HAMMONDSPORT, NY:

It is with a profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce that Douglas “Doug” O’Brochta, 84, of Hammondsport, passed away Saturday, June 10th, 2023.

Doug was born in Hammondsport, New York and graduated from Hammondsport Central School. Playing soccer, basketball, and running track, Doug never lost his love for sports. In fact, trying to talk to him during March Madness was never really an option. Following high school, Doug joined the U.S. Navy and spent most of his time aboard the U.S.S. Des Moines working as a Dental Technician. Doug maintained a career and retired from Taylor Wine Company a er serving in the Navy. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Walter O’Brochta and Nina Slater, and by his sisters, Jane and Carol.

Doug is survived by his sister JoAnn; his daughters Melissa (Adam) King and Michele (Jon) Beckman; his son Todd (Carrie) O’Brochta; his grandkids Mitchell (Christina) O’Brochta, Madilyn Beckman, James (Elizabeth) Beckman, Zachary O’Brochta, Nathan O’Brochta, Darbi King and Maryn King; his great grandkids Oliver, Everly, and Courtlynn; many cousins , nephews, and friends as close as family.

To Honor this man and sum up his character in a few short paragraphs is absolutely impossible. So much of Doug’s time was spent shing on Keuka Lake with family and friends. Oh, the stories the lake could tell! He was an avid hunter and never missed a season until his later years. Doug loved being outside and always found a way to stay busy. He had an immense love for his two Labradors, Shiloh and Nestle and never missed a day of walking them through the elds, woods, and Taylor Park. His love for his family and friends was beyond words. Doug had a zeal for life. He loved socializing and laughter. His humor was like no other. ere was no being in a bad mood around this incredible man. Known for his genuine kindness and loyalty, Doug will continue to live on in the hearts of those who enjoyed life with him through unforgettable memories. He truly loved each of you and if you knew him, you felt it.

A celebration of life will be announced in the Shopper as well as on Facebook soon.

BATH, NEW YORK: Margaret Eleanor “Ele” (Jamison) Drain, 85, of Bath, N.Y. passed away on June 12, 2023, at home, surrounded by family.

Ele was born on November 22, 1937, to Howard and Harriet Jamison in White Plains, N.Y. She graduated from Livonia High School in 1955 and went on to study nursing at St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Rochester, N.Y.

Her husband, Dick, was her absolute soulmate. A er dating through high school and college, they were married on August 1, 1959. ey moved to Bath where she began working as an RN at the VA Center. When their rst child was born, she took on a new career as a stay at home mom. Years later, she returned to nursing at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital in Bath, o en taking holiday shi s so colleagues with young children could have time with their families. She served a one-year term as a nurse at the Vernon E. Wightman Primary School in Bath and a er semi-retiring, worked for Twin Tiers Eyecare. roughout her career, she was a volunteer for the Bath Ambulance Corp and the American Red Cross.

Ele’s family and friends were always impressed with her incredible green thumb. She could rescue a withering plant to full vitality, resurrect geraniums from year to year and was always willing to share the bounty of her vegetable gardens. She was known for many delectable treats, including her strawberry jam, homemade pickles, and the best pie crust around. She found great joy in caring for others, especially her grandchildren, who knew there were specials rules at Nana and Grampa’s house.

Ele was a dedicted and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by three children, Richard L. (Deborah) Drain Jr. of Hammondsport, Jennifer (Randy Carlberg) Drain of Bath, and Amy (Erik) Weber of Livonia; cherished grandchildren, Cameron and Colin Drain, Audrey and Adrienne Weber and Emmaleigh Carlberg; her brother, Howard (Ellen) Jamison, her sister, Patricia Jamison, many nieces and nephews, dear friends, and her incredibly dedicated caretakers, Natasha, Jasmine, Gayle, Tina, Cheryl, and Jen.

Ele and her beloved husband, Dick, celebrated 63 years of marriages before his death on September 10, 2022. ey are now reunited joyfully, together for eternity. Ele was also preceded in death by her parents, her grandson, Austin Weber, and her sister, Elaine ompson.

Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2023, at Bond-Davis Funeral Home, 107 East Steuben Street, Bath, N.Y. Ele’s life will be celebrated at a memorial service at 11 a.m. July 8, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 32 East Morris Street, Bath N.Y. A reception will follow at the Bath Country Club, 330 May Street. Private burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Geneva Street, Bath, at a later date.

Flowers will be provided by the family. In lieu of owers, please consider adopting a houseplant or planting something in your garden to remember Ele by. Bathl, NY: Peter James Koseba (Jim), 89 of Bath, NY died on June 20, 2023 at the Bath VA Medical Center.

Jim was born in South Bradford, NY to parents, Peter & Helen Koseba on April 28, 1934. He graduated from Bradford Central School in 1952. A er graduating high school, he joined the USMC, serving during the Korean war. A er active service, he served in the Reserves and then the National Guard. A er working for many years, Pete/Jim found a home at Philips Lighting where he worked, and subsequently retired, as a machinist for over twenty- ve years.

Jimmy enjoyed puttering in his workshop, being in nature, spending time with his family, and joking with those he cared about...

He is survived by son Don (Mel) Koseba, daughters Cheryl (Mike) Stephenson, Sandi (Randy) Wilcox, grandchildren Candice Oliver, Heather Hammond, Seth Chitty, Jennifer Clark, Whitney Chitty, Emily Stephenson, Kaleb Chitty, Hannah Stephenson, their spouses/signi cant others and many great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley Mulliken Koseba, his sister Pat Naylor, and granddaughter Nicole Chitty.

Amidon Jr., age 69, of Bath, NY died Sunday, June 18, 2023 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 14, 1954 in Hornell, NY, the son of Ward D. and Wilda (Newell) Amidon. Mr. Amidon was a meat cutter and owned and operated the slaughter house, Kanona Custom Meats in Kanona, NY. roughout his life Ward owned and operated several businesses. He operated a farm alongside his father as well as being a Milk hauler and long distance truck driver.

In his past, Ward was an avid race car driver and enjoyed racing at the Woodhull Raceway. He was also a devoted NASCAR fan.

He is survived by his wife Milta (Decker) Amidon of Bath, NY; two daughters Tammy Fresco of Knoxville, PA and Stacy (R.J.) Bacon of Penn Yan, NY, his granddaughter Jade Fresco and his mother Wilda Amidon. Mr. Amidon was predeceased by his father Ward D. Amidon Sr. and son-in-law, Joe Fresco.

Ward's family would also like to thank Dustin Buck and Dustin's family for their ongoing support during this di cult time.
