William (Bill) Hammond Sr. William (Bill) Hammond Sr.

HOWARD, NY: Willard (Bill) R. Hammond Sr., age 85, passed away June 22, 2023 with family beside him. He was born August 15, 1937. He worked for over 30 years at Great Western Winery of Hammondsport. His hobbies were making and selling maple syrup, gardening, fruit trees and mowing his very large yard.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Walton) Hammond of 64 years, they shared the same birth date and they were married on that day; his son Willard (Billy) R. Hammond Jr.; daughters, Susan Smith and Molly (Karl) Clymo, eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, brother Clair (Gail) Hammond, nephew Ed Hammond, several step grandchildren and his step sister Betty Gilbert.

A Celebration of his life will be held at the Howard Community Building on July 20, 2023 at 5:00PM. Condolences may be made at www.fagansfuneralhome.com

The Town of Thurston will hold a public hearing on July 19, 2023 at 6:30PM at the Thurston Town Hall (7578 County Route 333, Campbell, NY 14821) for the purpose of hearing public comments on the Town of Thurston’s community development needs, and to to discuss the possible submission of one or more Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) applications for the 2023 program year. The CDBG program is administered by the New York State Office of Community Renewal (OCR), and will make available to eligible governments approximately $20 million for the 2023 program year for housing, economic development, public facilities, public infrastructure, and planning activities, with the principal purpose of benefiting low/moderate income persons. The Town of Thurston is applying for $25,000 in CDBG Community Planning funds to conduct a comprehensive Housing Needs Assessment as a first step towards a future town-wide housing rehabilitation program. The hearing will provide further information about the CDBG program and will allow for citizen participation in the development of any proposed grant applications and/or provide technical assistance to develop alternate proposals. Comments on the CDBG program or proposed project(s) will be received at this time. The hearing is being conducted pursuant to Section 570.486, Subpart I of the CFR and in compliance with the requirements of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended.
