A: “The role is to get the students’ section pretty hyped up, just getting them all rile up [for the game].”

Q: How do you think that role has changed this year?

A: “Right now, my focus is just on the seniors.”

Q: What are you hoping will be able to happen this year?

A: “[I hope to] have a full student section because it doesn’t feel real yet.”

Clubs start holding meetings online

W

ake up, eat, sleep, repeat. After a long summer of social distancing and not much to do, going back to school is a change. While you know it may be awhile before you see your peers in person, opening your laptop and being able to catch up and get back into the school environment feels refreshing.

Students are longing for some casual friendly interaction with their peers. In order to keep encouraging students to participate in school activities some clubs have decided to transition to Zoom meetings.

To keep students who are online learners engaged in their interests and in the community clubs like FCCLA, Writer’s Club, and Interact Club, have transitioned to online meetings.The club sponsors agree online meet-

“We will look into those for students who feel comfortable. It will definitely look different this year, but we want to do our best to focus on helping our community in any way we can,” family consumer science teacher and FCCLA sponsor Amy Breiter said.

While transitioning to include Zoom meetings, Interact Club sponsor Rhonda Betzold and Knutson, share some of the perks of online meetings.

“One benefit is that we are not limited by the school day. For example, several students have an 8th hour, so we moved the Zoom time back to 4:15 to allow them to participate,” Betzold said.

With more flexibility in the club schedules Interact club sees a great turnout at their first meeting.

“Zoom might make it easier because we can share our screens which is pretty nice. We can use that to our advantage. If everyone is on zoom and we share a screen, everyone can see what we are trying to share, which makes us more connected in a way,” Knutson says.

Screen share allows members to share their ideas in an easier way, and build on each other’s thoughts. They are finding new ways to keep the club interesting and inclusive.

“The pandemic has changed all of our lives, and none of us want it this way. However, to paraphrase Theodore Roosevelt, we can still do what we can, with what we have, where we are,” Betzold said.

a strange silence, and it’s almost empty, everybody rushing directly to their first hour where the smell of rubbing alcohol fills your nose. You sit down at your desk that’s been assigned according to social distancing procedures, and it’s slick with sanitizer.

This school year has been turned upside down due to the pandemic. Class ends early so teachers can sanitize the desks, everyone hides the bottom half of their faces behind masks. There are many procedural changes for the students, but also many for the staff as well, like nurses and custodians.

New nurse Lindsey Murphy is dealing with many of those changes in her own office.

“It does make it tricky because we do have to clean a lot more frequently, especially the high touch surfaces like door handles, countertops, things like that. We are trying to keep everyone at least six feet apart, so I can usually use about two of the beds if people need to lay down,” Murphy said.

This year, according to Head Custodian Gary Johnson, custodians are far more concerned with the sanitation than with vacuuming floors and other such things.

Procedures in the nurse’s office change even more

With teachers trying to keep students in the classroom, fewer people are sent to the nurse’s office this year.

“We’re seeing a lot fewer students here in the office.

I think teachers are trying to keep more students in the classroom as much as possible and I think that students want to, kind of, stay there as much as possible,” Murphy said.

The students that would typically be visiting the nurse’s office, are mostly doing in home learning.

“Also, we’ve noticed that a lot of the kids who do have underlying diseases are mostly our remote learners this year. So ones that would have been coming in more frequently or that we would see day to day, are at home learning because of their illnesses,” Murphy said.

While many things are changing this year for students and staff, people are hopeful the coming year can go as smoothly and safely as possible.

“If we as a society take more action to prevent violence from occurring, then we would not need to be as reactionary,” Hudson said.

To develop an accessible and open culture where assault and harassment are reported, students need to know they have resources they can utilize and adults they can confide in if they experience harassment.

Outside of the dating violence and healthy relationship curriculum discussed in Everyday Living classes, counseling staff is always available to negotiate student concerns.

“We want every student to have one person they are comfortable talking to,” school social worker Rachel Vacek said. “The important thing is having that dialogue and the education piece of knowing it’s [a case] going to get to the right people.”

In addition, School Resource Officer John Martinez is trained to handle instances of sexual misconduct and help students navigate the legal process. The Safe Schools Hotline can be used as a reporting method outside of school hours.

“I would also encourage students to reach out to any administrator, teacher, or trusted adult when they have any concern,” MPS Director of Communications, Rebecca Kleeman said.

While sexual assault cases are uncomfortable and incredibly difficult to talk about, they must be acknowledged, so students, staff, and the MN community can move forward.

This is an opportunity for change. Part of maturing and being a high schooler is realizing those posters won’t protect our vulnerabilities.

It is up to us, to be introspective, start conversations, and recreate our safe spaces.

GRATEFUL TO GO BACK Rachel’s Report

In-person learning has positives that cannot be recreated online

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss

sitting in an art classroom surrounded by my creative peers and their incredible artwork. Collecting my materials and getting started on a project was something I at the end of Rachel Kricsfeld missed last semester.

These past Staff Writer months had been the longest time we’d been out of school since before kindergarten, and I’m more thankful than ever to be walking through the halls of MN again.

After weighing the pros and cons of going forth with this school year, I am supporting returning with 100% capacity, mostly because of the difficulties of online learning.

The end of last year was an uncomfortable mix between my home life and school life, which I never wanted to experience. I became stressed before every Zoom meeting, and I worried about technical mishaps.

Learning from home didn’t feel right. My bedroom never acted as a learning environment for me, and I

became lost. I had no motivation to do well or get my work done in a timely manner. The academic pressure I used to feel was gone because nobody knew what was going to happen with school and grades.

After that experience, being back in person and able to interact with my friends and teachers safely has brought me joy. I now have more encouragement to be productive and have specific deadlines that keep me on track.

The lack of social interaction with people outside of my family was detrimental to my mental health. I realized how much I took spending time with my friends for granted. Being able to see my classmates in person and even spending time with them outside of school is such an improvement from last semester.

Fortunately, the district is also allowing students to continue to learn remotely if they chose to. This option makes it so immunosuppressed individuals can learn from home, protect their families and stay healthy.

Although this option is necessary for some individuals, I feel that returning in person was ultimately the best option for me and others.

I feel safe in the building and comfortable with the people around me. I think the requirement of masks for everyone in the building is a great way to keep peoples’ germs from spreading. The hand sanitizers at every door makes each room feel cleaner. Every classroom is also as spread out as can be to keep everyone as socially distant as possible. With all these safety precautions, I don’t feel

like the school is going to be a corona hotspot.

All in all, I find going to school in person to be favorable. Being in a learning environment with motivation from teachers and peers encourages me to stay on top of things. Being physically involved in activities again has kept me from getting bored of my daily routine. I’m beyond excited to be outside of my bedroom for most of the day and back with people that make me happy.

After years of seeing her religion taught in a negative light, she was relieved to hear her teacher speak from an unbiased perspective.

MPS promises a diverse education for all of its students. In MPS Superintendent Jim Sutfin’s statement in June regarding racism, he said that the district plans to implement input they receive from students into the curriculum reform process and focus on elevating minority voices.

Following this statement, an open letter to Millard was published by Millard West alumni. In addition to concerns regarding systemic racism within MPS, they requested a review of social studies standards to ensure they cover more diverse areas.

Current students gave their opinion on concerns that they had with the English and history curriculums as well: Junior Manali Mukherjee spoke about To Kill a Mockingbird, which she read in her freshman English class. She said that while it was “undeniably well-written,” there should still be acknowledgement of its white

savior complex.

“We should be reading it, but it shouldn’t be the book to teach us about race,” Mukherjee said. “We need stories from BIPOC [Black, Indigenous, and People of Color] authors also. I’m tired of hearing about people of color from white authors.”

The amount of curriculum-required books focused on POC perspectives vary from class to class. In Honors English 9, it is three of the twelve books. In English 9, it is six of the twelve.

The ultimate decision of which books are read comes down to each teacher. While sophomore Keira Levering read four of the six POC perspective books in Regular English 9, in junior Sammy Ward’s Honors English 9 class, she read one: To Kill a Mockingbird English Department Head Leslie Irwin said that this may be subject to change. Books that were optional could become required when the curriculum for English is discussed in five years “I would fully expect that there will be updated language to require a bit more [required books],” Irwin said. “We are rethinking how we do things to make a better effort towards equal representation. We would have seen more immediacy if not for the pandemic.”

surprised that she hadn’t been taught this side of him in school yet.

Social studies department head David Diehl said that while he likes to have his students read multiple perspectives, exploring the facets of every historical figure or event isn’t always possible. With so many opinions to balance within the district and limited time within a school year, it is a difficult decision to decide what to keep in and leave out.

“Every group’s story is important and deserves to be told,” Diehl said. “But what do you do when Group A’s story conflicts with Group B’s story?”

Every seven years, the district discusses the curriculum for each subject. This year, the focus will be on social studies.

“We have committed to listening to our students, staff, and community members as we revise the curriculum,” Associate Superintendent of Education Services Heather Phipps said.

Phipps and other teachers will discuss the state curriculum standards. While she isn’t sure what will change, Phipps said diversity is “always something we consider in the process”.

So for now, both the students and staff of MPS can only wait for what changes will come.

“To find a perfect answer that pleases everybody is almost impossible,” Diehl said. “But making progress towards the good is a noble goal worth fighting [for].”

Sports provide sense of normalcy for students Shelton Shares

has perhaps permanently altered our lives, the debate surrounding the continuation of sports continues.

There is much to worry about in the world, however, teens need to have an outlet to express themselves and feel like they are getting a full high school experience.

“It felt like a sliver of normal to be back in a stadium under the lights watching a football game,” Marc Hoyer said.

The Metro Conference announced on Sept. 14 that seniors would be able attend sports games allowing for not only players but seniors to feel semi-normal. A maximum of 100 seniors from the visiting team will be allowed to attend each game.

“High school football is so important for bringing communities together, without it we are missing out on opportunities,” football player Davis Hill said.

Moreover, the comfort it brings students to be able to cheer on the football team at games or hangout safely with friends again is so important for growth and comfort for everyone today.

“It was just like this wave of excitement because it was a comeback win and the touchdown was called at the last second. It was just super loud and fun to be a part of,” Hoyer said after attending the game on Sept.

While the pandemic rages on, it is now more than

ever important to be a community and stand strong together and sports can help with that.

However, when the Metro Conference allowed the school to bring sports into the picture, they made sure to have proper precautions in place to make sure everyone was being smart and safe while playing.

“It feels weird, we have to sanitize everything all the time including the balls while we are playing. We are also wearing masks but it throws off our peripheral vision,” volleyball player Anne Shubert said.

When they put these precautions in place, they are making sure they are putting student’s safety first. They have also put precautions in place by coaches with making sure they are wearing masks or staying six feet apart from others. Football players are making sure they are keeping their distance while on the sidelines to insure the safety of others.

The students that are playing sports during this time also have safety in mind.

“I wouldn’t care as much if we weren’t playing sports with all the precautions in place,” Shubert said.

When competing, players receive cholarships and opportunities that wouldn’t have been possible without playing this year. This not only affects student life but also secondary education for years to come.

Additionally, now that we are back 100 percent in school it only makes sense to be able to have sports and activities to commence. Though there are risks with the precautions and safety in mind there is a way to feel normal in this different time.

“Everyone has been great about following the guidelines so that we can have the best chance to continue to have activities and athletic events,” Activities Director Chad Zimmerman said.

Overall, having this opportunity to be back 100 percent and having activities, incentivizes the students to be smarter and safer with everything they chose to do in and out of school. Students continue to act the way they are and the school makes it more accessible for many to have a normal day at school which is the hope for all at this time.

Protests and demonstrations ensure justice for victims of police brutality

are singing the same song. The untimely murders of James Scurlock (22, Omaha, NE), Elijah McClain (23, Aurora, CO), Breonna Taylor (26, Louisville, KY), Alisa Prater and recently the attempted murder of Staff Writer father, Jacob Blake (29, Kenosha, WI) have all been major causes behind global protests. And those in attendance are all wanting nothing but to bring awareness to the effects of police brutality and the injustice done to its victims.

Around the nation, many have debated the effect that protests have had on the US and its flawed government. Can we say the united and enraged communities have posed a change, whether locally or globally?

Frankly yes. Since the 2020 injustice protests began, many state governments have passed bills to improve the safety of citizens. States are finally addressing prejudice in the U.S. on a systemic level. Hate crimes and unjust killings by police are collectively becoming more intolerant and racism within police departments are being outed and recognized by the justice system.

In the last 15 years, 47 nonfederal officers have been convicted following their arrest for an on-duty

murder. However, only five were convicted of murder while the rest were given lesser charges such as manslaughter.

As a united nation, regulations and bills surrounding police reform have been proposed, but only a few have been acted on. In June of this year, the House passed a bill that bans chokeholds as a means to subdue a suspect and regulates what exactly is “excessive force”, clarifying the blurred lines of violence under police custody.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is one of many governors that have taken immediate action and has signed a multitude of police reform bills into law. In total, 16 states introduced bills regarding police accountability and stricter regulations surrounding police misconduct. Over 154 bills have been introduced, amended, or passed following the murder of George Floyd, the murder that incited major global demonstrations.

However, talking about doing something and putting action behind your ideas are two drastically different things.

Many states like Iowa and Colorado have over 19 laws still waiting to be reviewed and open investigations into police brutality cases and the circumstances surrounding these suspect killings and injuries. Being that police reform is a “state-to-state” issue, the federal system cannot issue a set of preventative and specific laws to help avoid such situations.

Although many cases such as Freddie Gray and Breonna Taylor have yet to receive due to justice, more attention has been brought to the cruel circumstances. Even clear cases such as Jeremy McDole are being

reopened to review details that don’t correlate with reports.

Protests have pushed many district attorney offices to prosecute police officers that are suspects in instances of police brutality and excessive force ending in fatal outcomes. The more recent murders of George Floyd and Pamela Turner have come with convictions for their killers. These convictions were demanded by local protesters raising awareness for the arrest.

In the past few weeks, justice has been served on a local level as well. James Scurlock was murdered by a white business owner during a protest trying to protect attendees from being shot. On Sept. 15, his killer was indicted on four different charges including manslaughter.

In Kentucky, Brenns Taylor’s family’s civil case has also been ruled upon. Her family was awarded $12 million in her wrongful death. This settlement could have been a right step towards Kentucky’s promise for accountability but unfortunately, the judge did not rule in favor of the criminal case.

The 2020 injustice protests have only just begun and already so much has changed. Our communities have exposed many cases of prejudice and racist intentions by a plethora of law enforcement officers, brought awareness to the unjust murders committed by those we trust to “serve and protect,” and have challenged the morals of countless DA offices when many murders who wear the badge are let free. In the early stages, our revolution has altered governments and has rightfully put away menaces to society.

nesses as described by Kirby, the real story is happening at the personal level, in the day-to-day lives of Omaha entertainers.

“I’ve gone into major credit card debt,” Tompkins said.“Those [band members] without day jobs have been collecting unemployment checks.”

While many local entertainers have been left out to fend for themselves, many others have found comradery with their fellow entertainers.

“I believe Omaha has had a lot of change over these past few months,” Lallman said “A sort of solidarity has grown.”

Those who need help are often able to find it among other entertainers in their situation.

“A lot of grants have opened up to agencies wanting to help local entertainers and gig workers,” Omaha screenwriter, producer, and actor Tim Barr said.

Like Barr, Kirby has been keenly watching for ways to see local entertainers get relief, but instead of looking to grants and local nonprofits, Kirby is looking to halls of government.

“We’re really pressuring them to pass the RESTART Act, which focuses on gig workers and small to medium sized businesses. They’re also looking at expanding the PUA, Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, and that was that $600 you would’ve heard about a while back.”

Kirby knows that local entertainers aren’t alone in trying to get relief legislation passed, and so for those who want to help,” he said, “Make sure to write your representatives.”

“We’re all busy people, so when life stops like that, you get kind of stir crazy.

You need some kind of purpose. For us, getting Earl was a good purpose.”

As much as getting a new pet is a joyous occasion, Rooney and other pet owners recognize it takes a lot of work. Training and housebreaking are some of the most time consuming parts of getting a new dog, especially a puppy. Integrating these new fuzzy family members during quarantine has also had its unique challenges. A dog needs socialization, with people and other animals, in order to be more balanced.

However, lately things have changed. People are returning to work and school, albeit in an odd fashion.

This has led to some canine separation anxiety. Bailey VerMaas and her giant Schnauzer Lila have found a clever way around this.

“I’m doing remote learning, so she actually has been super happy that I’ve been home with her,” Bailey said. “She has definitely been a new best friend.”

Similar stories have played out throughout MN. German teacher Jason Pitt was convinced by his family to add Howie, a Corgi, to the family. Even though the adorable canine has interrupted Pitt’s sleeping patterns, he has been quite popular with the neighborhood kids on his morning walks.

While they weren’t nearly as famed as Howie, Sam Solberg’s two adopted Australian shepherds were adored. Brother and sister Briscoe and Bailey were fluffy balls of playful energy.

Although the sibling rivalry is fierce, Solberg emphasized the positive energy they have brought to the house. He said his favorite memory was when they first brought the dogs home.

“When we brought them into the backyard, their faces lit up, and it was just the best thing in the world,” Solberg said.

No matter the national pandemic that brought these families together, quarantine dogs will stick by their new-found owners, happy to have a forever home.

‘FUEL GOOD, FEEL GOOD’ Nutrition 402’s healthy spin on shakes and teas ANNA PIPINOS Lifestyle Editor

F

inding a treat that wouldn’t hinder my weight loss progress, that could satisfy my notorious sweet tooth, and that wasn’t chocolate chip cookie dough Halo Top ice cream had proven to be quite the challenge. And on a Friday evening, my brother and I were feeling quite the urge to have something delectable, and so, as per usual, we went on a quick run to Super Target to pick up a pint of my favorite flavored Halo Top. Seeing me leaving Target empty-handed with a frown spread across my face, my brother chirped up and told me about a small local shake shop in the vicinity that could hopefully satiate my craving. Without any hesitation, I drove us to the small shop tucked in between two shops in K. Plaza named Nutrition 402.

As we walked up to the building, the monotone color of the outside was quite misleading since the inside of Nutrition 402 was rather contemporary looking. The sleek, black wooden tables decorated with miniature plants and trees, the natural lighting, and the gray neutral coloring of the walls all fit into the Scandinavian architectural aesthetic.

A lady greeted us a few moments after we walked in, and began our order. My brother and I had never been there before, and the worker was happy to explain to us all the different types of protein shakes and teas to

choose from.

Starting off with the meal replacement protein shakes, she explained that there are twelve different categories of flavors with multiple different subcategories for each flavor. She then proceeded to explain that there are three levels to the teas: tea and aloe; tea, aloe, and liftoff; tea, aloe, liftoff, and collagen.

As a passionate lover of chocolate chip cookie dough, I decided to order the regular sized chocolate chip cookie dough shake, and my indecisive brother finally ordered a large tea of the week, blue raspberry tea.

The total came down to being $12.50.

The worker there was quick with fixing up our drinks compared to the average time it would take in a Starbucks. And when she finally presented the shake and tea to us, we were beaming with excitement.

The protein shake was filled to the rim and had chocolate chips sprinkled on top.

The tea was filled with ice and an ombre of yellow and green. The presentation of both the shake and tea was almost as superb as the taste

of them.

I fell in love with the chocolate chip cookie dough protein shake. I was somewhat expecting it to be chalkier because of previous experience with protein shakes, but the flavor and texture were perfect. The shake overall tasted exactly like the chocolate chip cookie dough Halo Top ice cream. The heartiness of the shake also came as quite the surprise to me since I had doubted that they’d actually serve as a meal replacement.

The blue raspberry tea was almost flawless. The ombre of the tea was made up of three different flavors: the bottom layer was raspberry tea, the second layer was the sweetened lemon tea, and the third layer was blue raspberry tea. Out of the three flavors, the raspberry tea was the most spectacular of the three.

The only downside of the tea was the ratio of ice to tea. The ice began to water down the powerful flavors of the tea as the minutes started to tick by. By the end, I couldn’t differentiate whether I was drinking water or tea.

I was overall surprised with my level of satisfaction of Nutrition 402 since it was better than expected.

There were a whopping 80 distinct flavored protein shakes and 68 teas, which is fantastic for people with particular tastes. It may have been a tad overpriced, but it was nothing short of de-

Softball takes on new head coach, coaching staff in hopes for a successful state run

years. He knew what to expect when accepting the head coaching position at MN. Unzicker only had about eight weeks to prepare the girls for the season, as they were given the okay batting average to start practicing on June 1.

While a short time to prepare, home runs softball is ready for the challenge.

“We have only had about o eight losses, and I’m vide stolen bases not sure how many wins, d by but the season is going great,” MaxPr e ps Wharton-Hunt said.

With 13 wins under their belts, the girls feel ready to make a state run with their brand new coach guiding the way.

As new strategies are being brought in, the girls have a total of 13 wins with 11 losses. With COVID-19, games and practices definitely look different for them, and despite the unique circumstances, nothing is going to stop him from making it their best season yet.

“We had to split into smaller groups so a lot of the younger girls weren’t able to be with the older girls and vice versa,” Unzicker said.

Although softball might not look the same as years past, Unzicker believes that nothing can stop the girls from being their best.

Senior Rylie Jones who transferred to MN two years ago thinks Unzicker fits in very well with the team dynamic.

“He brought in a lot of new things mentally,” Jones says. “We expect to be great, and we expect to win, and we know we can do better.”

Unzicker has had many years of experience because he coached club softball and his daughters have been involved in softball their whole lives. Softball has always been a part of Unzicker’s life.

“Transitioning from club softball to high school softball has definitely been an easy switch.” Unzicker said.

MADDIE COFFIN Staff Writer t’s out with the old and in with the new this year for softball as a new coach is on the rise. After the last 15 years of the same coach, Travis Unzicker is moving his way up the girls softball program this year , and he’s ready to not only make it to state, but to win the whole thing.

Unzicker has been coaching his daughters for about 15 years, and he has a great passion for the sport. With his daughters away at college, he wasn’t ready to let go of coaching just yet.

“The timing was perfect with Millard North, with Coach Swoboda retiring, I decided I would apply for that job and ended up getting it,” Unzicker said.

Senior Olivia Wharton-Hunt was very excited to meet Unzicker. He brought in an all new coaching staff, and even made sure they got all new equipment, uniforms, and techniques. As this is her last year, Wharton-Hunt is very excited to learn new playing tactics.

“What he always says is he loves to have fun,” Wharton-Hunt said. “He’s a really good coach, and all of the girls really like him.”

It’s unlike any basketball game you’ve ever witnessed.

Since then, the NBA has been faced with the decision regarding if and how they will continue the season. The NBA decided on June 4 after careful consultation with players, coaches, and team owners that they were going to resume their season.

The idea of the NBA Bubble was born. The figurative bubble is located at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida using the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Twenty—two of the 30 teams in the NBA were invited to come to the bubble to finish out the remainder of their season, the NBA playoffs.

W h e n players arrive at the bubble, they are quarantined from the outs i d e world and only able to interact with each other in an effort to negate a chance of the virus spreading. Teams are staying in three different hotels. When players and team personnel arrive at the bubble, they have to self isolate in their rooms for up to 48 hours until they have received two negative COVID-19 tests.

Overall, the NBA Bubble has been successful, allowing athletes to continue playing while staying safe and healthy. There have been no cases of COVID-19 while in the bubble, and other professional sports programs have been able to safely implement bubble-like systems as well.

“The NBA bubble has held. So has the NHL’s double bubble. The WNBA and MLS, [have ]no leaks. In this unprecedented landscape of sports in a pandemic world, one indisputable fact has emerged: bubbles work,” according to Fox Sports News.

This method of playing sports in the professional arena may be able to be implemented at the college level. Many college football teams have canceled their season because of the dangers of the virus and not being able to follow Center for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, like wearing masks and staying 6 feet apart.

The Pac 10 and University of Nebraska football has

postponed the fall football season until spring, but if college sports could find a way to replicate the NBA bubble, there would be no need to postpone.

Winter sports athletes like basketball players are already looking for ways to ensure their season continues..

“The idea of a bubble would be a really good idea, just to isolate all the teams who want to play against each other in that bubble and keep things safe, keep away from the public and keep us in our own area where we’re able to play the game the right way and safely,” Duke sophomore forward Wendell Moore, Jr said on Fox Sports News.

If colleges can find a way to implement the bubble in their programs, players have the opportunity to continue their careers safely.

It is true that creating a bubble at the college level is a hefty task, however if it can be accomplished, it means the athletes will be able to play their sport in safety this season and athletic programs can stay financially afloat.

The past few months athletes have been wondering if they will get a final chance to play the game they love.

Ninetyeight % of college football players don’t go on to play professional sports.

For the majority of college football players, this season is their last chance to play at a competitive level. They recognize that sports are not the most important thing in other people’s minds,, but it’s one of the most important to them.

Whatever the methods being used, athletes are willing to give it a chance in the hope that they will be able to play their sport this year. Let’s give athletes an opportunity to compete, a chance to play the sport they love. One day athletes won’t be able to play anymore, all they will have is the memories of the time they were able to. Let’s not let a pandemic take away the memories.

If you could be change anything about this season, what would it be?

I would probably change the distancing, [and] the 2020 COVID rules. I would prefer we didn’t have the whole thing, but I understand why we [do].
