Main Career Center shoots photos, boosts Gators’ professional profiles

On Feb. 20, the UHD Main Career Center hosted its frequent LinkedIn events to encourage students to get their headshots taken and “Link with LinkedIn.” The purpose of this event is to get advice on their LinkedIn profile and the perfect capture of their professional image.

Several career coaches and counselors gathered to help students get their pictures taken and get their LinkedIn profiles commenced or reviewed.

Program Assistant for the Career Center Moses Monge organized this event for students looking for jobs.

“While I was studying, I needed a lot of help looking for jobs and was extremely unhappy with my previous position,” said Monge. “I came here looking to be better at being in interviews [and] working on resumes to find other job opportunities

Since organizing “Link with LinkedIn” every semester, students shared some thoughts with the program manager about their experiences.

While many students excelled in interviews, obtained jobs, and developed connections through their new and improved LinkedIn profiles, a few returned with underwhelming views of their picture.

“We just always encourage them to come back [and reassure them by] showing each picture and saying ‘Are you satisfied with the picture? Do you like it?’” said Monge. “I feel like we do [receive positive feedback], and I am an example of it.”

Julia Talamantes, a UHD student majoring in English, visited the event to get her headshot taken.

“I’m still a freshman, but this will help me build me up to the career field,” said Talamantes. “I don’t have a LinkedIn profile, but after today, I will start one.”

Students like Talamantes were not required to have a LinkedIn profile set up already to attend, but they can get their pictures taken just to have a profile picture ready. Talamantes gained an informational and helpful experience from this event and encouraged all her colleagues to participate and gather more resources from the UHD Main Career Center.
