It’s been a busy start to the new term, with the children enjoying experience days such as school visitors and trips to launch their new topics.

Year 4 children visited Pizza Express (above) to complement their work in science on digestion and nutrition. In Year 3, the children were trained up as junior geologists by a team from the University of Plymouth, while Year 5 have been re-enacting the Battle of Troy for their history sequence. In Year 6, the children took part in a mental health and well-being workshop.

Year 6 and Year 1 children recently enjoyed the spectacular Space Dome Odyssey (above) experience. Meanwhile, Year 3 children went on a trip to Kents Cavern (below) as part of their Stone Age topic.

Eco Council member Bella is incredibly passionate about making her school as environmentally friendly as possible. At the end of 2022, she wrote to the Prime Minister and David Attenborough asking for help to improve the environmental impact at Stowford. Recently, she received replies from 10 Downing Street and Sir David Attenborough, who sent a very special and thoughtprovoking hand written reply. The Eco Council and head Mrs Williams are excited to explore the ideas Sir David suggested.

As part of their design and technology unit, children in KS1 had to design a functional, appealing product for a chosen user and purpose, thinking about how they would join the materials. In KS2, the children had to design a product also fit for a specific purpose but they had to understand how to securely join two pieces of fabric together. The children were so enthusiastic about this unit, and the finished products were fantastic.

The school recently held its first theology day. The day included collective worship, a look at values and linked bible story ‘The Wise and Foolish Builder, Matthew chapter 7:24.’ The children then created a booklet with all of their thoughts and ideas about each part of the vision and values (right). Throughout the day, the children had the opportunity to help paint our school canvases (below) which are now hanging in the school hall. The day finished with a collective worship led by Rev Hinckley.

The brilliant Stowford netball team were joint winners of the Westcountry Schools Trust netball tournament. They won every game except for one, which they drew against the other joint winners, Glen Park.

The school is very lucky to be able to call on the music skills of the very talented Mrs Boulton, especially for teaching Class 2 their new instrument for this term, the ukulele.

Teachers at the school are running a very popular afterschool eco-club which is encouraging young people to know about and care for their environment. The group has undertaken several important projects including litter picking, organising the school’s recycling scheme, a campaign to switch-off electric lights and creating habitats outside for the local wildlife. They have also restocked the school’s ‘Bug Hotel’ (pictured) to provide a snug home for bugs and mini-beasts!
