one of the most basic animal instincts we have-surprise. They are not always bad though. When they are used as an outcome to a tense situation, then it is justified, but they shouldn’t be in the majority of the movie. It can keep the viewer from paying attention to the rest of your movie, like the story, and instead anticipating the next jump scare.

These tactics are not technically bad on their own if used sparingly. Jump scares can keep you on your feet in the tense moments of a film, and they don’t focus on it throughout the film. Like in Alien, the facehugger jumps out of the egg and attaches to Kane. The jump scare is situational. They anticipate it, the facehugger jumps out, and the movie continues. They don’t have to exclusively be in horror movies, too. Zootopia has a jump scare where the main characters are secretly

There is a wide array of superstitions shaping the lives and thoughts of modern civilians around the world, providing yet another source of evidence for human hilarity. In Rwandan society women avoid goat meat at all costs, whereas the Danish will not speak of personal matters while in a room with a cat. Superstitions of this sort can be found within the world's cultures, and while they’re often irrational, they’re always amusing.

Certain occurrences are considered good luck, such as the Russian idea that bird poop brings good fortune. While this may seem counterintuitive, it is an overall positive superstition. Individuals visiting Russia may be confused when they witness a spattering

of bird poop evoke a happy exclamation from a Russian citizen; this citizen may feel that it was a perfectly reasonable reaction.

There are also a multitude of negative superstitions. In Spain, for example, it is considered horrendously bad luck to enter a room leading with one’s left foot. Doing so would result in dire consequences, and is to be avoided at all costs. Meanwhile, South Koreans believe sleeping with a ceiling fan on can be fatal. In many societies fishermen refuse to bring bananas on board their ships because it makes them feel more in-control of their seafaring endeavors. Would bringing a banana on a boat result in disaster, or is it

looking around a forbidden lab trying to find evidence. That whole scene was leading up to something: an insane tiger that was being tested. The whole atmosphere has changed now. It is still tense, but now the tenseness is about if they will survive the battle with the tiger.

There can be horror/thriller films that do not use these tropes and still be good. They don’t have to be there. In Se7en, the whole movie utilizes the atmosphere and story to freak you out instead of sudden sounds and something scary popping up on screen or gross imagery. The film The Shining also does a great job building the sense of dread and suspense without relying on jump scares or gore. I know there are people that enjoy excessive gore or jump scares because it gives them a rush of excitement. That’s why movies like Saw and The Evil Dead are such cult classics, but filmmakers tend to miss the point of those films. They don’t realize that you need to know how to integrate the tropes into a movie and not integrate a movie into the tropes.

But if it isn’t real, then why do we still tell kids that witches exist? Why do we still dress up as sorcerers for Halloween? And also why is it that some people today believe and practice it? Turns out, there are many different types of magic. These are the two of the major types of magic: White Magic: This type of magic is referred to as natural magic. According to Wikipedia, white magic is “traditionally referred to the use of supernatural or powers or magic for selfless purposes”. It is the yang to yin. Generally, practitioners of magic mainly use white magic since it helps people. White magic generally has good spells, such as healing and health spells. There are even spells to help someone during childbirth. White magic uses positive energies to heal the mind, body, and soul from the negative and harmful energy surrounding it.
