The Dillard family was honored to be the guests of Gov. Bill Lee at the Tennessee State Capitol July 5th when he signed Dillard’s Law. Although we wish our meeting had occurred under different circumstances, we’re very thankful to all state lawmakers who refined and helped to pass this important piece of legislation including State Sen. Adam Lowe, State Rep. Mark Cochran, State Rep. Kevin Raper and the Governor. Words can’t really express how much we appreciate your support and kindness. A special thank you to Raelyn Stewart from Senator Lowe’s office for taking good care of us.

Dillard’s Law provides for the surviving parent or guardian of a child whose parent was a victim of vehicular homicide to convert a restitution order for child maintenance payments to a civil judgment at any time rather than following the conclusion of the defendant’s sentence. Our hope and prayer is this law will make people reconsider poor driving choices which will save other families from experienc the unimaginable pain felt by the Dillards and the Stewarts.
