Positive Changes for Just Carrots and RediBeets

AIM Members and Customers who have ordered Just Carrots or RediBeets recently may have noticed changes in the flavour and the colour of these powders. AIM’s Quality Assurance Manager, Phillip Jermann, advises that these changes are the result of taking steps to improve product quality.

The location for growing crops of beets and carrots has shifted from the Southeastern region of the USA to the Northwest, resulting in a slightly bolder taste. The change in climate and location can have subtle effects on the taste of crops. The most important aspect is that the nutritional content of Just Carrots and RediBeets remain consistent or improves.

The harvested beets and carrots are individually cold-processed into juice powders using a shorter processing time to preserve their nutrients, which allows AIM to create incredibly nourishing food powders. The shorter duration used to grind the dried, crystalized juice has resulted in larger particles that are also darker in color but no less nutritious. Darker, larger, crystalized particles are the new normal for Just Carrots and RediBeets.

As for nutritional increases, a 12-gram serving of Just Carrots juice powder now contains over 16 micrograms of folate, which is 4 % of the recommended daily intake. Previously, there was no presence of folate in the earlier carrot juice powder when tested. Also, the beta-carotene in one serving has increased from 6,370 mcg to 7,140 mcg. These new nutrition facts will appear on the Just Carrots product label in 2024. RediBeets was also tested, showing slight improvements over the earlier powder but not necessitating a label change.

The new harvest location for beets and carrots and advancements in the juicing and drying process are positive changes for Just Carrots and RediBeets, maintaining their nutrition that works.
