BRADFORD, NY: Bill

Bowdoin, a ectionately known as "Wild Bill", was a man of adventurous spirit and charismatic presence.

Born on July 4, 1950, in Penn Yan, NY, he went home to meet his Lord and Savior on July 11, 2023, just days a er celebrating his 73rd birthday surrounded by his family. He was provided with great support by his community and outstanding compassionate care by his wife, Joyce, close friend, Larry Dykes, and the CareFirst Hospice Team.

Bill is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joyce Bowdoin (Stone); daughters, Becky (Matthew) Maners, Mary (Jan-Harm) Wolters, Anne (Sean) Reilley, and Esther (David) Chilson; along with his seven grandchildren: Elaina and Levi Maners, Josiah Wolters, Celia Reilley, and Nathaniel, Talia and ane Chilson. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Jo Bowdoin and Emma Sue (Michael) Place. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wade and Celia Bowdoin.

A man of faith and an ambitious go-getter, Bill's life was a testament to his loyalty to God, family, and the community he loved. He lived his life according to Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

A er graduating from Bradford Central School in 1968, Bill's deep faith led him to Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, where he studied evangelism. As a student, Bill developed and led an inner-city ministry program, later using these experiences to author three full-length plays. Bill's adventurous spirit took him across the country, sharing the gospel through church meetings, prison, and street ministries. A er marrying Joyce Stone, the love of his life, in 1974, they continued traveling ministries for a year before settling in Baldwinsville, NY. e call of home was strong, and in 1980, they returned to Bill's hometown, Bradford, NY, to raise their children. Here, Bill continued his church ministry, served as a Deacon at the Bradford Baptist Church, and worked construction while simultaneously operating a fur trade business until his retirement. He was a man who loved the outdoors, including hiking, shing, hunting, trapping, and enjoying the view of the lakes from his beloved land. Bill was known for his intriguing life stories, and he always had a prank to play or a joke to tell. Bill's bold spirit, charisma, laughter and loyalty will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Bradford Baptist Church, 2788 Yawger Hill Rd., Bradford, NY, 14815 on Sunday, July 30, 2023 with calling hours from 2PM-3PM and a service to follow at 3PM; Pastor Chris Durham and Larry Dykes will be o ciating. ere will be a private family burial at the convenience of the family at the Tyrone Cemetery. PENN YAN, NY: Harry Kaufman Gri n, age 90, passed away in peace at home on July 11, 2023.

e family received friends at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main Street, Penn Yan on Friday, July 21st from 6PM - 8PM. A funeral mass was held Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Penn Yan; followed by burial and military honors at St. Michael’s Cemetery. He was born at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital on August 31, 1932 to Wallace and Jane (Kaufman) Gri n in Penn Yan NY. He attended Penn Yan Central School and was on the Academy Track Team. Harry won several rst-place awards which assisted the team in winning several Track Meets. In 1949 Harry was awarded his letter for his accomplishments while on the track team, in 2020 the team was inducted into the Penn Yan Academy Hall of Fame. He graduated Penn Yan Academy and joined the US Air Force where he served 4 years as a Personnel Clerk. While in the service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. On October 15, 1953 he married Genevieve Tripole.

A er returning home from the Air Force Harry worked for NYSEG where he was a Meter Reader/ collections, and later included checking meters to ensure they worked properly. He raised sheep, goats and rabbits for many years on his small farm just outside of town. He supported his boys participating in 4-H. Harry was very active in his community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as Grand Knight. He was a devoted member of Our Lady of the Lakes (St Michaels Catholic Church).

In 1979 he opened his own business with his sons, Harry K Gri n and Son, where he started producing bagged Ice and selling his own animal feed. He had a grinder truck where his son would go to local farms and grind their grain into feed. As more and more feed stores came into the area, he was forced to stop grinding customer grains and started selling their feed out of their warehouse. Harry worked at the business right up until his health declined and he could no longer make it to the o ce. Even when he could not make it to the o ce he was still in charge of what went on. When his warehouse burned, he immediately talked of rebuilding, so he could pass it down. It is operating under limitations but feed and limited ice are still available.

Harry was an avid donator to many worthy charities. He was placed on the VFW Honor Roll of Contributors for having given his wholehearted support to the V.F.W.’s worthy programs for Rehabilitation of Disabled Veterans and aid to veteran’s widows and orphans. Harry is predeceased by his father Wallace and step-mother Gladys Gri n. He is survived by his sister Francis Fox; sons Michael ( Linda) Gri n, Mark (Mariann) Gri n, and Greg (Kathy Hammond) Gri n; grandchildren Kimberly, Brittany, Delma, Andrew, Mark Jr, Mathew; and several great-grandchildren.

BATH, NY: A cloud passed by brie y, then a ray of sunshine poured down from God on our mother. Mom le us peacefully in her sleep, July 12th, 2023 to be reunited with her husband Lyle and her Calton Family.

Christine Dorothy "Dot" Graves (Calton) was born April 21st, 1934 in Tennessee. She was proud of her Southern heritage. e Calton family relocated to Bradford, NY. She graduated from Bradford Central School in 1952. She worked for Westinghouse/Phillips Lighting, retiring a er 37 years. She was a member of the Bath American Legion Post 173 for 47 years.

Christine was predeceased by her loving husband Lyle; her parents Hersel and Elizabeth (Duncan) Calton; her brothers Paul, Herman and Gerald Calton; and her sister and best friend Freeda Johnson. She also lost her son-in-law Scott Clymo and great granddaughter Mikalah Price. She is survived by her daughters Sherry Ricuito (her husband John), Terry Clymo, and her son Randy (his wife Teresa). She delighted in her grandchildren Amber, Ryan, Kerry, Samantha, Jessica, Randy II, and Veronica. She was so proud of her great-grandchildren Haylee, Gavin, Alex, Mattison, Madilyn, Brielle, Scarlett, Mikaela, Abigail, Drake, Lillian and Catherine. Her eyes sparkled when all visited. At her wishes, there will be no service. e family is planning a "Celebration of Life" at a later date.

'Tom' W. Watkins, age 67 of Campbell, NY passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born on September 11, 1955 in Corning, NY, he was the son of the late Morrell, Jr. and Patricia (Frawley) Watkins. Tom graduated with high honors from Campbell Central School and received his certi cation in Machine Trades from Coopers Plains BOCES. He married Judy Dickerson on May 12, 1979. He followed in his father, Morrell's steps by working as a machinist for Siemens Energy, previously Dresser-Rand of Painted Post for 46 years. He also worked alongside his uncles: Eldred and Duane Watkins and eodore Frawley; and brother, Randy Watkins. His son, John, is now following in his father's steps. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Judy Watkins of Campbell, NY; children: Julia (Steven) Taylor of Hornby, NY, John (Carrigan Snyder) Watkins of Campbell, NY; grandchildren: DaisyMay, Brett, Carter, Owen; great grandson, Wilder; siblings: Sherry (Ira) Coots of Campbell, NY, Randy (Deborah) Watkins of Tyrone, NY; sisters-in-law: Sharon Ta of Bakers eld, CA, Katherine Snyder of Bath, NY; brother-in-law, Charles 'C.J.'
