BATH, NEW YORK:

Bill Hudson, 87, of Bath, NY passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on ursday, March 16, 2023. He was born in Camillus, NY on November 8, 1935 to Walter Wiegand Hudson and Laura Helene (Scott) Hudson.

Joanne, the love of his life, and Bill enjoyed more than 66 years of marriage together. ey shared an exceptionally close bond. In addition to his beloved wife, Bill is survived by his four sons: Walter (Amy) of Culpeper, VA; Russell (Lynn) of San Jose, CA; Steven of Gaithersburg, MD; Philip (Gloria) of Bath, NY. Bill is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, his brother Earl (Barb) Hudson, and sisters-in-law Ardy Lake, Lola (Rowland) Stanard, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Paul, and daughter-in-law Martha.

Bill attended Cornell University where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Husbandry in 1957 and a Master’s degree in Agriculture in 1976.

As a young man, Bill worked with his father on their family farm near Syracuse. He and his young family moved to Bath in 1969 to work as a county agent for Cornell Cooperative Extension where he traveled Steuben County extensively visiting area farms and providing consultation to farmers on best practices.

In 1984, Bill and Joanne launched a business in their home, Finger Lakes Farm Services, specializing in farm and small business accounting and tax preparation. Many clients bene ted from Bill’s attention to detail and knowledge of tax code, but more importantly, he treated them as friends. JAMES D. BARRETT

1004 Lake Street, Elmira, New York 14901

BATH, NY: Edward J. Palmer Sr passed away Tuesday evening, March 14, 2023, at home with his family and furry friends standing by. Ed was born on September 18, 1937, at home on Harrisburg Hollow, Bath, NY to Clarence and Mary Brewer Palmer. He joined a family of two sisters, two brothers, and then a er him two more brothers. ey were elma, Pauline, Laverne. Clayton, Earl, and Kenneth. All have predeceased him. He is survived by many of his nieces and nephews who he was very fond of.

Ed grew up on Harrisburg Hollow and attended the one room schoolhouse on Robbins Road until he went to the Haverling High School where he quit at 8th grade to work on the farm with his family. Before he le school, he was fortunate enough to be noticed by a young girl who used the excuse of sharpening her pencil multiple times a day to gain his attention. He sat in the front by the pencil sharpener and the teacher. ( ose of you who know Ed well, know why he was under the watchful eye of the teacher.) at girl was Nancy Ritter and a er a year’s long courtship of weekly silent car rides and multiple banana splits, they married on September 27, 1958, shortly a er Nancy graduated from High School. And they stayed married through the good and the bad, in sickness and in health till death did they part at 64 and a half years of marriage. In heart, Ed will never leave Nancy.

Ed was a hardworking man and put in 42 years at the W.W. Babcock Ladder Factory. During those years, he built the family home from nding old barns, sheds, or chicken coops to salvage lumber from. He did most of the work himself and was always proud of the house he built. Ed was also a “hobby farmer”. Over the years there were many beef cattle, horses, pigs, rabbits, dogs and what’s a farm without cats? He did chores twice a day, hayed his own elds as well as several of the neighbors’; kept up his own equipment, o en ‘rigging it’ to make it work. He plowed his elds and many other gardens in the area. He hunted, he bowled, he partied, he did car shows, he joked, and he loved in his own way.

Ed and Nancy had two children, Edward J Palmer Jr and Sis (Irene) Conrad who learned many things from their Dad. Ed may have not been ‘Book educated”, but he knew so many more things that could not be learned from books. He taught his kids that you can play, but you have to work rst; you can borrow, but you have to pay back: when you work with someone, you learn to anticipate the next step; if he asked for a wrench, you better be ready with a screw driver; if he was hammering, you better have a nail ready; if you were driving the tractor in the hay eld, he wanted you to know how to use the clutch ( don’t pop it out when going down a hill.) ese lessons have been and continue to be of great use in his kids’ lives.

A er retiring, Ed and Nancy did some cruising and for a few years enjoyed wintering in Florida where they enjoyed the beach with their son, or Arizona where they explored the desert and made new friends. ey enjoyed those times together but enjoyed them even more when taking their grandsons along on some of their excursions. Ed was very proud of his grandsons, John E Conrad Jr and Joseph R Conrad (Crystal). He taught them many life lessons and the value of hard work; supported them in all their endeavors (even if he didn’t always understand them) and was a very important mainstay in their lives.

He was also blessed with a couple of bonus granddaughters, Jilian Conrad Padaoan and Heather Pospiech.

His grandkids have given him multiple great grandchildren and bonus grandchildren. ey all loved and enjoyed their Pa.

Ed married into the Ritter Family where he gained many more brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins from all across the country. He was a big, valuable part of the Ritter Clan. He also had many special friends, young and old, who meant the world to him. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him, loved him, were teased by him, joked by him, or told to go play in the middle of the road by him.

A huge thank you goes out to all the family and friends who have supported us over the last few months. Whether it was a visit, a phone call, a card, a message, or the many prayers – all e orts were so much appreciated. ank you to Karen from Care

First for her friendship and compassionate care.

Ed didn’t want any formal services. A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday March 25, 2023, at the Hammondsport Fire Hall from 1-3PM with the family remembering and sharing the life of this amazing man.

Online condolences or remembrances of Ed are welcome on the Facebook page of Bond-Davis Funeral Home.
