David and Janet Dennis enjoy their fleet of restored Corvettes.

By Amy Geiszler-Jones David Dennis retired from two careers spanning 40 years before deciding to pick up another vocation: elected public official. At 74, Dennis is the oldest commissioner on the five-member Sedgwick County Board of Commissioners. In November, he was re-elected for his second fouryear term representing District 3, the county’s western district that includes a big chunk of west Wichita and the smaller communities of Andale, Bentley, Cheney, Colwich, Garden Plain, Goddard, Mount Hope and Viola.

It’s the second elected seat Dennis has held since retiring from a 29-year career in the Air Force and 11 years with the Wichita Public Schools. His first was a four-year stint on the Kansas State Board of Education, which he was elected to in 2008. From Kansas to Russia Dennis’ office holds a couple of reminders of how he spent much of his Air Force career. The tip of a nuclear weapon sits on a windowsill. On one shelf sits the steering yoke of a Russian Tupolev Bear bomber. Dennis’ See Dennis, page 8

Fashion: Ready when you are By Bonnie Bing About now you’re wondering why last September you changed out spring and summer clothes to fall and winter. We haven’t gone many places. Not many people are seeing us and if they are, it’s from the waist up on FaceTime or Zoom. That doesn’t mean, however, there aren’t good times ahead and Bonnie Bing there is a whole batch of fun spring fashion coming our way. The new season is reminiscent of many springs before. Think gingham checks, bold stripes, sweet floral prints and, of course, some polka dots for good measure.

Happy colors, from lime to citrus yellow to cool tangerine will give us a lift. So will bright orchid, magenta and vivid blues. Even the all-American fabric, denim, is showing up in every color you can think of. And not just solids. Watch for floral prints denim jackets and jeans as well as stripes of all widths. And let’s get back to accessorizing. This spring, long necklaces, fringed earrings, stackable bangles and a whole crop of colorful scarves will add color and texture to whatever you put on. Built for comfort, sandals, loafers, flip flops and flats come in myriad colors. If you like neutrals, try adding a muted metallic gold, bronze or silver to your shoe wardrobe.
