The Split Amongst Young Voters Thomas Perera, Staff Historically speaking generations tend to lean one way in their political ideologies. But in recent years there has been a split between young voters. Young women continue to lean left in their voting, whereas young men have been heavily voting more conservatively than their counterparts. The left heavily tying themselves into progressive movements has become a huge reason why there has become a more distinct tie between gender and political parties than in the past. Reproductive rights, gender equality, climate change, and social justice are all pressing issues that many young women are directly tied to. With the overturning of Roe v. Wade, we have seen a large number of female voters align themselves to candidates that are pro-choice. And with the vast majority of these pro-choice candidates being liberal, it has greatly added to the discrepancy in youth voting.
