5 WAYS GOLF COURSE COMMUNITIES ARE LURING IN BUYERS One trend that could change where people choose to live is the increasing number of professionals who are working from home. The number of people working at home has doubled since 2005.The number of companies that offer work-at-home options have grown 40% in the past five years. Add independent contractors to the mix and the number of at-home workers could eventually outnumber those who work at a company office. Why is this relevant to the Amelia Island Plantation? Families with work-at-home parents will be able to choose where they live as they will no longer be tied to living in the same city as their employer. Families will have the freedom to decide where they live based on factors like lifestyle, weather, proximity to family, etc. This presents a wonderful opportunity for the Planation to add these families to its buyer pool, thus increasing buyer demand and property values. The question is how does the Amelia Island Plantation position itself to attract these families? We came across an article in Inman News, a national real estate news company, that listed five ways in which Florida golf course communities are attracting affluent families. The good news is that our community is already implementing many of these ideas. Although there is room for improvement, we feel confident that between the AIPCA, the Club, and the Omni, the Amelia Island Plantation will be well-positioned to attract families with work-at-home parents. Below, we have shared from Inman News the 5 ways other communities are luring in affluent families. 1. OFFERING SOCIAL EVENTS AND FITNESS CLASSES Palm Beach County communities such as Mirasol, Old Palm, Ballenisles, and Admirals Cove are emphasizing social events to bring residents together. The communities offer fitness centers with integrating certified cycling instructors, onsite physical therapy, high-octane fitness classes such as kick boxing, TRX, Zumba classes, low-impact classes, yoga, Pilates and personal trainers. Exclusive full spa facilities with hair and nail salons are part of the experience. 2. SERVING UP RESORT-LIKE RESTAURANTS The clubs also offer a variety of resort-style restaurants, smoothie stations and cafes focused on healthy light meals. Some of them also offer summer camps for children, multi-sport athletic facilities, which include tennis programs and tennis pros, pickle ball, bocce, dog parks and a wide variety of special interest clubs for all ages.
5 WAYS GOLF COURSE COMMUNITIES ARE LURING IN BUYERS Members can hold their own personal social and business events on site at one of the variety of rooms, restaurants, outdoor patios or at the aquatics centers’ pool areas. Events coordinators are available to assist members with planning. 3. CREATING SPECIAL INTEREST CLUBS The special interest clubs developing in the luxury communities, as well as charitable foundations, are another offering that allow the members to make lasting connections. The diversity of these clubs is prevalent, with some clubs having up to 30 different interests. They range from art to music, reading, film reviews, fishing, sewing, theater and much more. The clubs even offer dedicated rooms for members with interests in of many types of cards and games. 4. SHOWCASING STATE-OF-THE-ART GOLFING Championship golf courses, lush practice areas and golf training for all ages and levels are just a few of the many options these luxury communities have to offer. There are a variety of membership categories available to residents to match their lifestyles. The junior golf, tennis, swimming and fitness programs — to name a few — allow the young families to expose their children to a variety of sports in the convenience of their own community. 5. TAKING ADVANTAGE OF NATURAL BEAUTY Mirasol, set in the heart of the Palm Beaches and surrounded by acres of natural preserve and picturesque lakes, has more than 500 children and young adults living in the luxury Palm Beach Gardens community. With that in mind, the community association revamped an unused 2,400-square-foot space into a family sports complex with a regulation-size basketball court, playground, hard-surface tennis courts, AstroTurf for soccer and a variety of other sports and outdoor games. For the parents, Mirasol has an events team that organizes holiday celebrations, as well as seasonal and summer social events, giving these residents the ability to celebrate without leaving home. These communities are adapting to changing times, and it’s critical for agents helping buyers who might be a fit for these communities to stay current on those changes.
LIFE'S SECRETS BY POPS As we approach Thanksgiving, I always think of my grandfather, David Miller Sr., who we called Pops. Growing up down the street from him on Marsh Creek Road afforded me many wonderful memories of time well-spent with him, but Thanksgiving was always special. Sitting around our circular dining room table at 42 Marsh Creek, eating turkey and Uhlma's famous potato stuffing, we discussed all manner of notorious Thanksgiving topics like politics, religion, the economy, and Florida Gator football. Even though Thanksgiving was always special because of the cherished time spent with family and friends, Pops taught me that there was an even greater significance to the holiday: to celebrate giving thanks. He believed that giving thanks was not just a reactionary emotion that one felt as an obligation when receiving a blessing of some sort. But rather, it was a causative energy that could be exercised at will. In other words, you do not need something to be grateful for, you only need the desire to feel grateful. And when you feel grateful, you become great, and eventually attract great things. Pops believed we grow rich by thanksgiving and we grow impoverished by losing the spirit of gratitude. This was a powerful lesson he taught me although it can be a challenge to apply consistently in life. Which is why Thanksgiving, the holiday, is so important. It serves to remind us that gratitude should guide our behavior and will return to us many blessings in life. To thank Pops for teaching me this lesson and to honor his memory this Thanksgiving, I would like to share with you an article he wrote for his grandchildren called "Life's Secrets By Pops".
LIFE'S SECRETS BY POPS After 80 plus years, there is little I am certain of, however I offer the following with relative certainty. Let go of words and deeds that were meant to harm you. Getting even is destructive behavior. Walk away from confrontational behavior, you are always the victor when you have a positive response to an otherwise negative situation. We are only happy in an attitude of service. You serve when you give more than is expected. The principle works when you are in someone else’s employment or when you are “the boss” providing service to others – as a doctor or as a shoeshine boy – always give your best. If such a positive attitude is not appreciated after time, then consider another environment, but don’t allow another’s poor judgment result in you being less than you can be.
LIFE'S SECRETS BY POPS Let your behavior be based on gratitude and know that action always trumps words. Focus on what is good and what is right. Look for the good attributes of an otherwise undesirable performance. Be thankful for all who have proceeded you and sacrificed to build the platform from which you start. In all human relations the traits of successful behavior seem to have evolved from the teachings embraced in the “Sermon on The Mount”. There appears to be no end to the benefits that can be harvested from the teachings of Jesus. Conversely, listen to your heart and shun greed, jealousy, envy, and excess desire and ambition. In fact all of human progress can be traced to a willingness to forgive as demonstrated in the life of Christ. Never allow yourself to suffocate in your victories. Too many have contributed to your success, most notably your creator, your parents, family, and teachers. Share generously in your financial success with those who participated and those who are in need. Never look down on those who might be in your charge. Rather promote yourself by promoting those in your charge. Advice and counsel may be appropriate however such advice can be helpful with helping in mind and never in the presence of others. The benefits of praise can be magnified if sincerely offered in the presence of others. Knowledge is the principle building block for improving the living conditions of the civilized world. Improving your knowledge must be a primary and never ending goal if you are to contribute to your potential and the eventual outcome. If you eat meat – the fewer legs the better. All animals should be treated as magnificent creations with as little suffering as possible. Avoid fat, sugar, white flour, tobacco, excess alcohol and processed foods. Find your joy and strength in thanksgiving and family. Let me add, all of these thoughts represent unfinished work in progress for the author. David F. Miller, Sr.
