Siobhan Kelley
Siobhan Kelley lives and paints on Boonwurrung Bunurong Country. Her art practice consists of three elements, plein air painting, studio painting and sewn painting. Her plein air studio consists of her surroundings, especially focusing on the local foreshores, back beaches and grasslands. Her acrylic paintings respond to the light, colour and forms of the land, while giving consideration to the composition of the completed painting. Her studio paintings are always based on photographs and are directly related to the plein air landscapes. They vary between strong, visually appealing graphic paintings and something more organic that combines memory and photograph. Hand sewn paintings and works on paper have been presenting themselves for over thirty years. They are not consistent but continue to emerge and develop when the thrill of acrylic painting subsides. The sewn paintings explore urban building materials, such as weather board, brick and corrugated iron.
Siobhan has been an artist in residence at The Gate Keepers Cottage at Police Point, The Melbourne Aquarium, Courthouse Gallery + Studio in Port Hedland, Artist House in Carnamah, Western Australia. In 2006, Siobhan completed a Master of Visual Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts.
Siobhan has been short listed for a number of art prizes including The John Leslie Art Prize, The Fleurieu Peninsula Water Prize, The Paddington Art Prize, The Mosman Art Prize, The ANL Maritime Art Prize, The City of Albany Art Prize, The Glover Prize, The Jury Art Prize, The Cossack Art Award, The Hedland Art Award, the Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery Research Week Art Prize and the Art Piece Gallery 30x30 Art Prize.
