Letter from the Editor
Dear Patriots,
The best time of the year is coming around, and yes, Iâm talking about the fall season. Autumn has always been my favorite seasonâ something about the weather finally cooling off always made me happy. This fall season that is approaching is only making me realize how fast this semester is flying by, though. Itâs almost midterm? What?!

Anyways, Iâm hoping everyone has been enjoying these issues and topics. We as a staff have been getting great feedback from all of you and what you would like to see covered in these issues. I know the last two issues have been a little heavy, so this one is full of happier subject matter.
Recently, Jeremiah and I had the opportunity to attend a WWE Monday Night RAW performance in Knoxville. Though we are very casual fans, the performance was astounding. It made me realize how fleeting a lot of simple pleasures are, especially with how older we get. The whole ride home, he and I were talking excitedly about the show we just watched, like we were kids again.
The point is, that Monday night was a nice break in the business of our lives. Iâve struggled with a lot of mental health issues these past few years but nights like those remind me that there are a lot of good things in life to look forward to. With the semester getting heavier and heavier, I hope you all have something to look forward to when the dust settles.
Enjoy the fall season, enjoy the cool air, and enjoy all the pumpkin spice stuff you want to enjoy. Weâre all rooting for you.
Fire it up,

Mike Krzyston,

Millyâs rockinâ
Highlighting one of Williamsburgâs most popular eateries
BY HALEY BULLOCK AND MARANDA YOUNG Staff Writer s

Millyâs on Main is a quaint sandwich shop nestled within Main Street in Williamsburg. The couple Rocky and Tara Briggs opened the local restaurant in February of 2007 with help and inspiration from Rockyâs parents, Howard and Milly. Many Cumberlands students have found themselves in the homey atmosphere of Millyâs at some point during their stay in Williamsburg. Rocky Briggs, with aid from his father, was the creator of the menu for the restaurant that included not only sandwiches but other options for customers as well. UC students should also make a note that when going to Millyâs, they get a 10 percent discount.
Anne Russell, a UC senior, said âMillyâs is the bomb! Itâs owned by a really sweet couple who always greets you with a smile. Any sandwich you order is packed full and comes with a side of chips and an enormous drink. Theyâre very generous thatâs for sure⊠Basically itâs the bomb, and everyone should go check it out and support local business!â
Being a small restaurant comes with challenges, especially in rural areas like Williamsburg. However, Millyâs is still running after its opening over a decade ago and has seen success during its years of business. When asked about the thoughts of why people continue to eat at Millyâs, Tara Briggs, a co-owner of Millyâs, says, âI believe [itâs] the freshness. Everything is kept fresh. We kept our product quality high and [have] not lowered it. The local people have really come out and supported us. We are still hanging in there.â
The Briggs couple lived in Florida and Ohio before moving back to Kentucky and opening up Millyâs. While living in Florida, the couple had an assisted living facility that took care of the elderly for âalmost ten years,â according to Tara Briggs. She also says that her husband worked at Snappy Tomato Pizza, giving him the knowledge and experience to open their own restaurant.
The menu is one of the most crucial aspects when it comes to creating a restaurant, and even though Millyâs on Main is technically a sandwich shop, it is not limited to just a sandwich. When placing an order, a customer can receive a sandwich, wavy chips and a drink with their purchase. Customers can also choose from a variety of soups, salads and pies that are all homemade, as well. Reuben, turkey, ham, tuna salad, potato soup, cookies and cream pie
are just a few of the options that the shop offers. As an homage to its close neighbor that has helped Millyâs expand their audience, there is a sandwich called the Patriot Panini. T. Briggs states that the main supplier for their food is Gordon Food Supply, guaranteeing a higher quality to customers.
Skyler Johnson, a UC junior said, âMillyâs is close to campus--super convenient. Itâs reasonably priced and always great quality food. They are the nicest most genuine people and truly care about customer service! They take time to get to know their customers, which is really comforting for college kids hours away from home. My go-to order is a turkey sandwich on wheat & an extra pickle!â
Customers who may have not been to Millyâs in a few years may notice a redesign of the restaurant. Tara Briggs says, âItâs only been a few years that weâve had the Cumberlandsâ stuff up here. Coach Stigall, after he retired, between him and the Carter ladies, they helped us acquire quite a collection.â Many sports jerseys are tacked up on the walls, even featuring the older logo from when the college was still called Cumberland College. With the complete redecoration or the restaurant, it allows Cumberlands students to feel more at home in the booths with their friends and classmates.
âI love going to Millyâs cause it has such a homey feel & they are always so sweet & welcoming to me. Itâs special because itâs home cooked food,â Alyssa Bishop, a UC senior said, âJust this week I needed a âfeel goodâ meal and they made me a three-cheese grilled cheese and their white chicken chili.â
Though Millyâs is doing quite well in terms of their success in Williamsburg, Tara Briggs stated that she would like to see more growth for the restaurant in the future, âWith the college moving in some stuff downtown, itâll hopefully bring more people downtown, which would give us the opportunity to grow and maybe even at some point do dinner and stay open later.â Exciting things are in store for the local business in Williamsburg and with the expansion of business and shops in downtown, things are only looking up from this point.
Students ponder what to eat at Millyâs on Main .

Whatâs CAB-ening?
A preview of upcoming CAB events for the semester

BY ABBY FLETCHER
Staff Writer
The Campus Activities Board, commonly known as CAB, hosts many events each semester for University of the Cumberlands students. Some of the most well known events hosted by CAB are Spotlight, Free Movie Night, and the Coffee House. This fall semester CAB has planned many events for students to enjoy.
CAB has already hosted several events throughout the month of September. They had Bingo and Weekend at the Burg. Although these events have passed, there are still many other events planned for students to attend. Freshman, Jael Cobb talked about how she feels about CAB, âThe CAB events are really cool, and a good break from class work. Itâs an awesome way to hangout with friends. I canât wait for the rest of them.â Will McDonnell, Sophomore at UC also commented on CAB, âI really enjoy their events. Bingo night is probably my favorite, it always brings people together to have a lot of fun.â
Throughout the month of October, CAB is offering even more events for students. Oct. 1 at 9 a.m., there will be a blood drive in the Mid BCC.
Following the blood drive, on the same day there will be an Iced Coffee House at 8 p.m. in the Mid BCC. On Oct. 8 at 8 p.m., there will be a food event in the BCC Grill. If youâre feeling lucky on Oct. 15, CAB is hosting Bingo at 8 p.m. in the BCC Grill. One of the most attended events, Free Movie Night, is going to be at Tri-County Cineplex on Oct. 21. If you are a fan of block parties there is going to be one on BCC lawn at 8 p.m. on

Oct. 25. There will be a balloon artist coming to UC on Oct. 26. On Oct. 28, National Guard Movie Night will be at 8 p.m. on the BCC lawn. Come hungry on Oct. 29 at 8 p.m. in the Mid BCC because CAB is having another food event.
During the first week of November, CAB is having Bingo at 8 p.m. in Mid BCC. Following that, on Nov. 12 there will be another Coffee House at 8 p.m. in the Mid BCC. During coffee house, there is live music and a free coffee mug give-a-way. If you love playing cards there will be an event held at Tales & Terrors at 6 p.m. Tales & Terrors is located in Downtown Williamsburg.
During the first week of December, there is some back to back events. On Dec. 3, there will be a Coffee House at 8 p.m. in the Mid BCC. Then on the next day, Dec. 4 there will be Bingo in the BCC Grill at 8 pm. This would be a great time to win a Christmas present for yourself. Dec. 5 is Build-a-Bear in the Mid BCC at 7 p.m. This provides students with the opportunity to stuff their own mini bears that they could keep for themselves or give to a friend. The Campus Activities Board always plans a bunch of events each year for students. They are always well attended and a great thing to look forward to during the academic year. The CAB always works so hard to make sure students enjoy their time on campus.

Itâs real to me
How professional wrestling influences modern culture

BY MIKE KRZYSTON Editor-In-Chief
Growing up as a wrestler the first question I was always asked was, âWhatâs your finisher?â Of course, when I was younger, I would get defensive and upset that people had the nerve to compare my noble sport to the âfakeâ stuff shown on television. Then, as I grew older, I started to really get into professional wrestling. WWE is cool and very entertaining, and perhaps one of the most popular forms of entertainment among people my age.
âProfessional wrestling is honestly one of the best live events that you can go to,â says Brady Emerson, an avid fan of WWE, as well as a member of the UC menâs wrestling team. âI donât care if people make fun of that itâs fake, because all of your favorite TV shows are fake too,â adds Emerson.
Today, the WWE has its own network that people can subscribe to in order to get maximum access to all things associated to the companyâreality shows, archive matches, and every pay-per-view event. To an outsider who may have no interest or knowledge of the sport, a subscription to the WWE Network, or even going to see a show in real life may sound like a waste of time and money. Yet, I personally think that the WWE is very inspiring, as well as entertaining.
Something people often ask when they find out Iâm a fan of professional wrestling is, âYou know that stuff is fake, right?â And to an extent, they are right. While the fights are scripted, the outcomes are pre-determined, and often the speaking roles are poorly acted, the level of athleticism required to be a professional wrestler is astounding. These grown men and women are tossing

around other grown men and women equal-to or bigger-than their size in that ring, sometimes for over 30 minutes at a time! Coming from a collegiate wrestler, I promise you that none of that is easy.
Perhaps many people donât understand the true influence that professional wrestling, especially from the WWE, has had on our modern culture. Dwayne âThe Rockâ Johnson was named the highest paid actor in 2019 as of August, according to Forbes Magazine, as he earns over $89 million per year. Johnsonâs humble beginnings to his wealth started on WWE. John Cena is now used constantly in memes, thanks to his signature saying, âYou canât see me.â
And letâs not forget, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, is in the WWE hall of fame.
Last Monday, I had the opportunity to watch a live show of WWE Monday Night RAW from the second row on the floor of the Frank Erwin Center in Knoxville, TN. From experience, I can tell you that watching a professional wrestling match in real life is beyond intense, as well and wildly fun. As I sat ringside, cheering for wrestlers I really donât even have that much knowledge about, I was realizing the impact that this sport has had not only on me, but the country and our media culture.
So before you go and poke fun at your friends that are devoted fans to the WWE, remember that the organization and its athletes have had a lot of impact on our society.

UC archery team talks goals and expectations for this year

BY ALEX NUNN Staff Writer
The University of the Cumberlands archery team ended last year by winning the overall Mid-South Conference Championship again, and winning USIAC 3D Nationals in Foley, Alabama. Expectations are high, not only for the archers, but also for all those following their season. UCâs archery team has won the Mid-South Conference twice, and as assistant coach of the archery team Caleb Kirby put it, âOur goal this year would honestly be to defend our mid-south conference crown. So far weâve not lost any of the overall team assets of it, weâve won 3D all three years, indoor back to back the last two years and weâve won outdoor, so to defending our title there, also we won 3D nationals last year so we want to defend that as well.â
The team also received third place for outdoor nationals, and Kirby states, âIf we had anything we wanted to improve on it would be to make it to second, or hopefully first place in outdoor nationals.â
UC freshman and bow hunter Hunter Larese talked briefly about being a freshman on the archery team. Larese said, âComing in I was really nervous about how it would be on meeting new people, and my first time being on an actual team. Itâs been about six weeks now and I can easily say itâs been some of the greatest experiences Iâve had being here.â
Many members of the archery team share a similar goal as Larese, to win conference, but Larese also elaborated on personal goals he held himself
to. He said, âTo better myself and my world of shooting. Basically competition Iâve never been up against before has made me want to better myself to where Iâm self-satisfied.â
Talking about the future Larese says that, âHopefully weâll keep dominating like we have been, and the main priority is to keep on winning.â
Archery team menâs compound shooter Aaron Adams, a UC sophomore, also talked about his time on the archery team, and the change in environment as time has passed, âThe team dynamic has really changed, my freshman year coming in, it was good, there were some people that made it difficult, but the team dynamic has really come together and weâre a better group for it.â
Following up with expectations that he held for the team, Adams says, âIf I were to set a personal goal for myself then Iâd say itâd be to try and make mixed teams.â
Kirby wrapped up by saying, âWeâll be hosting another tournament Easter weekend in the spring so itâs nice to have people coming out to support that, and I know that qualifications can seem fairly boring, but when we get into the team rounds it gets really cool, so having people come around and support the team like at the football game recently, that kind of thing is amazing.â

If you have seen the 1990 Mini-series and the IT 2017 movie you will love this sequel. But donât worry I will not be spoiling the movie; I will be giving my honest opinions. I want to say that I highly recommend you watch this movie. Every part of the production was executed flawlessly. From the direction, pacing and transitions the film is beautiful, especially for the horror genre. The movie is long but fills that time with meaningful production in each scene. That in no way stops this movie from keeping the audience in the story. IT and IT Chapter 2 work well because the sequel has moments that reflect the first movie in a way that is tasteful. By that I mean that there are scenes that callback to the first IT. When the Losers must regain their childhood memories, we see some new scenes, and some familiar scenes, from the Summer they fought Pennywise. It capitalizes on what the viewer should already know and builds on that.
Riverâs Review: It: Chapter Two Hollywoodâs Staff Picks
The casting in this movie was well done. The child actors and the adult actors do a wonderful job. Now, I cannot do a review of this movie without talking about three of the actors specifically. Richie was played both by Finn Wolfhard, as the kid, and Bill Hader, as the adult. These characters brought a lot to this movie. Finn Wolfhard was my favorite part of the first chapter. Bill Hader did an excellent job at keeping the energy Finn Wolfhard gave to the character. I

A review

promise that when you see this movie you will love Richie. Richie had some of the best lines in the movie and the delivery was outstanding.
Pennywise is played by Bill SkarsgĂ„rd with intense energy that is chaotic and chilling. When I saw this movie on opening weekend there were moments when the audience would laugh. Iâd say this movie is scary enough to make people laugh as a coping mechanism. Pennywise is a haunting force to be reckoned with this time around. This movie stands up well as a horror movie thanks to Pennywise.
I would give this movie a 9/10 and it is worth more than one watch. I would just like to give a trigger warning to those that have experienced abuse, whether physical or mental. There is also suicide in this movie, but the scene is not shown explicitly. If you have seen the original movie or read the book you will know what I am talking about. The ending does a great job at bringing closure to each of the main characters. The problem with having a big cast in any movie is being consistent with how each character is handled. All the subplots supplement the main plot to create a message that anyone could connect with. Go out and see IT Chapter 2 or youâll float too!
Post Malone released âHollywoodâs Bleedingâ on September 6, 2019, his latest album since âbeerbongs & bentleysâ in 2018. This 17-track album includes his singles âSunflowerâ from the movie âSpider-Man: Into the SpiderVerseâ and âWow,â both of which were immediate hits, and includes âCircles,â which was released right before the album drop. âCirclesâ is a mellow, echoing, whining, infectious, bittersweet jam. Unfortunately, the opening song âHollywoodâs Bleedingâ is overproduced and sounds like a generic parody of a Post Malone song. While this album is a change of pace, his iconic husky vibrato and fusion of rock and hip-hop is still evident. But there is a surprising twist, which includes his step into more indie and pop genres, which can be heard in his track âAllergic,â which is a breath of fresh air. But different is not always good, especially in track five, âA Thousand Bad Times,â with lyrics like âSaid you needed a ride, but you wanted my car, Without that face, girl, you wouldnât get far.â and a fairly unimpressive beat.
One of the more talked-about tracks âTake What You Want,â featuring Ozzy Osborne and Travis Scott, is a collaboration that is outside of the box and demonstrates the creativity expected from him. This can be said for another collaboration âDie For Meâ featuring Halsey and Future, three very different voices yet again blending smoothly. Itâs gritty and dynamic without being too over-the-top, which yet again, builds hope for the next few tracks, but this hope is dashed with the song âOn the Roadâ, a melody eerily similar to his hit âRockstarâ, and âInternetâ a corny political stance about why the internet is bad with lyrics like, âWell, if ignorance is bliss, then donât wake me up. And Iâll prolly be the last to know, whoa, âcause I donât get on the internet no moreâ. The album is directionless and trying everything at once which takes away from some of the genuinely nice tracks. âGoodbyesâ is intensely somber and serious and preceding a song like âInternetâ is plain confusing. The album is far from awful, but certainly leaves something to be desired. 6/10
