We had a magical summer on Lake Fairlee! There was so much happening from everyday events like day hikes and swamp tromps, berry picking and lake swims, canisbee (frisbee in canoes) and goat yoga, ropes courses and pickleball. And let’s not forget the less-everyday events like stories at Rainbow’s End, Sunday Assembly talks, ranks passed and celebrated, Harry Potter Day, Mississippi Mud, and Hive’s Birthday. There were so many fun traditions shared and new opportunities explored.
We talked about and practiced choosing curiosity choosing to let go of assumptions, choosing to tell ourselves different stories, choosing to do something challenging or unknown, and then digging deeper. Do you remember to choose to be curious when everything in you is saying, “Nah, that’s too hard?” I just caught myself doing it today and I smiled.
Many of the best things about camp are the opportunities to enjoy all the fun, participate in traditions that have been passed down over generations of campers, and spend time in ways that are fulfilling. At camp there is time to play, time to read, time to connect in person with friends, time to challenge yourself, time to reflect, time to make mistakes and work through them, and time with your family. Outside of camp, I find myself often working to create a similar structure (minus the bugle calls though maybe I should reconsider). When I make the time to focus on the important stuff, I feel better and I can be my best. People often talk about their camp self being the best version of themselves. I feel that way too AND I think focusing on the important stuff that we do while at camp outside of camp helps us to be that person year-round. Someone who chooses to be loving, powerful, playful, and free.
I am looking forward to seeing some of you while I’m traveling this fall, but if I don’t see you, just know that you’re on my mind and I’m sending you all the snaps and camp magic your way.
