ON THE WATER
Few places on Palma’s waterfront carry quite the history that Club de Mar does. Founded in 1972 with the ambition of drawing grandes yachts from the French Riviera to the Bay of Palma, it quickly became the social and nautical heartbeat of the city — discreet, established, and unmistakably itself.
What’s emerged from four years and €83 million of construction is something altogether more open. The new complex — four interconnected buildings named after the island’s cardinal winds — has physically dissolved the barrier between the marina and the Paseo Marítimo. Where there was once a wall, there is now a broad walkway drawing the city directly into the club. A commercial area with shops and nautical services is opening in phases between April and June, with the full offering expected to be complete by summer.
Four restaurants of different styles anchor the food and drink offering, including a new gastronomic space that moves into a nighttime atmosphere as the evening progresses. A wellness area with gym and spa sits alongside dedicated spaces for the club’s sports programme — sailing school, regattas, year-round nautical education for children and adults.
The Yacht Club, with its classic design and views across the bay, remains the quiet centre of everything.

Saxophonist Florencio Cruz has been curating nightly sets here for years — jazz, soul, funk, blues — in a room small enough that you're never far from the stage. Good cocktails, great atmosphere, and the kind of place that's genuinely hard to find. Book ahead, it fills up.
The club’s flagship regatta — one of the Mediterranean’s premier classic sailing events. Vintage yachts (pre-1950), Classic yachts (pre-1975), Big Boats and Espíritu de Tradición classes compete across the bay. Part of the Mediterranean Champions Cup circuit.
An uninhabited island nature reserve just off the southwest coast, reachable by ferry from Sant Elm in 15 minutes. No cars, no hotels — just dramatic cliffs, walking trails, three lighthouses and lizards that will literally crawl up to you at the dock. The western cliffs rise over 350 metres above the sea and the Eleonora’s falcon — one of Europe’s rarest raptors — nests here from May to October. One of those places that still genuinely feels untouched, and easy to do as a half day from Palma.
Two ways to get there: the public ferry from Sant Elm pier runs seasonally and gets you 2.5 hours on the island. For something more complete, Sa Calma Boats runs guided trips with snorkelling, lunch and wildlife commentary on a certified eco-boat. You can also depart from Port Andratx if that’s more convenient.
