This is our seventh annual 55+ Resource Guide.

It is your generous participation that has made this guide such a success. This is the only locally published booklet that provides such a wide selection of specific information on services directed to seniors.

The Resource Guide works for you as an advertiser, and it is a boon to those who are looking for a one-source publication that covers Community Resources, Health and Wellness sources, Housing, Services and even Activities and Entertainment.

This single, 84-page booklet helps those seeking everything from legal resources to adult day care to housing options to inhome services. And much more.

It has a 12-month shelf life. Because it is printed on high quality paper, it retains its durability the full year. As soon as it’s published it is placed on the racks of area Dillons, Leeker’s in Park City, Spears restaurant along with the Library and Senior Centers.

Interestingly, someone may pick the guide up in October searching for one type of information and return to the guide months later, seeking something else. We know this because readers call us about the guide all year.

We also know it continues to get new readers. We have received requests for last year’s guide in September, the month the new guide is published.

If the new guide isn’t off the press, they want the guide from the previous year.

Dorothy RN: Most health care insurances have a hospice benefit that will cover all services related to the terminal diagnosis. That includes all visits needed like nurses, personal care aides, social worker, chaplain, physical therapist and physician home visits to care for the terminal diagnosis to manage the symptoms .

All supplies, medications and equipment needed to manage the terminal diagnosis are also covered without out of pocket costs. Occasionally, the family might opt for extra services like sitter services, companionship or housekeeping which could be out of pocket costs.

However, each hospice case is unique in terms of what is required to meet the patients needs. Hospice clients and their families should take time to discuss and understand what is covered.

Our agencies have been partners for more than 28 years, working together to educate and provide resources to seniors, caregivers and professionals in Butler, Harvey and Sedgwick counties.

The Active Age provides thought provoking information every month through the newspaper. CPAAA provides information, assistance and support to help individuals adapt to changes as they age and learn about resources and services that might be needed as they experience changes and need assistance.

As we age we can experience obstacles and challenges that result in needs for information, resources and assistance for ourselves, caregivers and persons with disabilities. Sometimes the solutions to the issues we face are simple, other times they maybe more difficult and complicated.

That’s where we come in.

The Active Age and CPAAA are trusted resources available to help you get the support, information and resources you need. CPAAA assists older adults, persons with disabilities and caregivers to navigate the personalized issues you face and address questions about your options.

To offer you easy access to assistance, CPAAA provides the statewide Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) Call Center staffed by knowledgeable experts who are familiar with community resources. Call center professionals provide information, assistance and referrals to all Kansans regardless of age or situation.

CPAAA also provide many other services including individualized assessment, transportation, care-management, volunteer opportunities, fall prevention classes and diabetes education.
