A source with OU Medical Center confirmed that a missionary who traveled to Haiti tested positive for Zika, making her the first confirmed case in Oklahoma. Lauren Steverson developed a rash that covered most of her body, ran a fever and had a headache. She compared the symptoms with those that pertain to the flu. Because Steverson is not pregnant or planning to have children anytime soon, she was not very concerned. “It’s unlikely that Zika virus, particularly spread by mosquitoes, is going to become a major problem in the United States,” Dr. Robert Welliver, an Oklahoma City infectious disease specialist, said regarding the U.S.’s protections against mosquito-borne viruses in a news conference Feb. 8.

Grammy 2016 nominations and performer lists released The list of 2016 Grammy Awards performers has been set and nominees have been released. Among those anticipated to perform are Adele, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, James Bay, Ellie Goulding and Carrie Underwood. The big four Grammy contenders turned out to be Taylor Swift with seven nominations, including Best Music Video, Record of the Year and Album of the Year; The Weeknd with seven nominations including Album of the Year, Best R&B Song and Best Song Written for Visual Media; Florence + the Machine with four nominations and Kendrick Lamar with 11 nominations. The Grammys will air at 7 p.m. Feb. 15 on CBS.

Iowa vs. New Hampshire: Results are in Sanders, Trump win big in New Hampshire after losses in Iowa a week prior

by Kelsey Morgan Editor-in-Chief Bernie Sanders defeated Hillary Clinton substantially and John Kasich came in second following Donald Trump in the New Hampshire primary Feb. 9. Sanders led Clinton 60-38 percent in the Democratic race in New Hampshire following Sanders’ razor-thin loss in the Iowa Caucus Feb. 1. Clinton was officially announced the winner of the Democratic race in the Iowa Caucus after controversy surrounded the incredibly close results between the two candidates. During final speeches, Sanders claimed the two were in a virtual tie.

The Iowa Democratic Party said she barely made the win and votes were so close that some divisions were decided by the flip of a coin. Despite the win, Clinton might see a dip in numbers in the future. “Given that [Sanders polled] significantly higher than Clinton in New Hampshire, it could be a rough start to the 2016 race for Clinton,” said Professor of Political Science James Davenport. “What we don’t know is if Sanders will be able to use the success in Iowa and his victory in New Hampshire to really make a strong run for the Democratic nomination.” On the Republican side, Trump won by
